Dorothy Maxine Kirsch

Dorothy Maxine Kirsch, 95, of North Platte, passed away August 20, 2014 at Linden Court. She was born May 27, 1919 at Anselmo, NE to Lawrence James and Josephine Marie (Snyder) Foran. She grew up north east of Arnold on a farm and attended school at Pleasant Hill. She was united in marriage to John A. Kirsch on May 12, 1941 at Ord, NE. John passed away December 4, 1997. They lived most of their married life in North Platte and three years in Hawthorne, CA. Maxine enjoyed gardening and flowers. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She is survived by her grandchildren, Sara J. (Carl) deSoto and Randy L. Kirsch; two great grandsons, Llywellyn and Aiden deSoto; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; a son, Larry; sisters, Frances and Mary; brothers, Glenn, Raymond, Lyle and Bill. Lucy Mae Alegria, 77, of North Platte, NE, passed away Monday, August 18, 2014, at Great Plains Health in North Platte.

Lucy was born June 3, 1937, to Glenford C. and Margaret Murphy Haitz in Syracuse, NY. She was raised by the nuns in a Catholic orphanage in Naples, NY and attended school at Naples Central. Lucy worked for Dudley Poultry and tied grapes for the Widmer Wine Company before marrying Ralph Frasca. To this union three children were born.

Lucy later left New York and traveled throughout the Western states. She met Arthur ‘Art’ Alegria in North Platte and they were married on January 17, 1989. They lived in North Platte and lovingly shared 23 blessed years together before Art passed away in 2012.

Lucy was an avid reader and artist. When Lucy was younger she played the accordian. In later years she was an avid reader and artist.
Lucy also liked to go fishing and watch the trains and loved animals especially cats and horses.

Survivors include her children, Jean Hosler, of Newark, NY and Cheryl (David) Bloom, of Canandaiqua, NY and Dale (Robyn) Frasca, of Bloomfield, NY; her stepchildren, Eva (Paul) Monzon, of Lincoln, NE, Gloria (Michael) Brannon, of Winchester, VA, Ramona Delgado (Loren Biltoft), of Hoxie, KS, Elizabeth Parkin, of Salt Lake City, UT, Sunday (Phyllis) Alegria, of Culbertson, NE, Michael (Teresa) Alegria, of Northglenn, CO and Sammy Alegria (Becky Negley), of Sioux Falls, SD; stepdaughter-in-law, Claudine Alegria, of Glendale, CA; two sisters, Joan (Joseph) Pullano, of Syracuse, NY and Theresa (Stanley) Przytula, of Cicero, NY; six grandchildren, Christopher and Terry Hosler, Carolyn Schurr and Mary, Jamie and Kristen Moran; two great-grandchildren, Ryan Schurr and Kinley Moran; 17 step grandchildren; 14 step great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other family.

Along with her husband, Art, Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Glenford and Margaret Haitz; a brother, Frances; two sisters, Glenna Clark and Ethel Pople; and her stepchildren, Mary Ann Alegria and Arthur James ‘Jimmy’ Alegria.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Father Jim Golka officiating. Cremation will follow. Visitation will be Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Memorials for Lucy can be made to the Good Fellows Shoe Fund. William “Bill” Wamsley

William “Bill” Wamsley, 58, of North Platte, passed away August 16, 2014 at home. He was born December 10, 1955 to Gene and Joyce (Godwin) Wamsley at Sidney, NE. He graduated from Sutherland High School with the class of 1974. Bill hired out for the Union Pacific Railroad in 1975. He was involved in an auto accident in 1981 and had been battling cancer for the last 2 and half years. Bill was a member of the Moose Lodge. He was loved by many friends. Hunting and fishing were his passions. He is survived by his sister, Teresa “Terri” Wamsley of North Platte; half-brother, Tom Keefer of North of North Platte; cousins, Cynthia (Bill) Allgood, David (Cindy) Einspahr and Michelle (Jack) Blomstedt all of Sutherland; and a special friend, Chrystele Botsford. He was preceded in death by his parents; and Snowball. The family would like to thank all the wonderful home health nurses that cared for Bill. Larry Lee Allen, 71, of North Platte, passed away August 15, 2014 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He was born February 5, 1943 to Melvin and Lucille (Dethlefsen) Allen at Chamberlain, S.D. Larry graduated from Sunol High School in 1961. He was united in marriage to Jane Ann Fisher on Dec. 14, 1974 at Lake Tahoe, NV. Larry was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad as an engineer on the 3rd District, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Larry enjoyed woodworking, cooking, chasing and playing with his grandchildren and great nieces. He is survived by his wife, Jane Ann, of North Platte; his son, Phil (Jessica) Allen of Lincoln; a brother, Roger Mashek of Arkansas; a sister, Sandy Reichman of Lodgepole, NE; grandchildren, Baleigh and Quincy; mother-in-law, Evelyn Fisher of Fremont, CA; and other relatives. Franklin Dean McHarness

Franklin Dean McHarness, 81, of Missouri, formerly of North Platte, NE, died Saturday, August 16, 2014, at the Benton House of Lee’s Summit, MO.

Frank was born March 21, 1933, to Clarence and Sylvia Knox McHarness in Hayes Center, NE. He grew up in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School. In 1953 Frank joined the U.S. Army and served until 1955. Following his discharge he returned to North Platte and worked for Bill Willson Photography.

On May 18, 1958, Frank married Marjorie Ann ‘Marge’ Pearson in Shickley, NE and they moved to North Platte where they made their home. Frank worked as a photographer before owning his own studio, Mac Studio. He retired from his business in 1998 then moved to Lee’s Summit in 2012. Frank was active in his assisted living residence, participating in plays and taking pictures. Though photography was his business, it was also his hobby.

Frank was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, P.R. Halligan Post #163 American Legion and Diamond ‘K’ Kiwanis.

Survivors include his daughter, Julie (Kevin) Crookshank, of Lee’s Summit; two granddaughters, Katie (Jeremy) Cunningham and Anne Crookshank; two great-grandchildren, Eli and Ainsley Cunningham; his sister, Lois Cohn, of Hayes, KS; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Marge; a daughter, Laurie McHarness; his parents, Clarence and Sylvia; a sister; and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Messiah Lutheran Church with Pastor Tim Eighmy officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Robert L. Thomsen

Robert-ThomsenRobert L. Thomsen, 78, of North Platte passed away August 12, 2014 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Bob was born on February 23, 1936 on East 10th Street in North Platte. He was the 4th of 7 children born to Arnold and Ruby (Liljigren) Thomsen. He grew up in North Platte and moved with his family to the farm south of North Platte. After graduating from North Platte High School in 1954, he joined the Navy. He met and married his wife Marion (Davis) in Cranston, RI in 1957. He farmed and had a dairy from 1958-1997 and retired at that time, moving back to North Platte.

Bob will always be remembered for all the good humor and whoopies he left behind. He loved traveling in the motor home and playing horseshoes all over the country. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Marion of North Platte; children, Michael (Justine) Thomsen of North Platte, Randall (Michelle) Thomsen of Colorado Springs, CO, Robert “Gary” Thomsen of North Platte, Steven (Drae) Thomsen of Nampa, ID, and Barbara (Steve) Vance of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Jean Bonnin of Andover, MN; sister-in-law, Julaine Thomsen of North Platte; and brothers-in-law, Jay Van Winkle of Tucson, AZ and Leonard Logg of WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marty and Charles; and sisters, Mary Fields, Rosie Van Winkle, and Janice Logg.

Betty Jane Herron

Betty Jane Herron, age 88 formerly of North Platte, left this life to be with her beloved husband Eugene on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the Sutherland Care Center.
Betty was born on August 31, 1925 in Gothenburg, NE to Harry O. and Zelpha P. (Corder) Woodward. She attended school in Gothenburg until moving to North Platte at the age of 13. She graduated from North Platte High School in 1945 and then married Eugene F. Herron on August 23 1945 in Atwood, KS The couple made their home in North Platte where she was a member of the Parkview Church of the Nazarene, the UP Oldtimer’s Club and Platte Valley Coin Club. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her mornings with all the grandkids helping her make pancakes. Betty and Gene spent a lot of time taking their kids and then their grandkids camping, fishing and fossil hunting.
Betty is survived by 3 daughters, Debra (Mike) Wagner of Longmont, CO, Pamela Hill (Joe Twidwell) of North Platte, and Linda (Charles) Eacker of North Platte; 11 grandchildren, Alicia (Dan) Terrill, Amanda (Ken) Allen, Angela (Aaron Rademacher) Wagner, Audra (Ryan) Clark all of Colorado, Dan (Kim) Hill and Jason (Erin) Hill of Kearney, NE, Nicholas (Star Lane) Thalken of North Platte, April Thalken and Adam Thalken of Lincoln, Ne, Sara (Taylor) Weatherly of North Platte, and Haley Eacker of New Mexico; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law Aris Woodward of Arvada, CO and Patricia Ames of Washington; and several nieces, nephews and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Eugene; grandson Kevin Thalken; brothers Mervin, Harold, Robert, Dale, Walter, Milton, Richard and Don Woodward; sisters Verna and Marcella Woodward and Norma Morrison.

Henrietta “Hank” Maria (Brand) Donnelly

Henrietta “Hank” Maria (Brand) Donnelly, 98, of North Platte, NE passed away Aug. 8, 2014 at Linden Court.
She was born May 5, 1916 at Dixon, S.D. to Carl and Henrietta (Harms) Brand. Henrietta attended school in and around Silver Creek, NE and graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1934. She attended the School of Commerce in North Platte, and then worked as the deputy register of deeds for Lincoln County for eight years. She also worked for Montgomery Wards and Firestone stores. She was employed by A. Tull Accounting and Auditing and was a cook at Joe’s Supper Club, all in North Platte, NE. Henrietta cooked and managed the Husky Truck Stop in Hershey, NE and while doing that was also the Justice of Peace in Hershey, NE.
She married Robert Maurice Donnelly, July 7, 1944, at Smith Center, KS. They were married 56 years before Roberts’ death on December 4, 2000. They had four children, Larry Brand, Marvin, Maurice and Jean Donnelly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step father, Thomas Smith; four brothers; four sisters and their spouses; her husband, Robert; a son, Maurice; two daughters-in-law, Dorothy Brand and Bridget Donnelly; a great grandson, Bobbie Brand; and a step grandson, Thomas Satterfield.
Henrietta was an active member of the Salvation Army. She was a Sunday School teacher for 34 years and Sunbeam leader for 25 years. She held the position of Assistant and Home League Secretary and was a member of the League of Mercy for 25 years. She also worked in the church office and the Salvation Army Thrift Store. Henrietta spent many hours volunteering for Salvation Army as a bell ringer at Christmas time and helped with the yearly Home League bazaar when she made her famous baked goods, candy and her embroidered tea towels. Henrietta retired from active duty at the Salvation Army in 1986. She was still volunteering right before moving to Linden Court in 2011.
Survivors include her children, Larry Brand of Hickory Ridge, AR, Marvin Donnelly of Hershey and Jean (Gene) Hardy of North Platte; sister-in-law, Herda Brand of Wisner, NE; grandchildren, James Brand of San Diego, CA, Stephen Brand, Rene Nelson both of Clarksville, TN, Brian (Joyce) Brand of Longmont, CO, Kari Donnelly of Colorado Springs, CO, Maurice Donnelly, Jr. of San Antonio, TX, Paul (Sarah) Anderson of Morse Bluff, NE, Travis (Pam) Anderson of North Platte, Nebraska; several great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and their families.

Millie Grosh

The loving and generous spirit of Millie Grosh, a long –term resident of North Platte, NE and later of Sun City West, AZ, was released to the heavens on July 30th, 2014. She made her passage at her home in Sun City West, AZ, surrounded by loving family.
Millie was born on May 30th 1927 to Cora McNeel Yates and Ben Yates in Lexington, NE. Later the family moved to a farm in North Platte, NE and in 1944 she graduated from North Platte High School. On June 6th 1955 she married Roger Grosh; they opened the Intercontinental Bus Depot Café and proceeded to become prominent restaurateurs and business people in town. They owned and managed many restaurants in town, including Tucker’s Restaurant and Lounge and Roger’s Fine Foods. At one time in their busy lives they were managing seven restaurants in North Platte at the same time. In later life Millie and Roger split their time between North Platte and Sun City West, where they enjoyed golfing, bridge, and other social activities.
Following Roger’s death Millie and her significant other Crump Redding continued to alternate time between Nebraska and Sun City West. They spent summers in Alma, NE where they enjoyed the lake and all of the social activities of its perimeter. For the last several years Millie resided in her home in Sun City West, AZ, near her sister Florence Peterson year round.
She is survived by her siblings Helen Higginbotham of North Platte, Florence Peterson of Sun City West, Raymond Yates of North Platte, Louise Houghtelling of Allyn, WA, and many grateful nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roger, significant other Crump Redding, and several nieces and nephews.

Rebecca “Jayne” Carsten Payne, 43 of North Platte, went home to be with her Lord August 8, 2014. She was born October 11, 1970 to Carroll and Kathleen (White) Carsten in North Platte. Rebecca graduated from Hershey High School in 1989 and was involved in various sports. She later graduated from Xenon School of Hair Design in Omaha and worked as a beautician for a number of years. Rebecca married Mike Miller in 1990 and later was united in marriage to Robert A. Payne on March 2, 2006. She attended Grace Community Bible Church. Survivors include her parents, Carroll and Kathleen Carsten of North Platte; daughter, Jessica (Hobie) Vogt of Crete; son, Joshua Payne of Lincoln; brother, Stewart (Barbie) Carsten of Sutherland; nephews, Calvin and Collin Carsten; step-children, Robert (Kim) Payne and Kirk (Rebecca Hansen) Payne; step-grandchildren, Brigett, Turner, Tianna, and Kaylee.
