Helga Mae Freeze, age 97 of North Platte, passed away June 15, 2014.
Helga was born on January 18, 1917 in Hershey, NE to Oscar and Minnie (Palmer) Fransen. She grew up in Hershey and graduated as Valedictorian with the class of 1934. She continued her education with the Commercial Extension Group. She married Howard T. Freeze on July 31, 1938 in Julesburg, CO. The couple moved to North Platte where she loved being the caregiver of her family. She belonged to the First Christian Church, she enjoyed her bowling leagues, the outdoors, camping and fishing.
Helga is survived by her children Butch (Karen) Freeze of Hershey and Gerri Lou (Gary) McCandless of North Platte; 8 grandchildren Jeff (Jill) McCandless of Gothenburg, Troy (Korene) McCandless of Blair, NE, Cody (Melanie) Freeze of North Platte, Leigh King of Roanoke, VA, Kim (Steve) Tatum of Lincoln, Kelly Wilnes of San Antonio, TX, Tessa (Tom) Ficher of Blair, NE and Wendy (Clint) Bell of Woodlake, NE; great grandchildren Samantha (Josh) Thomas, Josef and Kyle McCandless, Jack and Callie McCandless, Andy and John Tatum, Josie, Macie, Cade and Jace Freeze, Taylor and Cory King, Forrest, Emeralde and Jake Weeth, Lyssa Micheel, Concho and Tanner Bell; and great great grandchildren Sadie, Selah, Scarlett, Cooper and Paisley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Howard in 1994; son Jerry Freeze in 1943; daughter JuDee Wilnes in 1994; great grandson Seven; four sisters Ruth Ungles, Elsie Leonhardt, Grace McMichael and Bernice McMichael; and one brother Art Fransen.

Bertha E. Cooke
Bertha E. Cooke, 93, passed away June 13, 2014 at the North Platte Care Center. She was born June 27, 1920 to August and Louise “Lucy” (Hensel) Hubert at Webster County. Bertha was a longtime employee of Northwestern Public Service Company, retiring as chief accountant in 1982. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Richard, Alvin, Paul and Carl Hubert; sisters, Charlotte L‘Heureux, Anna Swedlund and Rosa Loschen. She is survived by 21 nieces and nephews. Cremation was chosen. Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte with the Rev. Frank Fitch officiating. Curtis D. Bodeman
Curtis D. Bodeman, 84, of Hayes Center, passed away June 12, 2014 at the Cozad Golden Living Center with his loving children at his bedside. He was born July 21, 1929, to Chester J. and Hanna Marie (Bannister) Bodeman. He was a lifelong resident of Hayes County. Curtis was married to the love of his life, Wanda Mae Mosely for over fifty years. To that union four children were born, Debra (Larry) Schneider, Kirk (Liyan) Bodeman, Rick Bodeman and Jon (Cheri) Bodeman. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the United Congregational Church, American Legion in Hayes Center and the VFW in Palisade. He was a Hayes County Commissioner. Curtis was united in marriage to Patsy Ogier in 2005. He is survived by his children; his wife, Patsy; fifteen grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; his parents; two brothers, Leroy and Alan; and two grandchildren, Derek and Micky. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2014 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte. Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2014 at the Hayes Center Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Floyd G. Trew
Floyd G. Trew, 87, passed away May 19, 2014 at the North Platte Care Center in North Platte, NE. He was born January 20, 1927 near Cumro, NE to Leonard and Rose (Fortik) Trew. He attended grade school at Cat Creek District and graduated from Ansley High School in just three years. After graduation he worked during the haying season in the Nebraska Sand Hills region. He then enrolled in Kearney State College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. Soon after, by taking night and summer classed he received a Master of Science degree, also from Kearney State College. On August 25, 1957, he married Mary Sue Held. To this union two children were born, Terry Leon and Vicki Sue. During his teaching career Floyd taught in Oconto, Odessa, Grand Island and served as principal in the Loup City Schools. Later, Floyd married Margaret Corn and they had a daughter, Robyn Christine. Floyd also did carpentry, building and remodeling homes. He later moved to North Platte, where he did substitute teaching. Floyd enjoyed gardening and really had a green thumb; he could make almost anything grow and loved his lawn, flowers and plants. Floyd was a member of the German American Club and enjoyed dancing at the North Platte Senior Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Terry; three brothers, Glenn, Earl and Wayne Trew; and one sister, Bernice Peterson. He is survived by two daughters, Vicki Heath of Colorado Springs, CO, and Robyn Colgan of Omaha; two grandsons, Zane and Cade Colgan of Omaha; a brother, Larry (Claudia) Trew of Grand Island; four sisters, Vivian Reisser of Norfolk, Evelyn Catlett of Westerville, Margurette (Chuck) Johnson of North Platte, Laraine (Paul) St. John of Kearney; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his cat, “Kitty”. Catherine Kay ‘Cathy’ Spotts
Catherine Kay ‘Cathy’ Spotts, 74, of North Platte, NE, died at her home Wednesday, June 11, 2014.
Cathy was born February 4, 1940, to Wilbert William Willard and Agnes Martha Hoagland Johnson at Gothenburg, NE. She grew up south of Brady, NE and went to country school, graduating from the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture at Curtis, NE in 1957. Cathy first went to work as a waitress in North Platte then as a bookkeeper for W.J. O’Connors before working at First National Bank in the administrative department. Cathy then spent 23 years and five months at Shopko before she retired in 2011.
On May 16, 1977, Cathy married Glen Roy ‘Skip’ Spotts, Jr. at North Platte where they made their home. Cathy was an avid bowler and enjoyed reading, puzzles and her family. She especially loved her dogs, Buster and Tico.
She is survived by her sister, Karen ‘Sissy’ (Gilbert) Larson, of Curtis, NE; nieces and nephews, Tony (DeAnn) Larson, of Denver, CO, Teresa (Troy) Greve, of Waverly, NE, Mike (Shirley) Godwin, of Enid, OK and Patty Hill (Craig Bramer), of Phoenix, AZ; her great nieces and nephews, Ryan (Megan) Larson, Eric, Brooke and Brett Larson, Tiffany and Alexis Hill, Trae and Trev Greve and Colby and Taylor Godwin; brother-in-law, Larry Godwin, of Mexico; and other family and her friends.
Cathy was preceded in death by her husband, Skip; her parents, Wilbert and Agnes Johnson; a sister, Diane Godwin; and three infant brothers, Lyle, DeLoit and Richard Johnson.
Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 16, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Inurnment will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Robert Blaine ‘Bob’ Miller
Robert Blaine ‘Bob’ Miller, 78, of Hershey, NE, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at St. Luke’s Good Samaritan Society in Kearney, NE.
Bob was born June 27, 1935, to Raymond Blaine Jr. and Alice Lavonne Fitch Miller at North Platte, NE and grew up in Hershey. At the age of 16, Bob graduated from Hershey High School. He was a talented basketball player during high school and after. He rodeoed when he was young and continued his love for horses into his adult life. Bob was also an amateur state steer wrestling champion for two years.
On September 26, 1954, Bob married Janelle Diane Olson. They made their home northeast of Hershey where they farmed, fed cattle and ran a Grade A dairy. They also owned and operated the I-80 One Stop south of Hershey. Bob and Janelle were married for 30 years and had three children. He was later married to Marge Meehan for 14 years.
Bob was a member of the Hershey United Methodist Church for 50 years. He was also the leader of the Hershey Rainmakers 4-H Club for many years. Bob loved being outside. He was often seen on his mower, at the cattle tanks or helping move cattle.
He is survived by his children, Karma (Ronnie) Reed, of Wiley, CO, Kevin (Mary Ann) Miller, of Hermitage, MO and Kent (Glenda) Miller, of Sandborn, IA; 12 grandchildren, Bill Bob (Drew) Miller, Monica (Chas) Jacobsen, Maranda (Taryne) Heintz, Kyrell Miller, Ashley (Dustin) Tixier, Garrett Reed, Reilly (Jhenna) Reed, Lindsey Pesek, Dana Miller, TJ (Kayla) Miller, Mike (Trisha) Odenbrett and Chad Odenbrett; 20 great-grandchildren; his brother, Bruce Miller, and sister-in-law, Donna (Rick) Elsasser, all of Hershey; a niece, Dawn (Mike) Linstrom; two nephews, Robin (Beverly) Miller and Mike (Treasure) Miller; and other family.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Blaine and Lavonne Miller; a brother, Bill Miller; sister-in-law, Kathleen Miller; and his first wife, Janelle.
Burial will be 1 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014, in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Hershey United Methodist Church. The casket will be closed. Alison Lee Alves
Alison Lee Alves, 39, of North Platte, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 at her parent’s home. She was born April 19, 1975 to Morris and Suzanne (Kaczmarek) Turner at Omaha. She attended Central Christian in Omaha and then North Platte High School. Alison’s children were her life; she was always selflessly giving to others. Her hobbies were Bargains and Babies. She was a valiant fighter and very tenacious in her care for others battling the same disease. She is survived by her parents; four children, Cass Michael Turner, Mauricio Edward Alves, Elias Christian Alves and Karisa Jean Lower; a brother, Christopher A. Turner; two sisters, Laurel L. (David) Perkins and Heather E. Turner; her love, Kent Lower; nieces and nephews, Kayla Perkins, Jon Perkins, Thomas Lower, Natalie Lower, Kendra Veirs and Kyle Veirs. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Bethel Church with Pastor Brett Terry officiating. Burial will be at the North Platte Cemetery. Arlene Joyce Miller
Arlene Joyce Miller, 81, of North Platte, passed away at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Ne. Arlene was born February 25, 1933 in Central City, NE to Alfred W. and Eva (Sims) Grubbs. She lived and was raised in Grand Island, NE where she graduated with the class of 1951. On April 20, 1952 she married Bob M. Miller. Arlene worked as a bank teller in Grand Island, Ne, Scottsbluff, NE, Sterling, CO and North Platte, NE.
Arlene was a member of the Roman Catholic Sisters of Charity, the Alter Society and Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bob of North Platte; children, Douglas (Joyce Miller of Charlotte, NC, Mark (Debe) Miller, Theresa (Kevin) Harris all of Alliance, NE; Matthew (Linda) Miller of Panama City Beach, FL; Monica (Mike) Higgins of Alliance, NE, and Pamela (Dale) Schoening of York, NE; 19 grandchildren; 1 step-granddaughter; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Stoner of Grand Island, NE; and a brother, Glen LaVern Grubbs of Grand Island, Ne.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Thomas Alfred; two grandsons; brother, Alfred L. Grubbs; and a sister, Elenora Harrison.

N. Grace Wemple
N. Grace Wemple, 81, of Gothenburg, NE, formerly of North Platte, NE, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014, at the Gothenburg Hospital.
Grace was born June 13, 1932, to Glen Riley and Ruth Mae Wilcott Tracy at Sutherland, NE. She grew up in Sutherland and North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School in 1949.
On December 17, 1950, Grace married William J. ‘Bill’ Wemple. They made their home in North Platte where she worked for the Lincoln County Clerks Office until she retired. Following her retirement she continued to help at the clerk’s office part-time and also helped during elections.
Grace was a member of the First Christian Church and an extension club. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and spending time with her kids and grandkids.
Survivors include her daughters, Pamela (Ken) Fairchild, of Lincoln, NE, Carol Wemple, of Lafayette, CO and Tracy (Wade) Geiken, of Gothenburg; six grandchildren, Rebecca (James) Greene, of Thorton, CO, Ryan (Melodee) Lee, of Lonetree, CO, Justin (Cari) Geiken, of Gothenburg, Jordan and McKenzie Geiken, of Gothenburg and Lindsey (Scott) Frohn, of Lincoln, NE; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Carter and Easton Greene; a sister, Alice (Harold) Lauer, of Lincoln; sisters-in-law, Jackie Johnson and Konnie Wemple, both of North Platte; brothers-in-law, Larry Green, of Grove, OK and Maynard (Nancy) Wemple, of McMinnville, OR; several nieces, nephews and other family.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents, Glen and Ruth Tracy, and stepmother, Margaret Brackett Wellington Tracy; a brother, Glen Roger Tracy; her sister, Henrietta Green; and sister-in-law, Retha Tracy.

Duveen M. Haist
Duveen M. Haist, 80, of North Platte, NE, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Linden Court in North Platte.
Duveen was born March 1, 1934, to John Otto and Agnes Kathinka Christensen Nelsen at Ortonville, MN. At the age of three, the family moved to Oak Harbor, WA where she grew up. Duveen graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1952.
In February 1955, Duveen married William Mitchell Haist at Oak Harbor and they had two children, Treve and Tracy. They made their home in Seattle, WA where she attended Shoreline Community College and received an Associates Degree in accounting. Following her divorce, Duveen moved back to Oak Harbor with Tracy and worked in banking. In 1989 Duveen moved to North Platte to be closer to her daughter.
Duveen was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church where she was actively involved and was the bookkeeper for 16 years. She also liked to crochet and cross stitch.
Survivors include her daughter, Tracy Miller, and three granddaughters, Shaylyn, Daynlee & Treyann Miller, all of Hershey, NE; son, Treve Haist, and three grandsons, Tyler, Terin and Taner (Jacqui) Haist, all of Edmonds, WA; a sister, Deatrice; and other family.
Duveen was preceded in death by her parents, John and Agnes Nelsen; and her son-in-law, Greg Miller.
Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at the Messiah Lutheran Church with Pastor Tim Eighmy officiating.
