Lloyd K Nordin, 88, of Gothenburg, NE, died March 17, 2013 in Omaha, NE.

He was born May 12, 1924, in Gothenburg to Andrew and Augusta (Carlson) Nordin. Lloyd attended elementary school in Gothenburg, middle school in Riverside, California and high school in South Gate, California. He graduated in 1942 from South Gate High School. During WWll, Lloyd was drafted into the United States Army Air Corp. After training school, he was stationed for two and half years in India as a parachute rigger. Staff Sgt. Lloyd Nordin was honorably discharged in February of 1946. After his discharge, he returned to Gothenburg, NE.

On September 27, 1947, Lloyd married Caryl Mae Sall. Four children were born to this couple; Kathleen, Patricia, Jo Lynn, and Pamela. Also in 1947, Lloyd established Nordin Construction Company. During his construction career Lloyd built churches, commercial building and over 100 homes from Sutherland to Hebron, Nebraska.

Lloyd had a great love for anything dealing with the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed sharing this love of nature with his children and grandchildren. Lloyd used these outings to share his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, with talks about the love of God and the beauty of His creation. Lloyd was an active member of the Evangelical Free Church.

Survivors include: his devoted wife Caryl Mae, his children: daughter, Kathleen Nordin of Moreno Valley, CA; daughter, Patricia (Jerry) Shinley of Moreno Valley, CA; and their children Kristen (Glenn) Morris and Brandon Shinley; daughter, Jo Lynn Van Cleave and her children Cameron (Chrissie) Van Cleave and Cortney (Jeff) Anderson; daughter, Pamela (Larry) Henry of Omaha, NE and their children Michelle (Anthony) Jackson, Philana Conley, Damon (Stephanie) Ruffin, Jared Ruffin, Brittney Ruffin, Lea Henry, Isaiah Henry; also nine great grandchildren.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Walter, his sister Violet Peters, an infant brother, and his son-in-law Phillip Ruffin.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, NE; Sunday, March 24, 2013 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm, with family present from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Funeral Services will be held at Evangelical Free Church, March 25, 2013 at 10:00 am with Pastor Doug Monkemeier officiating.

Interment will follow in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE.

J. Scott Hawks

J. Scott Hawks, 58, of Lincoln, passed away on March 17, 2013.
He was born on Aug. 16, 1954, in Lexington, to Glenn and JoAnne Hawks. Scott graduated from Lexington High School in 1972. He married Kristi on Aug. 10, 1985. Scott retired from the City of Lincoln. He loved hunting, traveling, woodworking, and going to garage sales.
He is preceded in death by his mother, JoAnne; and father-in-law, Erick Larson.
Scott is survived by his wife, Kristi; his father, Glenn; mother-in-law, Marilyn Larson; his brother, Jim (Janelle) Hawks; his sister, Lori (Kurt) MacDonald; sister-in-law, Erica (Mark) Larson; brother-in-law, Curt Larson; sister-in-law, Carrie Larson; sister-in-law, Teresa (Mike) Oldenkamp; special friend, Linda Linke; and numerous loving aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Dale L. Tobey

Dale L. Tobey, 78, went to sleep and woke up to his Lord and Savior on March 17, 2013.
He was born Sept. 8, 1934, to Arthur L. and Mamie (Spradlin) Tobey on the home place four miles south of Maxwell. He graduated from Maxwell High School in 1952. Dale married Sandra (Phillips) Tobey on June 17, 1956, in North Platte. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 and served six years in the reserves.
He worked in Topeka, Kan., for two and a half years, where he did bidding and estimating for a construction company, sold real estate and cars for Bozarth Chevrolet. He moved back to North Platte and worked for New Tek Manufacturing, Nebraska Tractor and Electric Fixture Supply Company of North Platte. He farmed and ranched on the family farm for 52 years. Dale was awarded the Outstanding Young Farmer/Rancher Award in 1968. He served on the Federal Land Bank Board of Directors from 1966 to 1982, and also served on the Maxwell School Board for four years. Dale was an active member of the Maxwell Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald William and Milton L.; and a sister-in- law, Carolyn.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra, of North Platte; two children, Teresa Ann (Randal) Hiatt, of Alliance; Russell Ray (Rhonda) Tobey, of North Platte; four grandchildren, Brandon (Anna) Hiatt, Erin (Erik) Erickson, Amy (Garrod) Lamberty, Blake (Ashley) Tobey; two great-grandchildren, Abby and Hunter Hiatt; one brother, Delbert; a sister-in- law, Jenevie Tobey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Clifford Pinkerton

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Clifford Pinkerton, 92, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2013.
Clifford, also known as Pinky, was a brilliant, kind, and gentle soul that will be sorely missed by all of his family and friends.
Clifford was born in Omaha on May 6, 1920. Clifford married Marjorie Jane Van deVenter and they recently celebrated their 70th anniversary. Together they had two daughters and two sons. In 1942, Clifford went into the service as a radar officer and was soon promoted to general’s aide due to being fluent in French. He was released due to an injury and was able to attend medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center on the G.I. Bill. He was a family practitioner in North Platte for 18 years. He then specialized in anesthesiology and was an anesthesiologist for 21 years.
Once retired, he and his wife moved to Sun City West, Ariz., in 1986.
Clifford is survived by his beloved children, Kathee (Jay) Larson, of Wahoo, Susie Watton, of Lincoln, Bruce (Eileen) Pinkerton, of Billings, Mont., and Mark (Tess) Pinkerton, of Olathe, Kan.; as well as his 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Advent Episcopal Church or Operation Smile, 35 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, VA 23509.
Services were on March 18 at Advent Episcopal Church in Sun City West, Ariz.

Jeffrey L. Weisgerber, 39, died March 15, 2013, in Omaha.
He was born March 12, 1974. Jeff was beloved by many and touched numerous lives.
Jeffrey was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Charlotte Weisgerber and Ted E. and Edith Barnhill.
He is survived by his wife, Kelli E. O’Brien; parents, Rick and Linda Weisgerber; his sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Kevin Welch; his brother, Mark Weisgerber; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Lynda O’Brien; sisters-in-law, Darcy (Dan) O’Brien-Genrich, and Keegan O’Brien; and nieces and nephews, Bailey, Blaine, Brielle, Sophia and Caden.

Darel Francis Gilkeson

Darel Francis Gilkeson, 100, of Sutherland, NE, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte.

Darel was born May 11, 1912, at Ashland, NE to Denniston F. and Edna Alpha Ramsey Gilkeson. The family moved to Wheatland, WY for a short time before moving to Sutherland in 1918. He graduated from Sutherland High School in 1931 then started farming in the Sutherland area. When he retired in 1996 he moved off the farm and into town.

Darel was a very honest and responsible person. At the age of 16, he took care of his family because his father was ill. When times were tough during the Depression the family lost their home and lived in a neighbor’s chicken coop. Darel also took care of his mother for 10 years with his sister, Mabel. He and Mabel had lived together their entire lives. Darel was a good man and enjoyed hunting.

Darel was a member of the Sutherland Odd Fellows Lodge where he received his 30 year pin.

Darel is survived by his sister, Mabel Gilkeson, of Sutherland; other family including his nephews, Ron (Cary) Sherman and Roger (Kathy) Sherman, all of Missouri; and many friends including Hope and Joe Reyes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Denniston and Edna Gilkeson, and a sister, Cora Sherman.

Cremation was chosen. A graveside memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013, in the North Platte Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Douglas A. Delp officiating. Joan Francis O’Rourke

Joan Francis O’Rourke, 85, of North Platte, NE, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte.

Joan was born February 20, 1928, at Moorefield, NE to Maurice and Bessie Elizabeth Welch Stephenson. She grew up in the Moorefield and Curtis, NE area and graduated from Curtis High School. Joan then attended college in Colorado where she received her teaching certificate. She returned to Nebraska and taught in a country school south of North Platte for a couple of years.

On August 10, 1949, Joan married the love of her life, Van Darrell O’Rourke, in North Platte where they made their home and raised their four sons. Joan and Van later lived in Denver, CO before returning to North Platte in March 2009. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons, Stephen (Karla) O’Rourke, of North Platte, Robert ‘Bob’ (Barb) O’Rourke, of Aurora, CO and Todd O’Rourke (Tim Sinclair), of Commerce City, CO; daughter-in-law, Jami O’Rourke (Mark) Mendenhall, of North Platte; eight grandchildren, Scott (Melissa) O’Rourke, Stacey (Bob) King, Kari (Ryan) Grigg, Emily (Brock) Wurl, Adam O’Rourke, Katelyn (Josh) Sperle, Vanessa ‘Dani’ O’Rourke and Colin O’Rourke; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Van; a son, James O’Rourke; her parents, Maurice and Bessie Stephenson; two sisters, Ruby Smith and Zella Mae Keith; and two brothers, Faye and Merle Stephenson.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore with Pastor Robert O’Rourke officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Kathleen Mary (Breitzmann) Gaboury

Kathleen Mary (Breitzmann) Gaboury, 74, formerly of Gothenburg, died March 13, 2013 in Fullerton, NE.

She was born June 26, 1938 in Superior, WI, daughter of Rudolph, Sr. and Rosa (O’Connell) Breitzmann.

Kathleen grew up in Superior, WI; Pontiac, MI; and Duluth, MN. She graduated from St. Jean-Baptiste High School in Duluth, with the class of 1956. She was married in Duluth, MN and was the mother of four children: Paul, Lorraine, Deb, and Douglas. She lived in many places including Superior, WI; Pontiac, MI; Duluth, MN; St, Louis Park, MN; Rapid CIty, SD; in Nebraska – Gothenburg, North Platte, Kearney, Grand Island, Lincoln and Fullerton. She worked as a police dispatcher for Gothenburg Police Department and the Nebraska State Patrol. She enjoyed her grandchildren, working crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles.

Surviving are two daughters Debra (Daniel) Metzger of Cozad, NE; Lorraine (Rex) Messersmith of McCook, NE; son Paul (Paulet) Gaboury of McCook, NE; sister-in-law Anita Breitzmann, of Zimmerman, MN; 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews extended family and friends.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents Rudolph Sr and Rosa; brother Rudolph Breitzmann, Jr.; son Douglas Anthony Gaboury.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Sunday, March 17, 2013; 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm.with the family present.

Funeral services will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, March 18, 2013 at 10:30 am with Father Don O’Brien officiating.

Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.

William “Bill” Elmer Holson

William “Bill” Elmer Holson, age 59, of North Platte, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.
Bill was born October 16, 1953 in Tucson, AZ, to William and Beverly (Barnes) Holson. He grew up in Oklahoma and Nebraska. He met Jamie Young at a young age and the couple has been together for years. They wed on March 23, 1997 in North Platte. Bill worked for Ernie and Jan Mehl on their farm for many years. He also worked for Herbst’s towing, Carl Maline and Tom Vedder. Bill purchased his first truck and started driving for himself in 2004. Even though he was 100% disabled from an accident in 1987, he continued to support his family, working through the pain and discomfort he felt. In November 2012 he had to quit due to his injuries. He was a past member of the Moose and Eagles’ Clubs and a life time member of the Trucker Association Safety Committee which regularly met at the House Bar on Friday Nights. Bill enjoyed driving so much that on his time off he went for drives with his family. He also enjoyed woodworking and being with his family. He especially loved his grandchildren and his dog, Tate.
Survivors include his wife Jamie of North Platte; three daughters, Chelsea (Patrick) Jensen of North Platte, Ashley Golden of North Platte, Becky (Alex) Wallace of West Virginia; three sons, Joseph (Gabrielle) Holson of Kearney, Tyler Holson of North Platte, Justin Holson of Florida; six sisters, Elaine (Jerry) Stubbs, Linda (Dennis) Whitmore, Irene Tro Baugh, Teresa (David) Phillips, Melissa (Randy) Francke, Susie (Don) Goddard; four brothers, Charles (Anita Davis) Holson, Robert (Carolyn) Holson, Elmer (Jan) Holson, Junior Holson; six grandchildren, Kendra, Jazmine, Lavender, Alex Jr., Hannah, Atalie and Allison; and several nieces, nephews and other family members.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Wanda Holson; and mother and father-in-law Ellen and Jim Young.

Mary ‘Luella’ Schultz

Mary ‘Luella’ Schultz, age 86, of Sutherland, formerly of North Platte, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Sutherland Care Center. She was born October 15, 1926 to William Vangie and Mary Henrietta (Greeley) Reeves. She grew up in North Platte. On October 15, 1942 she married Harvey James Schultz in North Platte. The couple lived on the Pawnee Springs Ranch and several other ranches before moving to North Platte. Luella was a member of the Lighthouse Foursquare Church, the Women’s Group of the church, and she was a First Grade Sunday School teacher for over 50 years.
She enjoyed fishing, walking, collecting rocks and spending time with the family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter Joan (Frank) Bonta of North Platte; three sons, James (Ginger) Schultz of Lake McConaughy, NE., Terry Schultz of North Platte, and Jack (Deb) Schultz of North Platte; two brothers, Harold (Lois) Reeves of North Platte and Merle Reeves of North Platte; a sister Deloris (Joe) Carpenter of Virginia; 16 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great grandchildren;
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Karen; a great-grandson Christopher; and three sisters Vickie Anderson, Violet Krovas, and LaVonne Spurgin.
