Charlotte Alene Yanken, age 83 formerly of North Platte, passed away March 10, 2014 in Omaha, NE.
Charlotte was born June 22, 1930 in Grand Island, NE to Willis and Marie (Montague) Prowett. She spent her early years in Grand Island and attended high school in North Platte. She married Sylvester Yanken on September 3, 1950 in North Platte. She spent many years as the Deputy Treasurer of Lincoln County. She and Syl were active members of the UP Old Timers Club and enjoyed their many activities.
Charlotte is survived by daughter Victoria (Robin) Marler of Omaha; 4 grandchildren Kelly (Jeff) Sichta of Gretna, NE, Kasey (Julie) Marler of Jonesborough, TN, Korie Marler of Omaha, NE, and Kyle (Julie) Marler of Springfield, VA; 8 great grandchildren Nicole (Travis Sanders) Sichta, Arielle, Marissa and Delainie Sichta, Treyson and Eva Marler, Brock and Kylie Marler; 3 great great grandchildren Ryland, Wilder and Isla; as well as many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Syl Yanken; 4 sisters; and 1 brother.

Clarence A. Chessmore
Clarence A. Chessmore, 88, of North Platte, NE, passed Monday, March 10, 2014.
Clarence was born November 7, 1925, to William Nathan and Sarah Eliza Anderson Chessmore at Sutherland, NE where he grew up. He graduated from Sutherland High School in 1944.
Clarence joined the U.S. Navy in March of 1944 and served on the Island of Yap guarding Prisoners of War. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to the Sutherland area. He worked for Municipal Light and Water in North Platte before going to work for Nebraska Public Power District in 1966, and retired from there in 1991.
On April 9, 1950, Clarence married Ila Deloris Todd at North Platte where they made their home. They opened their home and hearts to many children; some spent their whole life with Clarence and Ila while others were with them for only a few years.
Clarence enjoyed going for rides, gardening, auctions and livestock sales. He also loved animals, the North Platte River area and Cody Park.
Survivors include, Cathy (Kenny) Skarniak, of Grand Island, NE, Pam (Merle) Stryker, of Colorado, William “Butch” (Peggy) Chessmore, of Clay Center, NE, Vicki (Dennis) Collins, of Lincoln, NE, Clinton Ingram, of Montana, Teresa (Jan) Smith, of North Platte, Debbie Chessmore, of Akron, OH, Rocky (Jane) Ingram, of Colorado, Todd (Peggy) Chessmore, of Cody, NE, Jimmy (Linda) Tyan, of Trenton, NE, Jodell (Chris) Guljus, of Akron, OH, Terrence (Allison) Chessmore, of Cleveland, OH, Brian (Shakera) Chessmore, of Blue Hill, NE, Khristine Dhami, of Plano, TX, Jon (Phatcharin) Chessmore, of San Diego, CA and Ashley (Rob) Fleharty, of North Platte.
He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Leon Tyan, of North Platte; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family.
Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Ila; Goldie Buttle and Donnie Ballard; his parents, William and Sarah; and three sisters, Clara May Slater, Mary Sells and Velma Jones.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2014, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Burial with military honors will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Hazel M. Wolf
Hazel M. Wolf, age 79 of Stapleton, went to her Eternal home on March 8, 2014 at The Good Life Nursing Home in Callaway, NE.
Hazel was born on March 10, 1934 in Sutherland, NE to Herbert and Daisy (Trembly) Rundback. She was baptized on July 2, 1950 at the White Horse River in North Platte, NE. She attended grade school at a country school near Ringgold, NE and graduated from North Platte High School in 1953. After graduation she attended Airline Personnel Training in Omaha, NE. On February 6, 1954 Hazel married Robert L. Wolf in New Almelo, KS. And to this union three children were born, Herbert Leo, Michael Leon and Rose Ellen. Hazel enjoyed her animals, flowers and reading, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Hazel is survived by her husband Robert of Stapleton; children Herbert of North Platte, Michael (Juanita) of Scott City, KS, and Rose Ramm of Stuart, NE; 8 grandchildren Wade Wolf and Cailin Wolf both of North Platte, Stacy Wolf of Scott City, KS, Kindra Mills of Lakin, KS, Justin Ramm of Stuart, NE, Mathew Ramm of Gretna, NE, Rebecca Ramm of Atkinson, NE and Trevor Ramm of Stuart, NE; 5 great grandchildren Dillon Wolf of North Platte, NE, Tina Wilson and Jordan Wilson both of Lakin, KS, Kayde Ramm and Klaire Ramm both of Stuart, NE; brother Carl (Jo Gates) Rundback; sister Irene (Gary) Branham; and numerous other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Mary Lou (Rundback) Lake; son-in-law Michael Ramm; and grandson Tony Wolf.

George Burton Curtis
George Burton Curtis, 87, of Sun City, AZ, died Thursday, February 20, 2014, in Arizona.
George was the third of six children born to Earl Washington and Georgia Anna Hern Curtis. He was born March 28, 1926, at Houston, MO. He received the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour at the age of 12 while attending the Ozark Baptist Church. George graduated from Houston High School in 1943 then attended the University of Missouri at Columbia. His college years were interrupted by W.W.II when he served his country for two years in the Navy Air Corps.
Following his discharge from the Navy, George returned to college and graduated in 1950 with a degree in Agronomy. He then began his career as a fertilizer salesman with a subsidiary of Conoco in Illinois. George later took a few years off from sales to ranch with Joy and Ed Norman, his sister and her husband, at Arnold, NE where he lived with the family.
In the early 1960’s, George returned to selling fertilizer and worked for Agrico/Williams in Minnesota. His territory stretched from Minnesota to northern Iowa and eastern South Dakota. He retired from Agrico/Williams in 1986 and took a job with Con Agra for another five years until fully retiring at the age of 65 in 1992. George was offered several promotions but preferred the one-to-one sales over an office job with paperwork.
On February 1, 1986, George married Arlis Smith Rossiter and immediately gained a family with his stepson, Thayne.
George is survived by his wife, Arlis, of Sun City; stepson, Thayne (Jolene) Rossiter, of Minnesota; three grandchildren, Brienna, Melody and Christopher Rossiter; two sisters, Joy (Lowell) Conrad, of North Platte, NE and Mary Ann (Klenn) Wylie, of Missouri; a brother, Franklin (Norma) Curtis, of Denver, CO; and many nieces, nephews and other family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Georgia; two brothers, Earl, Jr. and Charles; an infant sister, Alta Mae; a brother-in-law, Ed Norman; and a nephew, James Burton Curtis.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014, at the North Platte Berean Church with Pastor George Cheek officiating. Kenny McKean
Kenny McKean, 91, of Hershey, NE, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, NE.
He was born William Kenneth McKean on March 19, 1922, to William Art and Clara Mae Oliver McKean at Wallace, NE. He graduated from Hershey High School then served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. Kenny served in Europe during W.W.II, and also in Korea during the Korean War.
Following his discharge, Kenny returned to the Hershey area and hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad where he worked for 41 years, retiring in 1982. Kenny was an Agent for the U.P. in Hershey from 1956 until the station closed in 1971. He was the Mobile Agent for Hershey, Sutherland, Paxton, Roscoe and Ogallala until his retirement.
On March 20, 1948, Kenny married Bessie Ellen Swiggert at Julesburg, CO and they made their home in Hershey.
Kenny was a member of the V.F.W. Post #9798, American Legion Post #279, the Lincoln County Veterans Service Committee and a charter member of the Hershey Lions Club. He was a life member of the Union Pacific Old Timers Club, a member of the Transportation Communications Union and 40 & 8 where he held both local and state offices. Kenny also served as a member of the Hershey Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years and was on the Riverside Cemetery District since its beginning in 1967. He took care of the Riverside, Lamont and Trinity Cemeteries.
Kenny enjoyed stamp and coin collecting and playing cards at the Senior Center. He also belonged to a stamp club and a coin club. Kenny especially enjoyed being with his family and friends, but his passion was playing Bingo.
He is survived by his daughters, Peggy (Jack) Moorhead, of Hershey and Ramona McConnell, of North Platte; seven grandchildren, Cynthia (Gary) Schnieders, of Jefferson City, MO, Burt McConnell (Phyllis Mackley), of Hershey, William (Roseann) McConnell, of Tucson, AZ, Matt Moorhead (Yolanda Milton), of Lincoln, NE, Kassie (Matt) Pelster, of Elsie, NE, Mitch (Stephanie) Moorhead and Marc (Brooke) Moorhead, all of Hershey; 15 great-grandchildren; 13 great great-grandchildren; and other family.
Kenny was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie; a son-in-law, Robert ‘Bob’ McConnell; and his parents, Art and Clara.

Kenneth B. Reicheneker
Kenneth B. Reicheneker, 72, of North Platte, NE, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at his home.
Ken was born November 13, 1941, to John Gottleib and Julia Jelinek Reicheneker at Kearney, NE. He grew up on a farm east of Odessa, NE and graduated from Kearney High School in 1959. Ken worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads for a short time before going to work for the Nebraska National Guard as a mechanic.
On January 28, 1966, Ken married Ann Newquist in Kearney where they made their home until August when Ken was transferred to North Platte with the National Guard. He later switched to the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring from there in 1980. Ken then went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad and retired from there in 2006.
Ken was a member of Eagles Aeries #2839 and the Flatlander Car Club and enjoyed having coffee with his car club buddies. He was a handyman and liked gardening and taking his dog, Baxter, for walks. Ken loved to follow Nebraska football year round. His favorite hobby was keeping his eye on the weather. He also enjoyed talking about and working on old cars. Ken loved his family and liked spending time with them.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ann, of North Platte; his daughter, Amy (Rich) McIntosh, of Lincoln, NE; a son, Jason Reicheneker, of Denver, CO; his dog, Baxter; three brothers, Erwin (Dixie) Reicheneker, of York, NE and Eugene (Lois) Reicheneker and Johnny (Carol) Reicheneker, all of Kearney; sisters-in-law, Linda (Duane) Bond, of Imperial, NE and Carol (Jim) Goings, of Broken Bow, NE; brother-in-law, Roger (Kimberly) Newquist, of Ord, NE; several nieces, nephews; great-nieces and nephews, and other family.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, John and Julia; and two nephews, Randy and Darin Reicheneker.

Eva Virginia Everett
Eva Virginia Everett, 82, of North Platte, NE, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at her home surrounded by family.
Eva was the 11th of 12 children born to Harry Edward and Rosa Lucinda Greeley Lee. She was born June 4, 1931, at North Platte and grew up in the North Platte and Sandhills area where she attended school. Eva worked as a waitress and, “Loved every minute of it!” She later owned the Skelly Inn.
Eva was married for 10 years and had a son, Rodney, before divorcing her first husband. In 1961 she married Norman Medinger. Eva and Rodney joined Norman and his children, Christine, Katheryn and Gerald, and they made their home together in North Platte. Norman died in 1972.
In 1977 Eva married Roland Everett and they continued living in North Platte where they could enjoy the children and grandchildren. Roland and Eva enjoyed traveling South in their motor home. Everett passed away in 1999.
Eva was a member of the First United Methodist Church, UMW and Circle Three. She was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Eva loved baking for the church, VFW, her friends and family. Eva loved playing cards; on Wednesday nights she cooked for her pitch group and Fridays she played for pennies with her PeKeNo group. Eva loved her birds and family, and she cared for others as her own.
Eva is survived by her daughters, Christine (Randy) Matson, of Grant, NE and Katheryn (Morgan Darrell “M.D.”) Keenan, of Langley, SC; five grandchildren, Mark Matson, of North Platte, Angie (George) Adams, of Ogallala, NE, Danielle (Chris) Schuette, of Waynesville, OH, Betsy (Nathan) Barber, of Langley, SC and Morgan “Tuffy” Keenan, of St. Louis, MO; her great-grandchildren, Emma and Andrew Matson, Wyatt Adams, Allison and Levi Schuette and Isabella “Bella” Keenan; three sisters, Dorothy Miller and Ruth Carlson, of North Platte and Daisy (Don) Musser, of Tryon, NE; a brother, Ben (Birdie) Lee, of North Platte; her great friends and neighbors, Bill and Kathy Dupree; and numerous nephews, nieces, other family and friends.
Along with her husbands, Eva preceded in death by her sons, Rodney and Gerald Medinger; her parents, Harry and Rosa Lee; three brothers, Walter, Clyde and Robert Lee; and five sisters, Phyllis Marshall, Agnes Kelley, Opal Barnes, Ruby Houk and Pearl Williams.

Nathan “Nate” L. Clark
Nathan “Nate” L. Clark, 72, of North Platte, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. He was born July 17, 1941 to Lester L. and Ruby P. (Jensen) Clark in Dickens, NE. Nate graduated as salutatorian at the age of 16 from Wallace High School with the class of 1958. He served in the United States Navy from 1958 until his honorable discharge as 1st Class Petty Officer in 1966. On April 14, 1968, he was united in marriage to Verdena K. Butolph in North Platte. Nate was employed by the UP Fruit Express, as a clerk inspector, until his retirement. He was a member of Valley Christian Church, DAV, American Legion, and the Eagles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, tending his calves and weather watching. He is survived by his wife, Verdena of North Platte; two sons, Eric (Stephanie) Clark of Omaha and Tyler (Tonya) Clark of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Brode, Henley and one future grandchild; a sister, Sharon Karre of North Platte; a step brother, Larry Wilmeth of North Platte; step sisters, Betty Halsey of North Platte and Creta Waltemath of Kearney; mother-in-law, Ethel Butolph of North Platte; sisters-in-law Voneta (Dennis) Engler, Joleen (Jon) Oosting, Gaylene (Robert) Davis; brothers-in-law Doug (Joy) Butolph, Arthur “Dick” Miller; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mary Jane Anderson
Mary Jane Anderson, age 70 of North Platte went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Mary Jane was born on May 28, 1943 in North Platte, to Adolph and Marjorie Wendeborn. She graduated from Hershey High School with the class of 1961. After high school she married Ralph Anderson and made their home in North Platte.
She made her lifelong career as a respiratory therapist working at hospitals in Nebraska and Arizona providing unconditional love and care for each and every one of her patients. She carried this unconditional love into all of her relationships as wife, mom, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. Her warm smile brought joy to everyone.
Survivors include her husband Ralph of North Platte; 2 daughters Peggy (Jed) Snell of Apple Valley, CA, Debbie (Chuck) Carter of Silverthorne, CO, son Neal Anderson of Farmington, NM; 4 grandchildren Kara (Alex) Bustrum, Logan (Missy) Snell, Mary Beth Anderson, Bryson Anderson; brother Marvin Wendeborn of Squim, WA, sisters Phyllis Nelson of Cozad, Alice Robinson of North Platte, Roxy Martens of North Platte; and numerous other nieces, nephews and friends.
