Dennis “Denny” Lee McDaniel

Dennis “Denny” Lee McDaniel, 63, of Wellfleet, NE, died as the result of an accident on Monday, March 24, 2014, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE.

Denny was born December 12, 1950, to Bobby “Bob” Harris and Delores Marie Davis McDaniel at Nashville, KS and grew up in Attica, KS. While in high school he worked for the Vet Clinic and graduated from Attica High School in 1968. Denny then attended Kansas State.

After college Denny went to work for Vigortone then worked for Motorola for 13 years before going back to Vigortone. In 1989 he moved to North Platte, NE with Vigortone then worked for Furst-McNess until 2001 when he became self-employed as a Livestock Nutrition Specialist.

On April 14, 1990, Denny married Karen Jennifer Kearney at Lexington, NE where they made their home before moving to Wellfleet in 1991. Denny liked to train livestock dogs and loved to drive his mules. He was a certified flight instructor and loved flying. At the age of 28 he received a new kidney from his brother and later lost his left leg in an accident in 2001.

Denny is survived by his wife, Karen, of Wellfleet; his parents, Bob and Delores, of Attica; a son, Clenten McDaniel, of Oklahoma; four daughters, Dianna Mae, of Oklahoma, Rachel (Paul) Mandelko, of Chadron, NE, and Jacki Jones (Randy Ward) and Robin (Pete) Raffaeli, all of Ogallala, NE; 12 grandchildren, Mae and Marshal Mandelko, Cody Schimmer, Tanner and Kayla Jones, Joey Peck, Josh Schimmer, Christopher and Alyssa Bahnsen, Kolton and Janaya Foran and Dakota McDaniel; a brother, Delbert (Cathy) McDaniel, of Benbrook, TX; a sister, Cindy (Dan) Arnoldy, of Sanger, TX; his mother-in-law, Arlene Palmer, of Maywood, NE; brothers-in-law, Lonnie Carpenter, of Indianola, NE and Barry (Merry Sue) Palmer, of North Platte, NE; several nieces, nephews and other family.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, at St. William’s Catholic Church in Wellfleet, with Father Harlan Waskowiak officiating. Burial will follow in the Wellfleet Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore and before services in Wellfleet. John Foster Cox

John Foster Cox, age 86 of Lincoln, formerly of North Platte, passed away in Beatrice on March 18, 2014.
John was born on July 24, 1927 in Sutherland, NE to Russell and Fredonia “Chattie” (Foster) Cox. He grew up on the family farm north of Sutherland and graduated from Sutherland High School. He attended UNL for 1 year before entering the US Navy, serving during WWII. When he returned from the navy he finished college with a degree in Electrical Engineering then moved to North Platte where he began his 40 year career at Municipal Light and Water as an electrical engineer and manager. He married Patricia Cullen on May 19, 1953 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was a strong supporter of the North Platte Catholic Schools and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was an avid pilot and was generous with his time and talent, contributing countless hours to Habitat For Humanity and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He set a wonderful example for his children, guiding and encouraging them to become strong, independent adults. He will be remembered as a loving husband, dad and grandpa.
John is survived by his children Virginia “Ginny” (Greg) Donovan of Lincoln, NE, John C. (Lori) Cox of DeWitt, NE, Barbara (Carlos) Guerrero of Tucson, AZ, and Teresa (Don) Raven of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren John Guerrero of Los Angeles, CA, Sarah Guerrero of Tucson, AZ, Jayme Cox of DeWitt, NE, Scott Donovan and Sam Donovan both of Lincoln, NE; siblings Charlotte Bubsey of Simsbury, CT, Fred (Edie) Cox of Raleigh, NC; sister-in-law Peggy Cullen of Lincoln, NE; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends, and his beloved pets Pebbles, Sofie and Soccer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Patricia his wife of 53 years; and brother-in-law Frank Bubsey.

Donn Wayne Hansen

Donn Wayne Hansen, 68, of North Platte, NE, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at his home.

Donn was born March 19, 1946, to John Wesley and Janet Malsbury Hansen at Superior, NE. He grew up on a farm near Bostwick, NE and graduated from Superior High School in 1964.

In 1966 Donn was drafted into the U.S. Army and served until 1968. Following his discharge he worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Depot near Grand Island, NE before moving to North Platte in 1970 where he worked as a Carpenter on the Union Pacific Diesel Shop. In 1971 Donn began his career with the North Platte Fire Department and retired from there in 2005.

Donn married Marilyn Jones in 1966 and to this union two children, Sheila and Brian, were born. He later married Susan Lynn Weiss. Donn was a member of the Aeries Eagles #2839 and Local #831 Union. He liked carpentry and playing cards with friends. He also enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping. Donn especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Hansen, of North Platte; two daughters, Sheila Miller, of Henderson, NV and Wendi, of Kearney, NE; three sons, Brian Hansen (Barb) and Jeffery, of North Platte and Brandon (Staci), of Lincoln, NE; nine grandchildren, Peyton, Logan, Amber, Samantha, Brandon, Brittini, Tiffini, Camden and Carter; four great-grandchildren, Tyce, Beckett, Zoey and HaLeigh; a brother, Dwight (Janet) Hansen, of Cedar Rapids, IA; three sisters, Sharon (Bob) Schmidt, of Buckeye, AZ, Debra Young, of Fort Collins, CO and Wanda Hansen, of Las Vegas, NV; three nieces; two nephews; and other family.

Donn was preceded in death by his parents, John and Janet.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Gary Smith officiating. Burial with military honors will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Evergreen Cemetery in Superior. Clyde J “CJ” Graves, 82, of North Platte NE, died Sunday January 5, 2014 at the Cottage Grove Place Gardens in Cedar Rapids, IA after a prolonged illness.
CJ was born on December 5, 1931 in Fullerton Nebraska, to Clyde James and Gwendolyn Blanche (Thomas) Graves. CJ attended school and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1950.
CJ was employed by Black’s Grocery store in Fullerton until 1951 when he went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.
CJ was drafted during the Korean conflict and served 2 years in the Army from 1952-1954 in the Chemical Corps. After the service CJ returned to Northwestern Bell and retired on March 1, 1990.
CJ married Margaret Ann Wallace at Lexington NE on March 17, 1956. CJ and Margaret lived in Grand Island, O’Neill, Gothenburg, and North Platte NE.
CJ loved golf, camping, fishing, hunting and Husker football. CJ belonged to the American Legion, the Telephone Pioneers, and the Lake Maloney Golf club.
After retirement CJ and Margaret spent their winters at Split Rail RV Park in Mission, Texas. After retirement CJ and Margaret travelled extensively throughout the United States in their RV and attended many Telephone Pioneer rallies.
CJ is survived by his son Richard “Rick” (Crystal) Graves; his granddaughter April Clare of Robins IA; his brother DG (Elaine) Graves of Cottonwood Az, his sister-in-law Ruby (Joe) Graves of Grand Island NE, his sister-in-law Marilyn (Ken) Kring of Lexington, and brother-in-law Bob (Sue) Wallace of Kearney.
Preceding him in death, were his wife, Margaret; his parents; brothers Gerald “Joe” and Charles “Chuck”; sister-in-law, Barbara Graves; and brother-in-law, John Wallace.

Dennis Mathers

Dennis Mathers, age 67 of North Platte, lost his battle with cancer on March 14, 2014. He was surrounded in his last days by family and friends.
Dennis was born on November 18, 1946 in North Platte to Clarence “Buster” Mathers and Elvina White-Mathers. He was the youngest of four siblings on the family farm 9 ½ miles south of Paxton, NE. He attended Paxton High School and in 1963 joined the United States Navy and went to basic training in San Diego, CA. He later served in Vietnam on the U.S.S. Hull as a seaman. Dennis was honored with a National Defense Service Medal, Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device (1960), Vietnam Service Medal, two Bronze Stars and Meritorious Unit Commendation. He was honorably discharged in February 1969 after an injury. After returning from service, Dennis farmed the family homestead. He then moved to North Platte and worked for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads for 35 years. In his spare time he was an avid deer hunter and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Elvina Mathers; sister Karen Loden; and brother-in-law Larry Garrelts.
Surviving family include sister Peggy Garrelts of Ogallala, NE; his significant other Linda Thiem; son Dwane Clarence Mathers and daughter Deanna Marie Mathers, all of North Platte, NE; his adoptive sister Ardis (Loren) Engler of Paxton, NE; and many other grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Keith L. Knoedler, 76, of North Platte, passed away March 15, 2014 at his home. He was born Jan. 3, 1938 to John and Hannah (Gronewold) Knoedler at Farnam, NE. Keith was raised in Gothenburg and attended Gothenburg High School. He served in the United States Army. On June 2, 1960, he was united in marriage to Peggy Ann Haynes at Gothenburg. Keith was employed as the parts manager for John Hurt Chevrolet/Denny Mogis Chevrolet from 1959 until 1978. He then owned and operated A & W Restaurant in North Platte for 24 years. Keith enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and making homemade ice cream and donuts with his grandkids. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; son, Troy both of North Platte; daughter, Janell Svoboda of Lincoln; two brothers, Raymond Knoedler of Eugene, OR and Harold Knoedler of Gothenburg; two sisters, Pat Teter of Springfield, OR and Maxine Metcalf of Salem, OR; four grandchildren, Chad and Derek Knoedler, Jared and Jordyn Svoboda; nieces; nephews; and other relatives. Shirley Helene Einspahr, 84, of Sutherland, went home to be with the Lord on March 13, 2014. Shirley was born Jan. 30, 1930 to Russell and Helen Schrotberger Wamsley at Paxton. On May 25, 1947, she married Wayne Einspahr in Oberlin, KS. Wayne and Shirley lived in Wauneta, NE for several years. They moved to Kimball, NE and Wayne had a plumbing and heating business. They moved to Sutherland in 1964 where Wayne was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad. They set up a ceramic business and Shirley enjoyed giving ceramic classes and going to craft shows. They also bought several homes in Sutherland and together they remodeled them. To this union three children were born, Cynthia (Bill) Allgood, David (Cindy) Einspahr and Michelle (Jack) Blomstedt all of Sutherland. Survivors include her children; grandchildren, Robyn (Kelly) Kendall, Lane (Connie) Dancer, Matt (Vicki) Dancer, Justin (Tabitha) Blomstedt, Jaden, Garrett, and Brook Blomstedt; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne in 2012; her parents, Russell and Helen Wamsley; her brother Gene Wamsley; an infant brother Alvin; and several aunts and uncles. Jack S. Wright, Sr., 86, of North Platte, passed away March 14, 2014 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 29, 1928 to Harold and Margaret Elaine (Bundy) Wright at North Platte. Jack graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1945. He served in the United States Navy from 1945 until his honorable discharge in 1949, during this time he was stationed on the USS Chewagon, touring the Pacific and Mediterranean Oceans. His military service was an endearing and adventurous time in his life. On May 28, 1949, he was united in marriage to Dolores V. Hamilton in Philadelphia, PA. Jack hired out to the Union Pacific Railroad in 1944 and again in 1952, employed as a switchman, brakeman, and a yardmaster, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed hunting, pinochle and was an avid Husker fan. He is survived by his sons, Jack Jr. of Crystal Falls, MI, Steven (Donna) of North Platte and Randy (Cindy) of Escondido, CA; four grandchildren, Lisa, Lori, Jason and Nicholas; five great grandchildren, Eric, Abigail, Jack, Matthew and Karson; a brother-in-law, Gilbert (Donna) Hamilton of Corpus Christi, TX; and special friend, Jean Mills. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dolores in 2004; brothers, Robert, Don, George, Jerry and Fred. Memorials are suggested to North Platte Humane Society. Carl M. Wid, age 87 of Paxton, passed away March 11, 2014 at the Sutherland Care Center.
Carl was born on March 4, 1927 in Paxton, NE to Erik and Eda (Hammond) Wid. He attended school at District 8 in Keith County. He worked on his Uncle John Monson’s ranch for 2 years then entered the US Army June 4, 1945. After his discharge he returned to Paxton. On July 8, 1950 Carl married Gayle Bryant at Sarben, NE. The couple lived south of Paxton where Carl farmed for many years. He was well known for his amazing work ethic. They moved into Paxton in 1998. He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #303. He enjoyed building birdhouses, doing woodwork, and riding his 4-wheeler to his coffee group. He loved his animals and family, especially his grandchildren.
Carl is survived by his wife Gayle of Paxton; three children Deborah E. (Kelly) Lammers of Milford, NE, Mark (Brenda) Wid of Lincoln, NE and Blaine (Teresa) Wid of North Platte, NE; his brother Robert (Phyllis) Wid of Axtell, NE; grandchildren Steven (Alisa) Bussen of Kramer, NE, Angie (Tim) Siedell of Lincoln, NE, John (Nicky) Bussen of Lincoln, Brandon (Jamie) Lammers of Peoria, AZ, Malinda (Brandon) Bakker of Auburn, NE, Lyndi (Matt) Johnston of Aurora, CO, Luke Wid of Omaha, Bo (Tracy) Wid of Lincoln, NE, Michael (Whitney) Nolan of St. Louis, MO, Eric (Heidi) Nolan of Misawa, Japan, Travis Nolan of Grand Island, NE, Hannah Wid and Trevor Wid both of Lincoln, NE, Elli Wid of North Platte, NE; 15 great grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Viola Fischer; and brothers, Duane and Elmer.
