Gladys Ann Duggan

Gladys Ann Duggan, 70, of Hershey, NE, passed away Monday, July 8, 2013, at her home north of Hershey surrounded by her family.

Gladys was born October 2, 1942, in Bell City, MO to Charles Ray and Ora Kathryn Simmons Lawrence. Since her father was a logger, she grew up between Missouri and Idaho. Gladys’ favorite place on this earth was Featherville, ID.

On October 13, 1963, Gladys married Gerald Wayne Duggan in Boise, ID. They moved to Hershey and worked for Fred Hoatson. In February 1965 they moved back to Idaho where Gladys was a telephone operator with Mountain Bell. They returned to Hershey in 1972 where Gerald farmed with his brother and Gladys worked at Williams Husky Truck Stop as a cashier. She spent the next 35 years working at the Tomahawk in North Platte and the Hershey Truck Stop and the Western Convenience Truck Stop at Hershey, as a cashier and eventually bookkeeper. In the past year, she worked at the Lincoln Connection in North Platte and most recently at the Senior Center in Hershey.

Gladys was a member of the Hershey Baptist Church where she served as treasurer.

Survivors include her daughter, Michelle Grier, of North Platte, NE; two sons, Kenneth (Jacqueline) Duggan, of Fort Morgan, CO and Dale (Shanna) Duggan, of Hershey; seven grandchildren, Zachary (Holli), Ellen, Kaitlin, Evan, Hope, Eric and Ethan; her mother, Ora Kathryn Lawrence, of Boise, ID; three brothers, Lloyd (Terry), James (Char) and Robert (Cathy) Lawrence, all of Idaho; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Duggan; and her father, Charles Lawrence.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, at the Hershey Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in the Dickens Cemetery in Dickens, NE. Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore. Condolences may also be shared at odeanchapel.com. Loran Lee Parks

Loran Lee Parks, 74, of North Platte, NE, passed away at home on Friday, July 5, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.

Loran was born April 2, 1939, at Page, NE to Earl Raymond “Scoop” and Christina Charlotte Ulry Parks. He grew up in the Page community and attended rural school at District 110 for eight years then graduated from Page High School in 1956. Loran attended Telegraph School then hired out with the Union Pacific Railroad at Grand Island, NE on April 1, 1957.

Loran served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964 and was based in Missouri, North Carolina and Georgia where he was a Radioman in the Signal Corp. While in Georgia Loran married Marthaleen “Marti” Rae Empfield on November 24, 1963, at Callaway, NE. To this union three sons were born, David, Douglass and Darren. Upon his discharge Loran returned to the Union Pacific Railroad as a Depot Agent at Callaway. In 1977 he was promoted to Train Dispatcher and worked in North Platte and Omaha, NE at the Harriaman Dispatch Center. He retired from the railroad in 1994. He also owned Master Dry Cleaners from 1985 to 1989.

Loran attended Bethel Evangelical Free Church, was a member of the American Legion P.R. Halligan Post #163 and Eagles Aries #2839 and was an Admiral in the Nebraska Navy. Loran enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a guide on the One Box Pheasant Hunt for 12 years. He also enjoyed carpentry work.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Marthaleen, of North Platte, three sons, David Parks and Douglass (Anna) Parks, of North Platte and Darren (Melissa) Parks, of Belleville, IL; six grandchildren, Bretton, Matthew, Christopher and Samara Parks, Jackie Kuessner and Rachael Sansaucie; a brother, Clair Parks, of Kalispell, MT; his sister, Valjean (Floyd) Boyes, of Nickerson, NE; eight nieces; eight nephews; and other family.

Loran was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Christina Parks; a grandson, Devon Parks; his daughter-in-law, David’s wife, Betty Parks; a sister-in-law, Clair’s wife, Jean Parks; a niece; and two nephews.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Bethel Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Brett Terry officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore. Genevieve M. Newman

Genevieve M. Newman, 97, of North Platte and formerly of Maxwell, died July 4, 2013. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Frank Fitch officiating. Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel from 1-6 pm and Monday from 9 am to 5 pm.

Mary C. Freier

Mary C. Freier, 67, of North Platte passed away July 3, 2013 at Centennial Park Retirement Village. Cremation was chosen. Memorial services will be at a later date. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

E. Almina “Mina” German

E. Almina “Mina” German, age 89 of North Platte passed away Tuesday July 2, 2013.
Mina was born on January 14, 1924 in North Platte to Elmer and Emma (Burch) Smith. She grew up in the North Platte area. She married Fred German on March 2, 1962 in Chappell. She worked as a head cook at several restaurants in North Platte, including the Holiday Inn and the Char Bar. She was a member of the 1st Assembly of God Church, she enjoyed cooking for family and friends and was an excellent cook and pie baker.
Mina is survived by her children Dyanne (Robert) Olson, Alice (Dave) Asbell, Sharon (Harold) Geyer, Flora (Dennis) Petersen, Charles (Andrea) German, Shirley (Dennis) Patterson; brothers Waldo (Leona) Smith, Sidney (Bonnie) Smith, Leo (Betty) Smith, George Smith; sister Anna (Jack) Hayford; 24 grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Fred; son Elbert “Butch” Walker in 1968; daughter and her husband Twila and Charles Kirbey, Sr.; grandson Otto Lewis; 2 son-in-laws Joe Lewis and Darold Morrison; great grand daughter Desiree Vinson; brothers Francis Smith and Earl Smith; and sister Luella Cluck.

Jo Ann Yonker

Jo Ann Yonker, 79, of North Platte, NE, passed away Monday, July 1, 2013, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

Jo Ann was born January 3, 1934 to Wallace H. and Elizabeth Barr Geiger at North Platte. When Jo Ann was little she lived in Banning, CA then returned to North Platte to live with her aunt and uncle, Lucille and George Luedke. She graduated from North Platte High School in 1951 then went to work for First National Bank and later was a bookkeeper for McDonald State Bank. Jo Ann also worked for Banker’s Life, was a bookkeeper for York Hinman and worked for Kings Food Host for several years before starting her own business, Animals By Jo Ann, where she made stuffed animals. She also made teddy bears for the Nebraska State Patrol Medi Teddy Program which gave them away to traumatized children.

On December 30, 1953, Jo Ann married Clayton Kenneth Yonker at Julesburg, CO and they made their home in North Platte. Along with raising their three daughters, Jo Ann and Clayton helped with foster children who were sent to the Snow Redfern Boys Ranch in Alliance, NE.

Jo Ann was a member and lay minister of the Episcopal Church of Our Savior and member and past president of the Daughters of the King. She was also a member and past president of Altrusa International and a charter member of the Velvet Spurs Riding Club. Jo Ann helped with the Goodfellows Shoe Fund and volunteered for the Salvation Army and Red Cross. She also loved her garden and especially her roses.

She is survived by her husband, Clayton, of North Platte; two daughters, Linda (Jay) Colburn, of Sutherland, NE, and Boni (Lynn) Hothan, of Hershey, NE; six grandchildren, Melissa (Barrey) Konicek, Keri (Levi) Fisher, Amanda (Aaron) Brandes, Brenda Boggs, Will (Sharley) Cleveland and Chelsea Jury; six great-grandchildren, Sage and Devin Konicek, Mekenna and Peyton Fisher, Hope Boggs and Danica Cleveland; a sister, Jerry (Todd) Langston, of Concord, CA; a niece, two nephews and other family.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl Yonker; her parents, Wallace and Elizabeth Geiger; and a sister, Odessa Geiger.

Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2013, at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior with Father Jeffrey Nelson officiating. Her cremains will be placed in the Episcopal Columbarium. Judy Carolyn Stroud

Judy Carolyn Stroud, 59, of North Platte, NE, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013, at her home in North Platte.

Judy was born April 3, 1954, at Oklahoma City, OK to Floyd Ralph and Iva Mae Barker Martin. She grew up and attended school in Oklahoma City and Elk City, OK. She later attended beauty school in Texas.

In 1987 Judy married Roger Stroud in Texas and they moved to North Platte the following year where she owned Hair Benders. Judy went back to Oklahoma in 1996 to care for her mother then returned to North Platte in 2012 for health reasons and to be near her daughter.

Survivors included her daughter, Brandy (David) Bogus, of North Platte; two sons, Johnny (Judy) Shores, of Iowa Park, TX and James Shores, of Colorado; seven grandchildren, Christopher (Alexa) Stroud, Hailey Krupa, James Stroud, Creed Bogus, Bryce Shores, Kailee Wenner and Brandon Theme; a great-granddaughter, Tatum Wenner; her sisters, Viola (Lane) Romero and Vicki Gaither, of Elk City, OK; two brothers, Wayne (Connie) Martin, of Oklahoma City and Danny (Cheryl) Martin, of Enid, OK; several nieces, nephews and other family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Iva and Floyd Martin; brother, Eddie Martin; a nephew, Stevie Ray Martin; and her special friend, Jimmy Lucas.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2013, at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery north of Hershey. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and prior to the service on Friday at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore which is in charge of arrangements. Emil Charles Alberts

Emil Charles Alberts, 79, resident of Gothenburg, NE, died June 26, 2013 at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 15, 1933 on the family farm north of Gothenburg, NE, son of Charlie and Hilway (Haddad) Alberts.

Emil graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1951. On November 3, 1955, he joined the army and served his country until he was honorable discharged on June 26, 1957.

On January 18, 1973, Emil married Lois Vickers at the First United Methodist Church in Gothenburg, NE.

In 2005 Emil was elected into the Dawson CO. Cattleman Hall of Fame, for his life long dedication to his herd of high-quality Hereford and crossbred cattle.

Emil was always proud that he was born on his dad’s farm north of Gothenburg and was able to live there all his life except for the two years he spent in the service, stationed in Germany. He loved to work with cattle and trapping. He had a special place in his heart for his horses, especially Babe and Joker, and his dogs, Spotty, Daisy, Honey. Emil had a green thumb, and was known as the Watermelon Man to many as well as his home grown cantaloupe. Emil was a faithful giver of blood to the Red Cross until they could no longer find a vein, at last tally he was over 13 gallons donated.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Lois Alberts, step-daughters, Shirley Logan, Karen Mann, Janet Jenkins all of Gothenburg, NE; brother, George C.(Rosemary) Alberts of Gothenburg, NE; sister, Bessie (Tony) Shada of Kearney, NE; sister-in-law Cleta Alberts of Aurora, NE; nephews Mark Alberts, Mike Alberts, Dan Alberts, David Shada, Gary Shada; nieces Cindy Burns, Cheryl Irwin, Mary Rivett, Toni Ann Jackson; six step-grandchildren, 15 step- great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.

Emil was preceded in death by his parents, Hilway and Charlie Alberts, brothers Jesse Alberts, Alfred Alberts, Johnny Alberts, nephew, Lane Alberts, and step-son Mike Jenkins.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Sunday, June 30, 2013 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the family present from 2-4pm..

Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, July 1, 2013 at 10:30 am, with Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating.

Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Francis L. “Fritz” Rudloff, age 99 of North Platte, died June 27, 2013 at Linden Court. Rosary will be 7:00 pm Monday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel .Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Joseph Patrick “Pete” Klosen

Joseph Patrick “Pete” Klosen, Jr., 71, of Stapleton passed away June 26, 2013 at his home. He was born September 15, 1941 in North Platte to Joseph Patrick and Patricia (Harrahill) Klosen Sr.
He graduated from Stapleton High School in 1959 and attended college at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, CO, graduating with an Agribusiness Degree. He returned home to the family farm in Stapleton. On August 19, 1967 he married Stella G. Perlinger in Paxton, NE.
Pete was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, past school board member and past Co-Op board member. He loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s events and activities.
Survivors include his wife, Stella of Stapleton; children, Kelly Grauerholz of North Platte, Nick (Deanna) Klosen of Stapleton, Angie (Joel) Beavers of Overton, NE and John (Danielle) Klosen of Dodge, NE; grandchildren, Shelby, Kayla and Morgan Klosen, Madison and Mackenzie Beavers, Caitlin, McKenna and Colton Klosen; sisters, Ann Rose and Janet (Dennis) Knudson all of Omaha; and numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
