Josephine Caroline Loya

Josephine Caroline Loya, age 83 of Chandler, AZ, formerly of North Platte, passed away October 1, 2013 at the Banner Gardens Hospice House in Mesa, AZ.
Josie was born on August 19, 1930 in Walsonburg, CO to Victorio and Maria (Lujan) Martinez. When she was young she moved with her family to Hershey where she attended school. Josie then moved to Sutherland where she met Nicholas Loya. The couple was married on March 1, 1945 in North Platte. They lived in Sutherland before moving to North Platte in 1957. Josie worked at Allen’s Self Service and at Woolworths. Her husband Nicholas passed away on March 22, 1988. Josie moved to Arizona in 1993.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church when she lived in North Platte, and enjoyed crocheting, reading, and doing crafts. Josie loved to spend time and play with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include five children Henry (Georgia) Loya of Topeka, KS, Lupe Loya of Puyallup, WA, Maria Loya of Chandler, AZ, Ernie Loya of North Platte, and Kathy Torres of Chandler, AZ; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 2 grandsons Carlos Loya and David Torres; a great-grandson Logan Loya; and 3 sisters and their husbands.

Patricia Dianne Romero

Patricia Dianne (Spencer) Romero, age 62 of North Platte, passed away October 5, 2013.
Patricia was born on August 25, 1951 in Grant, NE to Harl Halbert and Elizabeth (Real) Spencer. She grew up in Ogallala and graduated from high school in 1969. Later in her life she attended Mid Plains community College. She worked at American Suzuki and Union 76 in Ogallala. She was engaged to Joe Torres and to this union Denisa was born. She married Frank Courter in 1971 and the couple lived in North Platte. To this union Troyce and Lashell were born. She became engaged to Larry Breece and to this union Ragan Courter was born. She married Jesus Romero in 1977 and the couple had 2 children, Jessica and Sofia.
Patricia is survived by her mother Elizabeth Spencer of Sutherland, NE; 6 children Denisa (Bert) Davis of North Platte, Troyce (Christina) Courter of North Platte, Lashell Courter of Chappell, NE, Ragan (Melanie) Courter of North Platte, Jessica Romero of North Platte and Sofia Brandt of North Platte; 18 grandchildren; 1 great grand child; 1 brother Kent (Yvonne) Spencer of Des Moines, IA; her beloved baby cat Speckle Puss; and numerous other family members and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Harl; and long-time friend Bloyce Balderson.

Zachery Chase Tyrell

Zachery Chase Tyrell, our beautiful red headed son, passed away October 2, 2013. He lived a short, yet wonderful, 8 years. Zachery was a third grader in the wonderful community of Sutherland, NE. He touched the hearts of all who knew him. His laugh would light up the whole room; his smile was as bright as his red hair. Zach loved to play with his big brother: cars, video games, soccer, football, bike riding, they were always together. Zachery loved to annoy his sisters and hated to clean his room. He loved to go fishing with his daddy and pick on his mom because he was so much better at video games than her! He had so much love to give, even the animals would sleep with him at night. The world is short an angel and the heavens have gained an amazing boy that will be remembered always and forever. He will be missed.
Zachery is survived by his father Charlie Tyrell; his mother Zenobia Tyrell; brother Cashous Tyrell; sisters Ziyanne Tyrell and Angel Dean; grandparents Carolyn Crow, Shirley Bailey, Butch Henderson and Kenneth Dean; aunts and uncles Chris and Mandi Crow, Henry and Elaine Henderson, James Bailey, Tron Stover, Brenda Randall, Roger Allen and Michael Allen; great grandparents Mary and Larry Allen; cousins Chasity and Matthew Dominguez and many more cousins, relatives and friends.

Joe Roueche

Joe Roueche, age 57 of Hershey, perished at the home of his trusted friends October 3, 2013.
He was born in 1956 in Sutherland to Floyd and Wilma Roueche. He grew up in and around the area and worked in Wyoming at the Soda Ash mines for many years. When he returned to Hershey in 1994 he was employed by Western Engineering, Hershey Flying Service and the Village of Hershey.
Joe is survived by his two sons Jacob and Joshua Roueche; sisters Coleen and Sherri; and many other relatives and friends.
He knew the loss of his parents; brother Ron and sister Shandra; among other friends and family.
In place of a memorial, it is his hope that his death will inspire you to try a little tenderness for someone in your life.

Barbara L. Ruser

Barbara L. Ruser, age 83 of North Platte, NE passed away at her home on October 2, 2013.
Barbara was born September 1, 1930 in Ogallala, NE to Jack and Edith Sarah (Warford) Cassen. She grew up there and graduated from Ogallala High School in 1948. On April 20, 1952 Barbara married Dick Ruser. To this union three children were born: Kevin Lee, Cynthia Joyce and Cathy Sue. Dick and Barbara made their home on a farm northwest of Grant, NE. She was a farm wife and managed the family farm until her death. She also worked for 20 years at TRW in Ogallala. After retiring she enjoyed her favorite pastime of supporting her grandchildren in all their activities. She was an avid NE Cornhusker fan and attended many football games. After Dick’s death in 1974, Barbara made her home in Grant for the next 33 years; she then moved to North Platte.
Barbara is survived by her children Kevin (Vanessa) Ruser of Lincoln, NE, Cindi (John) Kennedy of Eaton, CO and Cathy (Leland) Poppe of North Platte; 8 grandchildren Sean (Debi) Kennedy of Northglen, CO, Stuart Kennedy of Denver, CO, Natasha Ruser of Chicago, IL, Sophia (David) Ruser of Albuquerque, NM, Ethan and Ellie Ruser-Pertusa of Lincoln, NE, Rick and Natalie Poppe of North Plate, NE; and 1 great-granddaughter Audrey Sage Kennedy of Northglen, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Edith Cassen, and her husband Dick Ruser.

Everett Blevins

Everett Blevins, 96, of North Platte, NE, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Cozad, NE.

Everett was born July 1, 1917, to Frank and Opal Jenkens Blevins at North Platte. He grew up in Stapleton, NE and after his education moved to North Platte where he worked as a mechanic. Everett joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and proudly served his country while stationed in Europe during W.W.II. Following his discharge in 1945 he returned to North Platte where he drove a truck for Denver-Chicago (DC) Trucking. Everett bought a Mobile station in Maxwell, NE in 1949 and operated it as Skelly Gas Station until he retired from there in 1981.

On January 1, 1951, Everett married Alice Katherine Cochran Scott in North Platte and they made their home in Maxwell. Following his retirement they moved to North Platte where Everett refurbished antique furniture, raised a garden and took care of many yards. He was also a member the Maxwell American Legion.

He is survived by a son, Virgil (Linda) Scott, of North Platte; three grandchildren, Todd (Dana) Scott, of North Platte, Travis (Kim) Scott, of Lee Summit, MO, and T.J. Scott of Omaha, NE; nine great-grandchildren, Corey, Cortney, Summer, Tysen, Aubry, Matt, Ashley, Brittany and Jessica; five great great-grandchildren, RJ, Wyatt, Billy, Grace and Zoe; a sister, Dorothy (Ralph) Dirksen, of Shawnee Mission, KS; many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Everett was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; his parents, Frank and Opal; a sister, Darlene Collins; and five brothers, Earl, Warren, Alvin, Melvin and Robert Blevins.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Harold Rhea officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Maxwell American Legion. Nellie “Doris” (Marshall) Haswell

Nellie “Doris” (Marshall) Haswell, 83, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 28, 2013.
She was born on Sept. 29, 1929, in Fullerton, to Benjamin and Elenora Marshall.
Doris married Kenneth “Red” Cobb on May 26, 1946, together they had five children. She was a great wife and mother.
She later settled down in North Platte, where she met James “JR” Haswell. They were married on Oct. 5, 1987. Doris really enjoyed dancing, visiting and spending time with her grandkids.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Hancock, of Grand Island, and Connie (Allen) Folsom, of Haltom City, Texas; two sons, Sketter (Kathy) Cobb, of Cambridge, and David (Tara) Cobb, of North Platte; a sister, Jean Driefholt, of North Platte; 17 grandkids; 26 great-grandkids; and one great-great-grandson.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at the Paxton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-6 p.m., today and Friday, at Carpenter memorial Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements.

Berdeen Marie Yost Thorpe

Berdeen Marie Yost Thorpe, 86, of Sutherland, NE, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at the Sutherland Care Center.

Berdeen was born February 19, 1927, in Dundy County, NE to John and Frances Louella Donze. She was baptized in the Frenchman River at Hamlet, NE and grew up in Dundy County where she attended grade school then moved to Hitchcock County, NE and graduated from Wauneta High School in 1944.

Berdeen married William “Bill” Yost on August 6, 1945. To this union three sons were born: Jonathan Daniel Yost, Ronald Duane Yost and Randy Lou Yost. They moved to Sutherland in 1956. Her husband Bill preceded her in death in 1973. Berdeen worked at Good-Alls and T.R.W. for almost 22 years.

On June 24, 1977, Berdeen married George Robert Thorpe in North Platte, NE.

Survivors include her husband, George Thorpe, of Omaha, NE; her sons, Dan Yost, of Hastings, NE, Ron (Doris) Yost, of Alliance, NE and Randy (Dora) Yost, of Sterling, CO; two grandsons, Kyle (Kari) Yost, of Omaha, NE and Kipp (Mindy) Yost, of Castle Rock, CO; four great-grandsons, Peyton, Carson, and Brady Yost of Castle Rock, CO and Nolan Yost, of Omaha, NE; a stepdaughter, Maxine Newcomb, of Cambridge, Nebraska; and other family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Frances Donze; her husband, Bill Yost; a sister, Darlene McCollum; a daughter-in-law, Dee Yost; and stepdaughter, Jean Fleming.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2013, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore in North Platte with Rev. Dr. Douglas A. Delp officiating. Linda K. Broge

Linda K. Broge, 70, of North Platte, passed away September 29, 2013, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center after a valiant battle with cancer.
She was born on April 23, 1943, to Foster and Gertrude (Rose) Broge in Monroe, Wisconsin. She and her family moved to Sutherland, Nebraska, in 1952. Linda graduated from Sutherland High School in 1961. She attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, receiving her BA in 1965. She received her MA from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1967. She taught government and psychology at North Platte High School from 1967 until her retirement in 2000.
Linda was a member of the Sutherland Methodist Church, the Eastern Star in Lincoln, the NEA, NSEA, and NPEA as well as many other professional organizations. She was a member of the North Platte Public Library Advisory Board and the North Platte Public Library Foundation Board until her health no longer permitted this.
Linda loved photography, travel, needle work, flowers, but she especially had a passion for books and the North Platte Public Library and the Library Foundation.
She is survived by her sister, Jan (Paul) Goosey of North Platte; brother, Craig (Lori) Broge of Sutherland; nephews, Marcus and Matthew Goosey of North Platte; her aunts, Fern Rose of Phoenix, AZ, Gloria Frey (Lincoln); and many cousins and friends.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; and numerous other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the North Platte Public Library Foundation and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.
Cremation was chosen. Linda’s memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 3, at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home with Father Jeffrey Nelson officiating. Inurnment will be at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.
