Hugh W. “Chuck” Duncan II


Hugh Chuck Duncan

Hugh W. “Chuck” Duncan II, age 61 of North Platte passed away February 22, 2014 at the Aurora Medical Center, Aurora, NE. Chuck was born June 25, 1952 in Okinawa, Japan to Hugh W. and Rosalia Aguinaldo Duncan I. The family moved to Seiling, OK and he graduated from there in 1969. After graduation he moved to Omaha, NE and attended Milford Nebraska Technical College graduating in 1972 as a “paste-up” artist. He hired on the Burlington Railroad and later on the Union Pacific Railroad. He also worked at Sandhills Industry and the Sutherland Ethanol Plant. Chuck married Lupe Medrano in 1983. He and his friends started the North Platte Boxing Club in 1977. He loved boxing, music especially Led Zeppelin, and watching sports with his boys. His family was his pride and joy.
Survivors include his wife, Lupe of North Platte; daughters, Olivia (Mario) Guerra, and Glenda Nesslein all of North Platte; sons, Larry (Jessica) Nesslein of North Platte, and Hugh “Chucky” (Shaleen) Nesslein of Aurora, CO; brother, Scott (Marilyn) Duncan of Kansas City, MO; step-sister, Doris Brewer of Council Bluffs, IA; step-brothers, Meryl (Marilyn) Dyer of Chesapeake, VA, and Dave (Rita) of Kansas City, MO; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Reverend Ralph Dyer; mother and father-in-law, Elisa and Tereso Medrano; brother-in-law, Fred Nehls; sister-in-law, Juanita Tarango; 2 great nieces; and a great nephew.

Doris Helen Bauer


Doris

Doris Helen Bauer, age 103, of North Platte, NE, went to Heaven in her sleep on Friday, February 28, 2014, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.

Doris was the second of four children born to Amos R.Ellsworth, a rural mail carrier, and Ella Evans Ellsworth. She was born November 12, 1910, at Hershey, NE where she was raised with her sister, Ferne, and brother, Richard “Dick”. Doris’ sister, Grace, passed away as a small child.

When she was young, Doris was a Campfire Girl in Hershey and later lead a group in North Platte. Doris was secretary of her senior class and graduated from Hershey High School in 1929. Doris and Ferne always remained in contact with their classmates and those of their brother.

On November 2, 1933, Doris married Joseph Andrew Bauer of Ravenna, NE in North Platte. They lived in North Platte and Doris stayed in her home until she was 101 years old. Family was important to Doris and Joe and they opened their home to others when they needed a place to stay. They also loved dancing; it was the most fun they ever had. They belonged to the Winter Dance Club and traveled all over to attend dances with their friends.

In time Doris and Joe began to visit the Batie Family’s Rustic Cabin in Glen Haven, CO. They stayed for their vacations enjoying the cabin’s swinging bridge, screened-in porch and old-fashioned kitchen. They loved Glen Haven so much they eventually decided to go “up the mountain” and purchased their own mountain home. Friends, family and even Doris’ parents would come see them for an afternoon, a day or an overnighter. The beauty of their outdoor life was very special to Doris.

Doris was a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church. She was baptized at the Hershey Presbyterian Church which she attended until the pastor retired and the church closed. Doris was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in North Platte for 68 years and was the oldest member. She taught Sunday School, was active in Church Circle and other activities.

Doris also belonged to the “Pink Ladies”, BPOE Does and Lady Engineers. She loved to be with people and be “on the go” no matter what the weather. Doris loved knitting, crocheting, painting ceramics and was known for her homemade toffee and chili sauce.

Bridge was Doris’ game. She always belonged to several bridge clubs and played until she was nearly 100. She also loved bowling, card games, board games and solving difficult crossword puzzles. She enjoyed reading and sharing books with friends. Doris loved Nebraska Volleyball and the Hershey Panthers. She went to all the games at Bill Wood Field and liked going to the stock car races.

Doris was affectionately known as “Dodo” and will be missed by her nephews, Stan (Carol) Ellsworth, of Hugo, CO and Larry Besack, of Greeley, CO; great-nieces, Cheryl, Becky and Christine, all of Colorado; a great-nephew, Jim Besack; great great-nephews, Zack and Matthew; a great great-niece, Sarah; her special cousin, Pat Evans (Ernie) Schuster, of Hershey, and their daughters, Sara Jo Schuster, of Kansas City, MO and Stefani Schuster and her daughter, Lily, of Kearney, NE; and other family and many friends.

Those who have gone before Doris include her husband, Joe; grandparents, Aaron J. and Meldia J. Evans and Joseph R. and Eliza Ellsworth; her parents, Amos and Ella Ellsworth; sisters, Grace Ellsworth and Ferne (Fritz) Besack; and a brother, Richard (Florence) Ellsworth.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Polly K. Deppen-Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the North Platte Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore which is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may also be shared at odeanchapel.com. Edward D. “Eddie” Dimmitt

Edward D. “Eddie” Dimmitt, age 68, of North Platte, passed away on February 25, 2014 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. He was born on December 7, 1945 in Broken Bow to Otis J. and A. LaVonne (Brazier) Dimmitt. Eddie grew up in Crofton, NE and moved with his family to North Platte in 1964. He graduated from North Platte High School in 1964. Eddie married Linda Macomber on June 14, 1966 at the First Christian Church in North Platte. The couple made their home in North Platte where Eddie starting working for Hinky Dinky before hiring out with the UPPR as a Carman. He retired from the railroad in 2006 after 37 years of service.
Eddie spent many years coaching his boys’ sports and following their activities as well as his grandchildren’s activities. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports, playing poker, and horse racing. Eddie was a member of the UP Employees Club #8, and was a board member of the Buffalo Bill Booster Club.
Survivors include his wife Linda of North Platte; 2 sons, Eddie (Kathy) Dimmitt of Grand Island, and Kevin (Annie) Dimmitt of North Platte; 2 brothers, Richard (Sharon) Dimmitt of Gandy, and Gary (Ellen) Dimmitt of North Platte; a brother-in-law, Richard Beed of North Platte; 4 grandchildren, Regan, Taryn, Peyton, and Abby; and numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Donneita Beed and Linda Eaves; and a brother-in-law Gordon Eaves.

Services will be 2:00 pm Saturday March 1, 2014 at the First Christian Church in North Platte with the Rev. Tim Adams officiating. Cremation will take place after the services. Don Paul Beckmann

Don Paul Beckmann, age 78 of North Platte, passed away February 24, 2014.

Don was born November 3, 1935 in Chapman, NE to Frederick “Fritz” and Rose (Ruff) Beckmann. He grew up there and graduated from high school in 1954. He served in the US Army from 1955 until 1957. He married Virjean Irvine and to this union 3 children were born, Doug, Dale and Diane. He worked as a Brakeman on the UPRR for 38 years, retiring in 1993. On June 1, 1987 he married Lynette Call. Don was a member of UTU, RSVP, Telephone Pioneers and the Eagles Club. He and his brother Dan had their own polka band, “The Polka Playboys”, in Grand Island. He was a delivery driver for over 20 years for Meals On Wheels and received the Golden Senior Award in 2008. He was a people person who enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, shooting pool and helping others.

Don is survived by his wife Lynette; children Doug (Deb) Beckmann of North Platte, Dale (Terri) Beckmann of Golden, CO, and Diane Beckmann of Gainesville, TX; brother Dan (Lois) Beckmann of North Platte; stepchildren Charlene Dunn (Larry Kuhlmann) and Julian (Lynda) Jarvis; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother Leroy; mother-in-law Ellen Call; and stepson Chris Jarvis.

Veronica A. Englert, age 83, of North Platte, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. She was born January 25, 1931 at Anselmo, NE to Ira and Katherine (Powers) Green. She graduated from Anselmo High School and attended Chadron State College. On June 2, 1953 she was united in marriage to Harold Englert in Anselmo. They lived in Colorado for 18 years before moving to North Platte in 1973. Veronica was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and VFW Auxiliary Post 8544 in Dunning. Survivors include her son, Dwight (Pamela) Englert of North Platte; her daughter, Genevieve (Darrell) Billingsley of Whitman; brother, Dale (Phyllis) Green of Sargent; sister, Elizabeth (Bernard) Neville of Kearney; brother-in-law, Dewayne Weaver of Fremont; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, three brothers, William, Donald, and Joseph Green twin-sister, Monica Weaver. Memorials are suggested to the North Platte Catholic Schools Endowment Fund. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Burial will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery. Rosary will be 7:00 pm Tuesday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. On Feb. 16, 2014, Jacqueline “Jackie” Kay Boe, a wonderful loving mother, and great friend to many passed away at the young age of 56.
She was born to Frank and Elsie Foster on Jan. 12, 1958. Jacqueline spent her life in North Platte as a loving housewife and mother.
Jacqueline was a resilient woman who loved to cook, dance and spend nights on the town with friends. She will be most remembered by her million-dollar smile that bought happiness, love and laughter to many. She always looked to spread the best joys of life and the good in every life event.
Jacqueline is survived by six children, Brent (Lori Luft) Boe, Joshua (Savannah Higdon) Boe, Drescena (Fred Kohl) Boe, Sophia Boe, Jasmine Boe and Christopher Boe, all of North Platte; eight beautiful grandchildren, Avanna, Brenttyn, Leigha, Ohner, Devynn, Chantz, Isiacc and Kirtsttyn. Also survived by Dennis Boe, Kevin Anthony; her aunts and uncles; sisters and brothers; nieces and nephews; and many friends who love her dearly.
Jacqueline is preceded in death by her father; mother; sister, Holly; son, Dennis Joseph; and grandson, Isaiah.
There are not enough words to describe the unconditional love and powerful influence Jacqueline has had on her family and friends. She has touched the lives of many and will never be forgotten.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., today, Adams and Swanson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Kilian (Kevin) Joseph Sullivan

Kilian (Kevin) Joseph Sullivan of Washington DC passed away on February 9, 2014. He was born October 2, 1955 to Mary Virginia (Schleuter) Sullivan and Michael Paul Sullivan in North Platte, NE. He attended McDaid Elementary and graduated from North Platte High School in 1974. He entered Conception Seminary College in Conception, MO and graduated in May, 1978 with a B.A. degree in music. He attended St. Thomas Seminary in Denver, CO for 1 year before entering the novitiate of Conception Abbey in 1979 and professed vows in 1980 taking the name of Brother Kilian. He attended St. Meinrad Seminary, St Meinrad, IN, graduating in 1989 with a Masters in Divinity degree and was ordained in May 1989.

Kilian then studied at Catholic University in Washington DC and received another degree in liturgical studies and music and returned to Conception Abbey where he taught music in the seminary and was very involved with the students and student liturgy. He later left Conception, returning to Washington DC where he was involved in directing musical liturgy and was a choir member of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. He was privileged to travel to Rome with the choir and performed solo for Pope John Paul II. At the time of his death he was involved with music ministry and employed by the Dept. of Commerce, Division of Public Affairs in Washington DC.

He is survived by eight siblings and their families, sisters, Elizabeth (DeWayne) Lancaster of Cody, NE, Julia (Mike) Merrill of West Haven, UT, and Angela (Steve) Harwick of Hastings, NE; brothers, Patrick (Cornelia) of Omaha, Philip (Debbie) of Suffolk, VA, Thomas (Kathy), and twin brother, Kelly all of North Platte, and John (Lisa) of Grand Junction, CO and all their children and grandchildren.

Kilian was preceded in death by his parents.

Jack DeCent

Jack W. DeCent Jr., age 63 of Hershey passed away February 20, 2014 at his home. He was born August 1, 1950 in Gary, Indiana to Jack W and Emily Louie DeCent Sr. Jack grew up in Gary, Indiana and moved to North Platte with his family. He entered the United States Army, serving a tour in Vietnam and a short time in Germany. After his discharge he returned to North Platte and worked as a painter for Clarence Watkins. He later worked for the John A. Gentleman Power Plant and then hired on the Union Pacific Railroad as a machinist, retiring due to health reasons. He was united in marriage to Vickie Cochran on March 3, 1974 in North Platte, to this union 4 children were born, Crystal, Jack III, Joe and Jason.
Jack was a member of the American Legion and a past member of Our Lady of Guadelupe Catholic Church in Hershey. He loved riding his motorcycle, racing, camping, fishing and hunting with family, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Vickie of Hershey; children, Stephanie Bass, Crystal (Cole Schomp) DeCent of Hershey, Jack III (Tracy Moon) DeCent, Joe DeCent , and Jason (Hannah) DeCent all of North Platte; siblings, Lloyd DeCent of North Platte, Vivian (Kevin) Pietre, Joyce (Perry) Thompson all of Sutherland, David DeCent of Omaha, Brenda Hansen of Sutherland, and Danny DeCent; other family members, Robert (Peggy) DeCent of Sutherland, Barb (Brook) Hoover of Cheyenne, WY, and Richard DeCent of Hershey; grandchildren, Victoria, Jewel, Dakota, Matthew, Brandon, Bruce, Breanna, and Kayden; special friends, Danny and Bert Mills of North Platte; and numerous other family members and friends.
