Mary Jo Marshall


Mary Jo Marshall, age 66 of North Platte, died December 29, 2012 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.
Mary Jo was born on October 8, 1946 in Rushville, NE to Herman and Lucille (McGannon) Arthur.
She graduated from Assumption Academy in Chadron in 1965. She moved to Denver for a short while before moving back to Chadron where she married Lou Marshall on October 14, 1967. Over the years, the couple lived in Oelrick, SD, and several Nebraska towns including Harrison, Hay Springs, Kearney and Cozad, where she worked at Warnke State Farm Insurance. In 1991 they moved to North Platte where she worked with Wayne Johnson and Jim Waldschmidt at State Farm Insurance. She currently was working for Bill Burbach State Farm Insurance.
Mary Jo was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, she enjoyed sewing, wine collecting and traveling, especially in the Black Hills.
Survivors include her husband Lou of North Platte; daughters Karen Woldt of Cozad, Deanna (Casey) Wilson of Cozad and Deborah (Terence) McIntyre of North Platte; a sister Patty (Jerry) Nebel of Denver; brothers Paul (Mary) Arthur of Rapid City, SD and Tim (Deb) Arthur of Aurora, NE; sister-in-law Shirley Arthur of Hastings; brother and sister-in-law Harry (Linda) Marshall; sister and brother-in-law Jan (Bruce) Garner; grandchildren Brandon and Rylee Woldt, Heather, Cody, Jarod and Timothy Wilson, and Katie McIntyre; and numerous other family members and friends.

Marvin Smith


Marvin Smith, 76, died December 28, 2012 in North Platte. He was born July 31, 1936 in Franklin, Nebraska to Milo and Viola Smith.
At the age of 16, Marvin went to work as a ranch hand for Chas Long at the Long Ranch northwest of North Platte. He worked for three generations of the Long family. One of his most out-of-the-ordinary jobs as a ranch hand was helping prepare for the visit of President Ronald Reagan to the Long Ranch in 1987. Marvin was a kind and gentle man who loved the ranch, the livestock and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Over the years the Long family became Marvin’s extended family.
Survivors include Margaret Long, Michaelene Long and Cathy Long all of North Platte; Tom Long of Gothenburg and Patrick Long of Elko, NV.

Doris Lillybelle Goltz


Doris Lillybelle Goltz, of North Platte, passed away at the age of 89 on December 10, 2012 in Hagerstown, Maryland. Known to most as “Mrs. Goltz”, she was the soulmate to her beloved husband Rev. Carl M. Goltz for 58 years. Pastor and Mrs. Goltz were involved in organizing the planting of 17 churches and they personally started and pastored the Torrington Berean and Scottsbluff Berean Churches. They then ministered at the North Platte Berean Church for 21 years. Besides supporting her husband, Mrs. Goltz made contributions to many lives through her deep passion for children’s, youth, and ladies’ ministries, and worldwide missions. She served as Sunday School superintendent of the Primary Departments in all her churches for over 50 years. While in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, she was President of the Women’s Auxillary and a primary fundraiser for Regional West Medical Center. She was also an ardent Nebraska Cornhusker and Denver Bronco football fan since the 1950s.
Doris was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on September 16, 1923 to Acy Hebert and Anna Barbara (Neuvander) Kent. Her family moved to Weed, California in 1928. She was the third of eight children (Herbert, George, Kathylene Betty, Anna Louise, Leonard, Albert, and Barbara) and was the last surviving sibling. Doris attended Sacramento State University where she was a member of the Phi Gamma Nu sorority. She then attended Biola University to obtain her degree in Bible and Christian Education. When Carl returned from World War II, he and Doris married on September 25, 1945 and then attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Sue Childerston and husband James, from Hagerstown, Maryland. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Coleman Grubbs and wife Andrea, Chanda Grubbs, Sara Childerston, Jeffrey Childerston, and J. Scott Childerston, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Berean Church in North Platte. Private family burial will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell. The family will be receiving friends and sharing memories from 7:00-8:00 pm Friday, January 4, 2013 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Moody Bible Institute or Weed, CA Berean Building Fund. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. H. Sally Mosier


H. Sally Mosier, 91, of North Platte, passed away December 28, 2012 at home. She was born Feb. 1, 1921 to Harry and Minnie (Morrison) Dodds at Van Buren County, Iowa. She graduated from Bonaparte High School in Bonaparte, Iowa. While in high school she loved musicals and was a cheerleader. On Dec. 21, 1941, she was united in marriage to Charles Mosier at South Mills, North Carolina. They lived in York, NE and Kearney, NE for many years and most recently in North Platte. Sally enjoyed sewing and all crafts. She taught Sunday school for many years. She is survived by one son, Charles Mosier of Orange, CA, daughters, Margaret (Charles) Stone of North Platte and Laura (Jay) Williams of Emmit, Idaho, sister, Eleanor Starr of Clinton, Iowa, eleven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons, Kenneth and Gary and a brother. Graveside services will be 1:30 pm Monday, December 31, 2012 at the Greenwood Cemetery in York. Floyd “Hank” William Hinrichsen


Floyd “Hank” William Hinrichsen, age 82 of North Platte, passed away December 28, 2012 at his home.
Hank was born March 9, 1930 in Overton, NE to Walter and Anna (Hemstrom) Hinrichsen. He grew up in Overton and then went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. From August 1951 to April 1953 he served in the Army, including 16 months in Korea. He came home and returned to work for the Union Pacific. He married Margery Lewis, the love of his life, on May 16, 1954. He retired from the railroad in 1991. He enjoyed fishing, waterskiing and his family, especially his grandchildren.
Hank is survived by his wife Margery; daughter Kim Hinrichsen of North Platte, son Keith (Cathy) Hinrichsen of North Platte; grandhildren Gregory (Pricilla) Vega, Nicole Vega, Alexis and Alex Hinrichsen; great grandchildren Taysen and Emma Vega; siblings Wilmer Hinrichsen of Elm Creek, Dean Hinrichsen of Overton, Ray (Mary Jane) Hinrichsen of Grand Island, Jay (Deliah) Hinrichsen of Kearney, Delores (Louie) Roper of Sargent, Phyllis (Norm) Richardson of Elm Creek, and Lucile (George) Moore of Overton.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Daryl Welton Broberg


Daryl Welton Broberg, 72, of Loveland, CO formerly of Sutherland, NE died Thursday, December 27, 2012, at the Aspen House in Loveland.

Daryl was born May 13, 1940, at Holdrege, NE to Welton Godfrey and Faye Meta Thompson Broberg. He grew up on a farm north of Loomis, NE where he graduated from Loomis High School. Daryl then graduated from Kearney State College with a degree in Education. He was an outstanding athlete, both at Loomis and Kearney State. He played football and ran track, winning the State half-mile in class D. He ran on the sprint medley relay team at Kearney, which was nationally ranked, and the team held the record at Kearney for a long period of time.

On June 23, 1962, Daryl married Carol Jean Balcom and the couple moved to Sutherland a month later where they were both hired as teachers in the Sutherland School System. Daryl taught industrial arts and was head football and track coach for over 20 years. He coached several undefeated football teams in the 60’s and 70’s, including a State Championship in 1964 and 1969. Daryl also coached at the All-Star game in Scottsbluff. His track teams at Sutherland were always excellent, as they won several conference titles and competed well at state.

After 25 years of teaching and coaching, Daryl went to work for Life Investors Insurance Company full-time in 1986, retiring in 2009. Daryl was very successful and was one of the top agents in his company for many years. He was a member of the Million-Dollar Round Table; the most prestigious award given in the insurance industry. He was well respected by his peers and friends.

Daryl was a member of the Sutherland Presbyterian Church and served on the board. He was also a member of the Lions Club, Booster Club, Chamber of Commerce and was involved in many other activities at Sutherland.

Daryl is survived by his son, Robert Broberg, of Sutherland; a daughter, Vicki (Mitch) Varela, and grandson, RaShawn Varela, all of Greeley, CO; his brother, Richard Broberg, of Overland Park, KS; a nephew, Justin Broberg, of Omaha, NE; and other family and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; his parents, Welton and Faye Broberg; his brother, James Broberg; and his father and mother-in-law, Lowell and Faye Balcom.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2013, at the Sutherland High School with Vicar JA Welsh officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery south of Sutherland. Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday with family receiving friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore. Condolences may also be shared at odeanchapel.com. Alice May Boyd


Alice May Boyd, 83, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died December 26, 2012 at Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg, NE.

She was born February 18, 1929 in Gothenburg, NE, daughter of Jurgen and Minnie (Heuer) Heidebrink.

Alice graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1946. She married Frank Boyd on November 9, 1947. They lived and worked in Lexington until March 1, 1949 when they moved to her family farm north of Gothenburg. They made their home on the farm for 60 years until they moved into town to live at Stone Hearth Estates.

Alice attended St. John’s Lutheran Church then later the American Lutheran Church. She belonged to the Hanna Circle. She and her husband enjoyed getting together with family and enjoyed square dancing.

Survivors include four sons: Robert (Lisa) Boyd of Hastings, David (Cynthia) Boyd of Lexington, Thomas (Janet) Boyd of Overton, Douglas (Mimi Schneider) Boyd of Lincoln; grandchildren: Nichole (Erik) Wetjen, Leilani Boyd, Zachary Boyd, Sarah (Cesar) Hernandez, Matthew (Sara) Boyd, Shawn (Kendra) Boyd; 13 great grandchildren

Alice was preceded in death by husband, Frank F Boyd, great grandson, Cain, her parents Jurgen and Minnie Heidebrink, four brothers – Earl, Walter, Lester, and Marvin Heidebrink, two sisters, Alma Heidebrink and Vera Geiken.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Tuesday, January 01, 2013 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

Funeral Services will be held at American Lutheran Church, January 2, 2013 at 10:30 am with Pastor Tom Wilson officiating.

Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.

R. Dean Crook


R. Dean Crook, 91, of North Platte, passed away December 22, 2012 at Linden Court. Dean was born January 3, 1921 in Paxton to William J. and Ruth (Louden) Crook. He grew up in Paxton and graduated from Paxton High School. After graduation he went to California and worked in an air craft factory until entering the Merchant Marines in June of 1942. He served four years during WWII. On Dec. 22, 1946, he married Virginia Coleman of Paxton. They were married 66 years on the day of his death. Dean was a member of the Bethel Evangelical Free Church. He was a charter member of the Art Gallery and The Wood Carvers Club. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 1982. Survivors include his wife, Virginia; sons, Rex of Denver, CO, Mark (Becky) of Tigard, OR; a daughter, Cathy (Dennis) Collins of North Platte; six grandchildren, Katie, Cassie, Stephanie, Jessica, Joshua and Ashley; three great grandchildren; a sister, Marcelle (Norman) House of North Platte; a brother, Gary (Rosa) Crook of Omaha; and other relatives. Dorothy Margaret Wright


Dorothy Margaret Wright, 92, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died December 27, 2012 at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital in Gothenburg, NE.

She was born July 25, 1920 in Gothenburg, NE, daughter of Pete and Emma (Poggendorf) Jobman.

Dorothy was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church. She graduated from Gothenburg High School with the class of 1938. In 1939 she left with her brother Paul to join her brother Alfred in Los Angeles. She spent from 1939 to 1983 on the West Coast from San Diego to the Cascades of Washington. She worked in restaurants all of her life, starting at Otto’s Lunch during her school years. She finished with Gary at Pete’s working part time and she loved every minute of it. Dorothy married Stan Wright on November 24, 1951.

She is survived by her brother, Lester (Francis) Jobman, nephew, Terry (Nancy) Jobman, nieces Renee Cordova, Heidi Jobman and Charlotte Jobman, great nieces & nephews Andy & Becky Jobman, David Jobman, Erin Jobman, Christopher Morris, and Erica Jobman; and brother-in-law Orvin (Shirley) Stevens.

Dorothy was preceded in death by husband, Stanley Wright; parents; two brothers, Paul and Alfred Jobman; sister, Lorene Stevens; two nephews Harlan Stevens and Matt Jobman,a niece Bonnie Meier and great niece Susan Elizabeth Jobman.

William Foy “Bill” Clark


William Foy “Bill” Clark, age 72 of North Platte, passed away December 24, 2012 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Bill was born October 26, 1940 to Delbert “Doc” Valentine and Inez L. Clark at Rushville, NE. He spent much of his youth in Valentine, Norfolk and Omaha, graduating from North High School with the Class of 1960, before moving to North Platte in 1960. He served in the Army from 1966 to 1968. On May 24, 1969 he married Kathryn R. “Kathy” Deen in North Platte.
Bill was a member of the Masonic Temple. Throughout his adult life he worked for Bee Line Motor Freight, McDonalds Department store, Colson Advertising, KODY, Hord Printing, Buffalo Printing and Adams and Swanson Funeral Home. He retired in late 2000, shortly before receiving a heart transplant.
Bill is survived by his wife Kathy of North Platte; children Christie (Doug) Friedman of Flagstaff, AZ, and Allen of Wayne; siblings Kay (Doug) Downs of Hershey and Robert of Scribner; grandson Grady William Friedman of Flagstaff, AZ; sisters-in-law Kay Pueppka of Ballwin, MO and Deb Trott of Cheyenne, WY; brother-in-law Dennis (Charlene) Deen of Petaluma, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Doc & Inez Clark; parents-in-law Frank and Phyllis Deen; and brothers-in-law Dennis Pueppka and Mike Trott.
