David Eugene Hora

David Eugene Hora, age 85 of Ringgold, NE, passed away Friday October 5, 2018 at Great Plains Health in North Platte.

Dave was born July 29, 1933 in North Platte to Vincent and Charlotte (Conger) Hora.  He grew up on the Hora homestead southwest of Ringgold.  He attended elementary country school at Ringgold and graduated from Stapleton Baker Rural High School with the class of 1950.  He entered into a ranching partnership with his father and they continued to operate Hora & Hora until the time of his father’s death.  Dave married Jean A. Smith on September 26, 1964 in Climbing Hill, IA.  The couple lived south of Ringgold where they worked together on the ranch and fed cattle.  He continued to purchase cattle to feed up until the time of his death.  He was a leather craftsman and along with braided items, he made several saddles and numerous western items.  He worked his entire life to support missionaries around the world and loved horses and working on the ranch.  He attended Parkview Community Church of the Nazarene in North Platte.

Dave is survived by his sisters Charlotte (Don) Leeds of Kearney, NE and Mary (Byron) Eatinger of Thedford, NE; nephews Wayne (Roxanne) Eatinger of Thedford, NE, Dale (Linda) Eatinger of Cozad, NE, Wayne ( Marcia) Hora of Stapleton, NE and Tom (Roseanna) Burch of Ashland City, TN; nieces Donna (Robert) Cook of Ord, NE, Donita (Dan) Stewart of Lexington, NE, Marie (Cotton) Harrison of El Reno, OK, and Kathy (Rick) Grell of Sandy, UT; as well as several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jean Hora; parents Vincent and Charlotte Hora; brothers Francis “Frank” Hora and Thomas Hora.

Lynn Bernel Willits

Lynn Bernel Willits, age 97 of North Platte, passed away Thursday October 4, 2018 at Great Plains Health.

Lynn was born September 22, 1921 in Grand Island, NE to Claude and Mary (Mendenhall) Willits.  He graduated from Grand Island High School in 1939 and joined the US Navy in 1941.  He served as a radioman 1st Class aboard various ships in the Atlantic and Pacific during the threats of WWII.  He was honorably discharged in 1945.  When he returned from the Navy, he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad as a telegrapher clerk.  He branched out, working in Grand Island, Marysville, KS, Kansas City, KS and North Platte as a train dispatcher, retiring in 1981.  He also worked part time as a carpenter. He enjoyed working with youth and coached baseball and basketball.  He also played golf, enjoyed reading, watching sports and was a loyal Husker fan.  He married Betty Thompson in 1942.  Betty passed away in 1983.  He married Betty Rea in 1985.  Lynn was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.  He was a founding member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church coat closet and the food pantry.

Lynn is survived by his sons Jim (Martha) Willits of Loveland, CO, Tom (Ann) Willits of Denver, CO, and Bob (Colleen) Willits of Cheyenne, WY; step children Dennis (Ginger) Rea of Huntersville, NC, Mary (Bob) Trujillo of Avondale, AZ, Steven (Carol) Rea of North Platte and Mike (Dicki) Rea of Grand Island, NE; 9 grandchildren Kelly, Beth, John, Mark, Jenney, Collette, Mike, Jeff and Julie; 15 step grandchildren Steven, Billy, Autumn, Nino, Troy, Heather, Laurie, Julie, Jenny, Chris, Brian, Greg, Kim, Kelly and Katie; 11 great grandchildren; 28 step great grandchildren; 3 step great great grandchildren; as well as other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Claude and Mary Willits; both of wives, Beatrice “Betty” Mae (Thompson) Willits and Bertha “Betty” Magdelene (Wachter) Willits; siblings Inez, Edith and Gordon; and stepson Richard Rea.

Sally M. Jones

Sally M. Jones, 82, of North Platte, passed away October 1, 2018 at Great Plains Health. She was born February 12, 1936 to Elmer and Carletta (Parker) Lintz in Tecumseh, Nebraska. She graduated from Johnson High School, later she attended college at UNL. Sally moved to North Platte in 1960.

Sally was united in marriage to Gary L. Jones on July 17, 1965 in North Platte. She was the staffing coordinator for Great Plains Medical Center in North Platte for over 20 years. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Christian Women’s, Card Club and the Retired Hospital Employees.  In her retirement, her and Gary  enjoyed taking their camper to Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Elizabeth.

Sally is survived by her husband, Gary L. Jones;  sons, Jeff (Mary) Higgins, Jon Higgins, Jim (Lynne) Higgins and a daughter, Juli Barnes;  grandchildren, Amy (Matt) Lynch, Douglas Higgins, Sarah (Billiejo) Cauffman, Zach (Sally) Becker, Emilee Higgins, Kacee Higgins and John (Stevie) Handlin ;  great grandchildren, Quinn Lynch, Mathew Lynch, Chase Cauffman, Carlee Cauffman, Cora Cauffman, Blakely Becker, Bretley Becker and Declynne Handlin;  brothers, Tom (Connie) Lintz and Jack (Dorothy) Lintz.

Katherine “Katie” Wells, 92, of Oklahoma departed peacefully from this world on October 1, 2018 at the home of her daughter, Susan (Scott) Furrow of Wellfleet.

Barbara Lee Hopping

Barbara Lee Hopping, 85, of North Platte, passed away September 29, 2018 at Centennial Park Retirement Village.  She was born January 9, 1933 to Ned and Ellen (Eshleman) Martin at Maxwell.  Barbara graduated from Maxwell High School with the class of “50”.

On June 4, 1950, she was united in marriage to James G. Hopping.  They lived in Maxwell, where she worked as a cosmetologist and opened her home as a coffee house.  They moved to North Platte in 1978.  She was a past member of the Eagles Lodge and V.F.W.  Barbara enjoyed spending time at the lake with her family and watching family sporting events.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1986; her in laws, William and Zelma Hopping; brother, Robert Martin and niece, Julie Martin Williams.

Barbara is survived by two sons, James (Cynthia) Hopping of Damar, KS and Troy (Missy) Hopping of Sutherland; three daughters, Vicki Hopping, Nancy (Tom) Rivera both of North Platte and Jeanne (Brant) Halouska of Alliance; a brother, Michael Martin of Kansas City, MO; sisters in law, Norma Martin of Maxwell, NE, Dee Mitchell of Monroe, OR, Doris Hopping of Albion, NE; 12 grandchildren, John (Sara) McConnell, Brennen (Tabitha) Hopping, Tiffany (Traven) Foster, Bobby Halouska, Ted Halouska, Gia (Nick) Zarek, Maysa (Brenen) Hammond, Andri Halouska, Brantz Halouska, Alexa (Ben) McCall, Joli Hopping and Erica Hopping; six great grandchildren, Jack, Sofia, Riggs, Ledee, Sullivan and Hadlee; and special friend, Ginger Foust Rivera.

Willa Jean Kirts

Willa Jean Kirts, age 80 of North Platte, passed away Friday September 28, 2018 at Bryan Medical Center – East Campus in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Willa was born December 2, 1937, in North Platte, NE to Elmer G. and Regis M. Pease.  She grew up and attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School in North Platte.  She met her husband Dale Kirts at a local skating rink; they married on December 1, 1956 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  Willa was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother devoted to her family. and had a contagious personality overfilled with wit, joy, and laughter that turned strangers she met into lifelong friends.  She was active in PTA while all her children attended school, served as Little League Baseball President, and passionate community member on local, state, and national levels when she served as Executive Director for Parents in Action in Nebraska (PAN), and Standing Together Educating Parents (S.T.E.P.) for drug free youth and prevention.

Willa is survived by her children; Kim Dermer of North Platte, Pam Youngs of North Platte, Jeff (Jennifer Bosche) Kirts of Colorado Springs, CO, Steven (Julie) Kirts of Ames, IA, and Pat (Lana) Kirts of Papillion, NE; grandchildren Matthew Dermer, Jeremy Dermer, Chelsey Spady, Jacob Kirts, Tanner Kirts, Hunter Kirts, Sarah Kirts, Kyle Kirts, Connor Kirts, Spencer Kirts, Haley Kirts, and Landon Kirts; 7 great grandchildren; sister Nancy Cale of Tuscon, AZ, and her children Laurie Litton, and Tony Cale; brother Tim Pease of Tuscon, AZ; as well as other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Regis Pease; husband Dale E. Kirts; daughters Angela, Teresa, and Joanne; Uncle and Aunt Lester and Agatha Langford; cousin Ken Langford; and brother-in-law Larry Cale.

Joyce Olson

Joyce Olson, 90, of North Platte, passed away on Sunday, September 30,
2018, surrounded by her family and friends in North Platte.

Joyce was born November 26, 1927, to Austin J. and Thelma (Thornton)
Riddle on the family farm near Crawford, NE, where she grew up.  She
graduated from Crawford High School in 1945 then worked on and off for
the telephone company until retiring in 1985.

On February 6, 1954, Joyce was united in marriage to Leo W. Olson in Hot
Springs, SD, and they were together until 1981 when Leo died.  Joyce
later married Maynard E. Johnson and he passed away in 1990.

Joyce was a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be missed by all
who knew and loved her.  She is survived by her sons, Robert (Claudia)
Langston, of Lusk, WY, Lance Olson, of Hutchison, KS, and Murray Olson,
of New York City; daughter, Carol (Wayne) Shepherd, of North Platte; 10
grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; as well as many other
relatives and friends.

Besides her husbands, Joyce was preceded in death by her parents;
brother, James; son, Gary Olson; twin infant grandsons; and
granddaughter, Amanda Olson.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at Fort
McPherson National Cemetery.  The casket will be closed.  The guest book

Donna Lavette Clausen Rickett


Donna Lavette Clausen Rickett, of North Platte, passed away at the age
of 77 on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at Linden Court after a short
battle with ALS.

Donna was born April 27, 1941, in North Platte to Gaylord and Leona
Clausen.  She attended school in many places including Scottsbluff,
South Carolina and Indiana then graduated from Hershey High School in
1959.  Donna attended Mid-Plains Community College, was a licensed
Hairdresser and later worked at Country Joy.

Donna married her sweetheart, Capt. Beckley L. Rickett, in 1959 in North
Platte.  In retirement Beck and Donna loved to travel and spoil their
grandkids and great-grandkids.  Donna also enjoyed golfing, fishing,
knitting doing puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Beckley, in 2008; her mother,
father and brothers, Jerry and Steve.

Donna is survived by her sons, Scott (Sandy) Rickett, of Salda, Russia,
Craig (Jill) Rickett, of North Platte, and Max Costner, of Washington;
brother, Mike (Deb) Ziegenhagen, of California; five grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren, all of Washington; brothers-in-law, Gary
(Carolyn) Rickett, of North Platte and Jack (Pam) Rickett, of
Sutherland; and other family. She will also be missed by her special fur
baby, Kamie.

Cremation was chosen and at Donna’s request, a private graveside service
will be held in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Instead of flowers,
Donna’s wish is that you donate to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or do an
unexpected act of kindness for someone in need.  The memorial book may

at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of

Dale Phillip Nordblad

Dale Phillip Nordblad, age 63 of North Platte, passed away Tuesday September 25, 2018 at Great Plains Health.

Dale was born October 17, 1954 in Renton, WA to Irvin Gene and Sandra Dee (Soderquist) Nordblad.  He attended Renton High School and worked as a carpenter for 20 years before moving to North Platte.  He was a man with many titles: loving son, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He had many friends and will be missed by all.

Dale is survived by his mother Sandra; daughters Shannon Nordblad and Rachelle Nordblad; grandchildren Monique, Tazsanay, Jordan, Isaiah, Elijah, Katie, Kaden, Camren, Julian, JayLee; great grandchildren AnnaLee, Dylann, Jrae; and brother David (Elizabeth) Nordblad.

He was preceded in death by his father Irvin; and brother Daniel.
