Wauneta Thelma Morton

Wauneta Thelma Morton age 82, of North Platte passed away November 20, 2018.
Wauneta was born October 6, 1936 to Alva and Myrtle (Christensen) Morton in North Platte where she
graduated from high school in 1956. She received the Aksarben Good Neighbor Award in 1988. She was
a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
She is survived by a sister, Alpha Milburn.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or the Lincoln County Chapter

John Joseph ‘Buck” Hoban

John Joseph ‘Buck’ Hoban, 78, of North Platte, died Monday, November 19,
2018, at Great Plains Health after a long, brave fight with pancreatic
cancer.

Buck was born November 5, 1940, at Stapleton, Nebraska, to William
Patrick and Lillian Faye (Harrison) Hoban.  He grew up in North Platte
and graduated from North Platte High School with the Class of 1958.
While in high school he worked for Birdwood Products then hired on as a
Fireman-Oiler with the Union Pacific Railroad after graduating.

In February of 1959 Buck joined the U.S. Navy.  He served on the U.S.S.
Carpenter and was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Japan, China and the
Philippines.  Buck was honorably discharged from the Navy in February
1963 then moved to Washington where he worked for the Southern Pacific
Railroad.  He later went to work for Northwestern Bell, which eventually
became U.S. West, and retired from there after 31 years as a network
technician.

Buck loved his black labs and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He
fished Buoy 10 at the mouth of the Colombia River and the Pacific Ocean
at Newport, Oregon for over 35 years, loving every minute of it.

On May 25, 1974, Buck married Patricia Ann Cleveland in Houston, Texas
and adopted John Patrick Cleveland on December 8, 1978. The family made
their home in Longview, Washington until 1998 when they moved back to
North Platte.

Buck was a life member of B.P.O. Elks and the N.R.A. as well as a member
of Ducks Unlimited and the Coastal Conservation Association.  He was an
excellent dancer and loved line dancing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lillian Hoban;
brothers, William ‘Ron’, Morris ‘Moe’ and Fay Hoban; sister, Helen
Rogers; sisters-in-law, Debra Hail and Shirley Hoban; brother-in-law,
Dick Lee; and in-laws, Orel L. and Lois Blair.

Buck is survived by his wife, Patricia, and son, John Patrick Hoban, of
North Platte; sisters Gwendolyn (Billy) Golden, of North Platte and
Dorothy ‘Jodi’ Lee, of Pullman, Washington; brothers, Terrance ‘Terry’
(Anna) Hoban, of Maxwell and Francis ‘Andy’ (Markieta) Hoban, of
Lewellen; sisters-in-law, Marolyn Hoban and Patricia F. Hoban, both of
North Platte; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews
and other family as well as his many friends.

Cremation was chosen.  Graveside Memorial Service with Military Honors
will be 10 a.m. Friday, November 23, 2018, at Fort McPherson National
Cemetery with Chaplain Gary Smith officiating.  Casual dress is
requested for the service.  In lieu of flowers a memorial has been
established for pancreatic cancer research or the Class of ’58
Scholarship Fund.

Bobby Joe Fisher

Bobby Joe Fisher, age 39 of North Platte, passed away Saturday November 17, 2018 at home surrounded by his family.

Bob was born October 8, 1979 in North Platte to Chuck and Angie (Koubek) Fisher.  He graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1998.  He attended SouthEast for one year and then went to work for Grease Monkey, and then Mike Geier at Mike’s Motorcycle.  He went to the Motorcycle Mechanic Institute in Phoenix, AZ and graduated in 2002.  He came back to North Platte to work again at Mike’s Motorcycle.  Over the years Bobby also worked at John Deere and Kelly’s Custom Pack.  He married Marissa Geier in July 2006 and to their union son Kayden Lee was born.  He later married Melinda K. Hansen on March 3, 2013 and daughter Madelyn was born.  Bob opened his own motorcycle and ATV repair shop in April 2017 and fulfilled his lifelong dream to have his own business and work with his father.  He enjoyed great success with his shop until he was diagnosed with Stage 4 liver and pancreatic cancer.  Bobby loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, desert racing and camping.  He enjoyed following his children’s sports and will be remembered as a loving son, husband, father and friend.

Bob is survived by his wife Mindy of North Platte; parents Chuck and Angie Fisher of North Platte; children Blayden Gilbert, Skyler Geier-Dodson, Kayden Fisher and Madelyn Fisher all of North Platte; sister Ashley (fiancé Matt Richardson) Carlson of Hastings; mother-in-law Bonita “Bonnie” Hansen of Omaha; sister-in-law Becky (Willis) Deterding of Omaha; nieces and nephews Cynthia, Wyatt, Alysa, Harrison and Julian; grandmother Dot Koubek of North Platte; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Bobby Joe Koubek, Stanford Ray “Fuzz” Fisher, Laurene Timmerman; and father-in-law Marvin Hansen.

Mary Ann Long

Mary Ann Long, age 76 of North Platte, passed away Friday November 16, 2018 at Great Plains Health.

Mary Ann was born September 3, 1942 in McCook, NE to Harlan and Lois (Chrisman) Gordon.  Her father Harlan was killed in WWII when she was 2 and her mother later married Fran Morris in 1949 who raised her and added her brother Jim to the family.  They moved to North Platte where Mary Ann graduated from North Platte High School in 1960.  She married Larry Long on October 2, 1960 in North Platte at the Episcopal Church.  She and Larry lived on the family ranch and Mary Ann worked with her family until she took a job at Jack Dougherty’s Warehouse.  She later worked at the court house, eventually becoming the County Assessor, which she retired from on December 29, 2010.  She enjoyed riding horses and was a charter member of the Velvet Spurs, barrel racing and team roping.  She also enjoyed crafting, chira painting, knitting and making many sweaters and shirts for the family.

Mary is survived by her husband Larry Long of North Platte; son Doug (Bonnie) Long of North Platte; granddaughter Amanda Miller of North Platte; great grandson Christopher Miller of North Platte; brother Jim (Jeanine) Morris of Ellicott City, MD; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather Fran; and mother and father-in-law George and Wilma Long.

Sarah Elizabeth Worden

Sarah Elizabeth Worden, age 18, of North Platte died Saturday, November 10, 2018 near Overton, NE as a result of an automobile accident. Sarah was born January 19, 2000 to Robert Scott and Zella Rae (Bowker) Worden at Federal Way, WA.  She graduated from North Platte High School in 2018 and was ready to start at North Platte Community College to pursue a nursing degree.  She loved cats and riding horses.  Sarah was vibrant and loved life and had an input on many.

She is survived by her parents of North Platte; three brothers, Jonathan Hays of Buckley, WA, Jacob Hays and Joshua Hays both of North Platte; grandparents, David and Sandra Worden of Showlow, AZ and Richard and Mary Bowker of North Platte; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and special people in Sarah’s life, Damion and Jennifer Weston of Louisville, KY.  She was preceded in death by two aunts, Deidre Rhinehart and Vickie Soto; and an infant cousin, Layla Kvaale.

Bernice M. Pierson

Bernice M. Pierson, age 92 of North Platte, passed away November 10, 2018 at Centennial Park Retirement Village. Bernice was born March 12, 1926 to J. E. Roland and Sarah R. (Jagger) Williams at Farnam, NE. She grew up at Farnam and the family later moved to L.A. California later retuning to Nebraska to Gothenburg and Brady. Bernice graduated from Brady High School and moved to North Platte in 1944.

She was united in marriage to Leonard Pierson on June 9, 1946. She worked for Northwester Bell until her retirement in 1981. Bernice was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Signet Chapter #55 O.E.S, B.P.O. Does and American Legion Auxiliaries, Women of the Moose, assistant Blue Bird leader, and enjoyed her bridge clubs and bowling.

Her family includes her children, Mike (Mikki) Pierson of Yuma, AZ, Pamela (Mike) Fear of North Platte, and Patricia “Trish” (Don) McFarland, Jr. of Burleson, TX, 6 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren and many other loving relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leonard on September 5, 2004, a son, Mark Pierson, and brothers, Donald and Robert Williams.

Services will be 1:00 pm Friday, November 16, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. Douglas A. Delp officiating. Burial will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 9am to 8pm Thursday with the family receiving friends from 6pm to 8pm at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.

Lynne Mae Stanton

Lynne Mae Stanton, 67, of North Platte, died at home on Saturday,
November 10, 2018.

Lynne was born April 10, 1951, to Maurice ‘Moe’ Oscar and Maureen Mae
(Arney) Stanton in North Platte where she grew up. Lynne graduated from
North Platte High School in 1969 and was a Jobs Daughters Queen while in
high school.  She went on to attended the University of Northern
Colorado at Greeley, graduating with a teaching degree in 1973.  Lynne
worked for U.S. West in Denver then did Information Technology work and
returned to North Platte in 1998 to work for Great Plains Regional
Medical Center.  She eventually retired in 2013.

On August 13, 1988, Lynne married Rodney Ogden in Las Vegas, Nevada.
They lived in Santa Barbara, California, and Denver before moving to
North Platte.

She is survived by her husband, Rodney Ogden, of North Platte; brother,
Gary (Debbie) Stanton, of Chicago, Illinois; and her niece and two nephews.

Lynne was preceded in death by her parents, Moe and Maureen Stanton;
sister and brother-in-law, Deanna and Frank Keslar; and nephew, Andy Keslar.

Delores Rae McConnell

Delores Rae McConnell, 86, of Paxton, passed away September 22, 2018 at Centennial Park Retirement Village, North Platte, Ne.  Delores was born July 3, 1932 at Sutherland, the first child and only daughter to Frances Joseph (Fritz) and Rose Constance (Sedlacek) Ecker.

As a young girl, she lived south of Paxton and attended District 16 country school through the 8th grade. She moved to Denver, Co. with her family for 2 years so her father could attend welding school, then returned to Paxton and graduated from Paxton High School in 1949. On February 16, 1950, Delores was united in marriage to Merle L. McConnell in a double ring ceremony with Bob and Maxine Perlinger at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Paxton. To this marriage, three sons were born, Patrick Ryan, Michael Kent, and Mark Stephen. During most of her married life, she was a homemaker and mother to her three boys as they grew up on the McConnell family farm at Sarben, Ne. Later in Life, after her family reached adulthood, she spent several years working as a CNA and resident transport driver for the Sutherland Care Center and enjoyed it very much.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Fritz and Rose Ecker; her husband, Merle; brothers, Dale, Lyle and Harold Ecker; niece and nephew, Shelley and Jeff Ecker; great grandson, Caden McConnell; great granddaughter, Korah Mullen; and daughter in law Gladys (Plugge) McConnell.

She is survived by her three sons, Patrick (Ruth), Michael (Cindy), and Mark (Sue) and families;  grandchildren, Cammille, Ryan, Jessica, Nathan, and Megan; step grandchildren, Tammy, Scott, Cher, and Brad and their families;  several great grandchildren; one great, great granddaughter, and extended family who loved her dearly.

As a final act of giving so that others could benefit in the future, Delores became an anatomical donor and her body was given over to the University of Nebraska Medical Center College to further the education of doctors and medical staff that are working towards their goals of becoming future life savers in society.

A very heartfelt thank you goes out to all of Delores’ attending doctors, nurses and staff at Great Plains Health and Centennial Park for making a most trying time much easier and to Carpenter Memorial Chapel for coordinating all the necessary arrangements.

Luella Mae Scott

Luella Mae Scott, 88, of North Platte, passed away November 7, 2018 at her home surrounded by family. She was born June 14, 1930, to Everett and Gladys (Swisher) Keeten at Phillipsburg, Kansas.

Luella was a graduate of North Platte High School. She worked for Youth Benefits Unlimited in Colorado for many years before moving back to North Platte. She worked for Walmart for sixteen years. She loved all of her family and enjoyed the time spent with all of them.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Timothy Lee Scott; sister, B. Beyer and brother, Arlon Keeten.

Luella is survived by a son, Terry D. (Becky) Scott of North Platte; a sister, Corrine (Vern) Mattson of New Jersey; twelve grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren, two great grandchildren; friends, Milly Richards and Glenda O’Conner.

Donna Jean Eckhoff


Donna Jean Eckhoff, of North Platte, died at home surrounded by her
family on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at the age of 54, after a brave
battle with cancer.

Donna was born January 1, 1964, to Johnie Malion, Sr. and Helen Mae
(German) Clair, the first New Year’s baby born at St. Mary’s Hospital in
North Platte.  She grew up in North Platte where she went to school and
had perfect attendance from kindergarten through 6th grade.  Donna
attended North Platte High School and later received her GED.  She went
on to earn her CNA certification then worked at Bethesda Care Center in
Sutherland.

On June 29, 1991, she was united in marriage to the love of her life,
Terry Lee Eckhoff, at the Sutherland United Methodist Church.  The
couple lived in Sutherland then moved to Haxtun, Colorado for a while
before returning to Sutherland and eventually North Platte.  Since Terry
drove a semi, they enjoyed going over-the-road, doing a lot of
sightseeing together, and Donna learned to drive the semi.  She and
Terry were married only a few years when he died of cancer in 1999.

Donna went on to work at various places including J.C. Penny’s, Happy
Heart, Employer Unity, Hospitality Inn, Hampton Inn, Herberger’s, Gary’s
Super Foods, North Platte Public Schools and Mid-Plains Community
College.  She was a member of the Sutherland United Methodist Church and
Relay for Life.

Donna is survived by her sister, Janet (Robert) Vath, of Sutherland;
brothers, Steven (Beth) Clair and Johnie ‘Jack’ Clair, Jr., of North
Platte and Jim (Brenda) Clair, of Maxwell; 8 nieces and 5 nephews; 8
great-nieces and 11 great-nephews; and other family.

Along with her husband, Terry, she was preceded in death by her parents,
Johnie and Helen Clair; nephew Robert ‘Bobby’ Vath, Jr.; and special
aunt, Cay Schaffer.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, November 12, 2018, at the
Sutherland United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Douglas A. Delp
officiating.  Burial will follow in the Paxton Cemetery. Visitation will
be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Odean Colonial
Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements.  Condolences

are suggested to the Gift of Hope to help others battling cancer.
