Jerold James Eldred, age 85, of North Platte, passed away May 12, 2013 at his home. He was born on January 11, 1928 in Kearney, Nebraska to Robert and Veda (Deets) Eldred.
Jerold attended school in Kearney. He worked in the shipyards in California before entering the U.S. Navy where he was a submariner. He returned to North Platte where he hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad where he worked for the next 38 years as a Brakeman and Conductor. Jerold married Maureen Bennett on November 10, 1980. He enjoyed history, westerns, boxing and football. Jerold was also an avid collector of train memorabilia.
Survivors include his wife Maureen of North Platte; four children, Trina (Barry) Smalley of South Carolina, Gene Rundquist of North Platte, Barry (DeAnna) Goen of South Carolina, and Linda (Dale) Larson of North Patte; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and special cousins, Robert “Butch” (Susan) Deets. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Terry Eldred, and a daughter, Pam Eldred Miller. A memorial has been established in his name and online condolences can be made at www.adamsswanson.com.
Services will be 2:00 p.m Wednesday May 15, 2013 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with Chaplain Richard Karr officiating. Zelma Lorine Gaudreault
Zelma Lorine Gaudreault, 87, of Cozad, Nebraska, died April 29, 2013 in Cozad, NE.
She was born June 10, 1925 in Winder, GA, daughter of William Preston and Bertha Ophilia (McDaniel) Wall.
Zelma grew up in Monroe, NC and graduated from Monroe High School. She married Marcus Crampton Gaudreault on November 27, 1944 at Topeka, KS. Zelma and Marcus moved to Curtis and then later to Farnam. She retired in 1981 from the ASCS office in Frontier CO after 28 years. She then went to work for the Frontier County Clerks office and retired after 10 years. When she could no longer drive, Zelma moved to North Platte, NE. In November 2012, she moved to Meadowlark Pointe in Cozad, NE. She enjoyed socializing, cooking, sewing, crafts, and dancing. Zelma always had a large garden which she enjoyed giving away the produce.
Surviving are son – Don (Janice) Gaudreault of Farnam, NE; granddaughter – Betty (T.O. Loseke) Gaudreault of Paxton, NE; two grandsons – Marc (Oksana Trofymchuk) Gaudreault of Lone Tree, CO, Tony (Michele) Gaudreault of Henderson, NV; great-grandchildren- Austin Hackney of Paxton, NE; Landon Gaudreault of Henderson, NV; Jaylen Gaudreault of Henderson, NV; brother-in-law – Eugene (Joyce) Elmore of NC; several nieces and nephews along with many friends.
Zelma was preceded in death by husband, Marcus Gaudreault, father, William Preston Wall, mother, Bertha Ophilia Wall; one brother, four sisters, three brother-in-laws.
Memorial services will be held at Farnam United Methodist Church, 303 Caribou Street, Farnam NE; May 17, 2013 at 11:00 am with Pastors Larry Viter and Neil Kloppenborg officiating.
She will be privately inurned at Fort McPherson National Cemetery next to her husband.

Larry Joe Juhl
Larry Joe Juhl, 66, of Las Vegas, Nevada, died May 8, 2013 in Las Vegas, NV.
He was born November 21, 1946 in Gothenburg, NE, son of Joseph Burton Juhl and Dorothy Marie (Sabin) Juhl.
Larry grew up in the Cozad and Gothenburg area. He attended Cozad schools and graduated from Kearney High School. He served his country in the US Army (1966-1968 and 1980-1983) where he was a medical specialist and a unit supply specialist. On September 29, 1981 he married Naomi Fish in Columbus, GA. Larry was the father of four children – David Lynn, Thorin Kirkendall, Crystal Lee, and Mistienne. Larry lived in many places including – Nebraska, Colorado, Minnesota, Washington, Alaska, Kentucky, Georgia, New Mexico, Texas, California, Nevada, and Germany. He worked as a respiratory therapist, a pharmacy tech, OR tech, CNA and was the owner/operator of Tatanka and Tiki Hut. Larry enjoyed music, movies, balsa wood airplanes and history.
Surviving are wife, Naomi May Juhl, two sons – David Lynn Juhl (daughter-in-law Suyean and grandson Alex), Thorin Kirkendall Juhl; two daughters – Crystal Lee Juhl, Mistienne Juhl, brother – Riley Del Juhl; sister – Karen A. Gilb (brother-in-law Theodore J.); brother-in-law and sister-in-law – John & Vivian Childers of Denver; along with many extended family and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by father, Joseph Burton Juhl; mother, Dorothy Marie Juhl; step mother, Laura Juhl; sister, Linda Joy Juhl.
Graveside services will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 10:30 am with Father Don O’Brien officiating.
Interment will follow in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska.

Dallis C. Dye
Dallis C. Dye passed away May 10, 2013 at Centennial Park Retirement, following a courageous battle with cancer. Dallis was born July 19, 1940 on a farm south of North Platte, NE to Orley and Edith (Miller) Dye Baxter. He attended grade school at Echo School graduating from North Platte High School in 1959. He married Connie Loghry April 24, 1960. His first job, at 16, was working at Pepsi Cola Bottling Company. He worked at Keenan’s Coca Cola from 1960 to 1977. In April 1977, he bought Cohagen Transfer and Storage later adding Cohagen Battery Store, all running as a family business. Dallis was serving on the RSVP board, the Opportunity Center Board, and the Nebraskland Days Foundation Board. He was a member of Buffalo Bill Kawanis receiving a Hixson Award in 2007, The Eagles Club receiving the Father of the Year Award in 2008, and The Elks Club all at the time of his death. He was also past member of UP Link Up. He was the president of The North Platte Chamber of Commerce from 1993 to1994. He received The North Platte Jaycee’s Boss of the Year in 1990, The Joe DiNatle Award in 1992, and The Cody Scout Award in 2004. Dallis was a passionate Husker football fan, attending as many home games as he could. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing with The Good Time Dancers. He traveled often in his motor home with his wife, and went to Arizona in the winters with their close friends. Dallis was a fixture in North Platte and could always been seen throughout the community at numerous events, gatherings, and functions. He was always there to help anybody and in any situation. He will be remembered as a hard worker, loving husband, father, grandpa, friend, and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Dye. Survivors include his wife Connie of 53 years. His brother, Dean Dye. Son Rod (Crystal) Dye, daughter Nancy (Terry) McNew, and grandchildren Sara (Kyle) Baker their children Abbi and Morgan Baker, Jennifer (Troy) Bayne and their children Allison White and Brandi Bayne, Melissa (Shane) Blackburn and their son Alex McNew, Joshua (Jane) Dye with a baby boy expected in October, Nicholas (Catherine Stewart) McNew and her children Hunter Bartels and the late Leyha Bartels, Brandi (Justin Erickson) Dye all of North Platte, and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm at the Maywood Cemetery. A memorial has been established Visitation will be 8:30 am to 8:00 pm Monday and Tuesday with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.
Joan Smith
Joan Smith, 85, of Omaha, formerly of North Platte, passed away May 8, 2013 at the Omaha Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 17, 1927 to Peter and Grace (Beaupre) Lamirande at Cloquet, MN. Joan was united in marriage to Clayton W. Smith on June 9, 1956 at Duluth, MN. They resided in Duluth, Denver, CO and then moved to North Platte in 1970. She is survived by her son, Bruce (Lena) Smith of LaVista, NE; her daughters, Lisa Smith of Jacksonville, FL and Tracey (Stuart) Votaw of North Platte, NE; grandchildren, Danielle, Matthew, Jennifer, Kaitlin, Tami, Christopher, Brian and Sarah; great grandchildren, Victoria, Jasmine, Piper, Paetyn, Theodore, Kyle and Kayden; two sisters, Loretta Brisset and Laura Tangen; a brother, Don (Jeanne) Lamirande and their families; and Del Welch’s children, Roy (Barb) Welch, Zoe Youmans, and Bud (Gladys) Welch and their family. Rosetta Marie Moriarty
Rosetta Marie Moriarty, age 92, of Paxton passed away May 9, 2013 at Linden Court. She was born August 19, 1920 in Paxton to Vernal and Flora Ward Coleman. Rosetta grew up in the Sarben area, graduating from Shelby high School. In November 1939 she married Lewis Moriarty near Paxton. The couple lived near Hershey for a short while before settling on the home place north of Paxton. The two worked together on the ranch for many years.
Rosetta will be remembered for her yard, garden and fruit trees. She enjoyed her family as the center of her life!
Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Leeds of Riverdale, NE, Neva (Dean) Rolls of Hastings and Joy (Arlen) Connell of Tryon; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Jerry (Carla) Hilger of Michigan; and a sister-in-law, Roberta Coleman of Imperial.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Eva Hilger; great-granddaughter, Shasta Bosshamer; and a brother, Glen Coleman.

Gordon Eugene Eaves
Gordon Eugene Eaves, 60, of North Platte, NE, passed away May 7, 2013, at his home in North Platte.
Gordon was born February 19, 1953, to James Beuford and Genevieve Amalie Goodmanson Eaves at North Platte where he grew up and attended public school. On February 29, 1972, Gordon enlisted with the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Denver off the shores of Vietnam. He was discharged on February 28, 1975, and returned to North Platte where he attended Mid Plains Community College studying diesel engines. He then went to work for the North Platte Public Schools in the Custodial Department.
On October 14, 1978, Gordon married Linda Marlene Dimmitt Sundstrom at North Platte where they made their home.
Gordon was a member of the First Christian Church where he ran the sound system for many years.
Survivors include his brothers, Jon (Gay) Eaves, of New Prague, MN and B. Allyn (Dee) Eaves, of Apple Valley, MN; a sister, Janet Harman, of Denver, CO; a sister-in-law, Verna Eaves, of Pittsburgh, PA; two stepdaughters, Michelle and Melissa; many nieces, nephews and other family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; his parents, Beuford and Genevieve Eaves; his brother, Gery Eaves; and a brother-in-law, Willard Harman.
Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be 10 a.m., Monday, May 13, 2013, at the First Christian Church with Pastor Adams officiating. Fatima Mary Rucker
Fatima Mary Rucker, 85, of North Platte, NE, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at the North Platte Care Center.
Mary was born September 21, 1927, at Dickens, NE to Thomas Howard and Adella Ellen Demilt Bruce. She attended rural elementary school near Dickens. During her freshman and sophomore years she attended Dickens High School then graduated from North Platte High School. Mary later taught rural elementary school from 1946 to 1950 when she chose to raise her family.
On July 27, 1949, Mary married Philip Ernest Rucker at White Lutheran Church in Hayes County. They made their home in Frontier County until 1980 when they moved to Maywood.
In 1987 Mary moved to North Platte where she was active with the Green Thumb Program and did lots of volunteer work.
Mary was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, the North Platte American Legion Auxiliary and the Maywood VFW Auxiliary.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Rhonda (Bill) Strivens, of Hartington, NE and Deanna (Bear) Jorgenson, of Hershey, NE; a son, Rod (Alison) Rucker, of Parker, CO; eight grandchildren, Dianna (Chris) Brodine, Mary (Kelly) Lammers, Dustin (Joni) Jorgenson, April Truesdale (fiance, Dan Frickey), Samantha (Kyle) Minnick, Trace Daly, Matthew Rucker and Rachel Rucker; eleven great-grandchildren, Natalie, Sydney, Carter, Anna, Phoebe, Kearsyn, Alexis, Aidan, Brayden, Tucker and Cooper; sister-in-law, Marge Bruce; several nieces, nephews and other family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip, in 1985; her parents, Thomas and Adella Bruce; three brothers, Fay (Irene) Bruce, Vern (Viva) Bruce and Donald Bruce; two sisters, Lela (Robert) Russell and Lula (Guy) Rucker; and two granddaughters, Jennifer Jorgenson and Carrie Strivens.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2013, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Robert Wiest officiating. Burial will follow in the Maywood Cemetery. Deborah Lynn Evans
Deborah Lynn Evans, 60, of North Platte, NE, passed away at her home on May 6, 2013.
Deb was born August 13, 1952, at Sutherland, NE, to Donald Gene and Lillie May Walton Odean. She grew up in Hershey, NE and graduated from Hershey High School in 1970. She then married Robert Dean Evans in 1971 in North Platte and to this union three children were born. The family made their home in Sutherland and Hershey. Deb and Robert later divorced.
Deb worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Sutherland Care Center, Centennial Park Retirement Village and Linden Estates until her health declined and she had a double lung transplant in December 2009.
She loved her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Deb also enjoyed playing the lottery and scratch tickets. She also loved her music and hated football.
Survivors include her children, Angie (Jeremy) Sanford, of Hershey and Tina Crowell and Travis (Teresa) Evans, of North Platte; eight grandchildren, Jessi, Alyssa, Aaron, Joey, Kelsey, Bailee, Lainee and Logan; three great-grandchildren, Aden, Carly and Jordan; her brothers, Kim (Ellen) Odean, of Hershey and Don, Jr. (Gayle) Odean, of Redding, CA; two nephews, Cassidy (Brooke) Odean and Lucas (Alicia) Odean; and other family.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lillie Walton Willey; father, Don Odean, Sr.; and a nephew, Cyrus Odean.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery south of Sutherland. Marilyn Yvonne Petersen
Marilyn Yvonne Petersen, 79, of North Platte, NE, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.
Marilyn was born June 2, 1933, to Vincent Orlando and Lillian Jeanette Brettingen Achterkirch at Minneapolis, MN where she grew up. She graduated from Columbia Heights High School then attended Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing. Marilyn graduated in 1955 with an RN degree then began her nursing career at Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
On June 4, 1955, Marilyn married Dr. Glenn Edward Petersen at Minneapolis. They made their home in Spring Lake Park, MN until the family moved to North Platte in 1964.
Marilyn was a member of P.E.O. Chapter AK and the First Presbyterian Church where she also served as Deacon. She was on the board of Nebraskaland Days, a volunteer with Good Fellows Shoe Fund and a member of the Nebraska Chiropractic Physicians Association Auxiliary and Ambassador’s Hostesses. Marilyn was also a Campfire Girls and Cub Scout Leader when her children were younger.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Dr. Glenn Petersen, of North Platte; her son, Dr. Rand (Shelli) Petersen, of Kearney, NE; two daughters, Melanie (Butch) Lehmkuhler, of North Platte and Krisanne (Tim) Gentleman, of Cheyenne, WY; six grandchildren, Leah (Kyle) Overturf, Anna Petersen, Bailey Lehmkuhler, Dean (Ann) Lehmkuhler, Kali (CJ) Goins and Tyler Gentleman; two great-granddaughters, Eva and Abby Lehmkuhler; and other family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Lillian Achterkirch; and her brother, Merton Achterkirch.
Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday with the family greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore. Burial will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, in Fort McPherson National Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Polly Deppen officiating.
