Judy E. Taylor


Judy E. Taylor, 67, of Lincoln, passed away Nov. 18, 2012, at the Autumn House in Lincoln.
Judy was born on June 30, 1945, in Mullen, the daughter of Joe and Leona (Parker) Dugger. She grew up in Thedford and graduated from Thedford High School with the class of 1963. After high school Judy moved to Lincoln and attended the Lincoln Business College.
Judy loved the Sandhills and that is where she chose to live and raise her family. She moved to North Platte and then to Wyoming where she married Richard “Dick” Taylor. She moved to Lincoln two years ago when she became sick and wanted to be closer to her family.
Judy enjoyed cooking and was an avid reader. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in North Platte.
Judy is survived by her children, Paige (Shayne) Zutavern, of Lincoln, and Jake Cline, of Salina, Kan.; two grandsons, Schyler and Zane Zutavern; her mother, Leona Dugger, of North Platte; sister, Mary Alice (Doug) Curtis; nephew, Josh Hansen; and niece, Jackie Curtis.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dick Taylor; and her father, Joe Dugger.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Lincoln Family Funeral Care, 5844 Fremont St., Lincoln, with Laurie Dunn officiating. In honoring her wishes to be cremated, there is no viewing or visitation.

Suzanne “Suzy” (Watson) Phillips


Suzanne “Suzy” (Watson) Phillips, 52, of Ogallala, formerly of North Platte, passed away Nov. 16, 2012, at Ogallala Community Hospital.
Suzy was born on April 16, 1960, in Omaha to Norma Lovejoy and Leroy Maupin. After her parents passed away she was raised by her grandparents, Elsie and Mason Watson, in North Platte. She attended North Platte High School.
On June 29, 2012, in North Platte, she married Billy Phillips, of North Platte. They then moved to Ogallala, where she worked at ASC. Suzy was a member of the Eagles Club and the North Platte Pool League. She enjoyed her grandchildren, her two boys and her dog, Gizmo.
Suzy is survived by her husband, Billy; and two sons, Tim (Tammy) Pirnie and Corey Hoskins (fiance Beth); five grandchildren and one due in January 2013; one brother, Gary (Stacy) Watson; and many nieces nephews family and friends.
Suzy was preceded in death by her mother and father; sister; and two brothers.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, at Four Square Church with Pastor Dave Holland officiating. Cremation was chosen. Inurnment will be at a later day. There will be a potluck following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family.

Sonja Lee Yost


Sonja Lee Yost, 69, of North Platte, NE passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte after a short battle with cancer.

Sonja was born July 3, 1943, in North Platte to Herman John and Wanda Mae Grunden Pasman. She grew up in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School in 1961. She went to work for St. Mary’s Hospital in the Laundry Unit then worked in the Surgery Unit. She also worked in house keeping and on the switchboard at the Pawnee Hotel and at the McLaughlin Cafe for two years.

On October 24, 1969, Sonja married Larry Dean Yost in Cozad, NE and they lived there for 18 months before moving to North Platte in 1971. Sonja then went to work for the Far West Motel for 11 years then worked in the laundry at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.

Sonja was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed bowling, Sonics and ice tea. She also like going to her widow support group and spending time with her family and grandkids.

Sonja is survived by her sons, Darrell (Cheryl) Yost and Chad (Kendra) Yost, all of North Platte, NE; four grandchildren, Carissa and Jace Yost and Jordan and Korben Yost; and other family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; her parents, Herman and Wanda Pasman; and a sister, Elaine Pasman.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2012, at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore with Rev. Virginia “Ginny” Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Casual dress is requested for the service. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore. Betty Jane M. Gloy


Betty Jane M. Gloy, age 85 of North Platte, died November 18, 2012 at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala. She was born on December 25, 1926 in Ogallala, NE to Carl and Esther (Blomenkamp) Hansmeier.
Betty grew up southeast of Ogallala and graduated from Ogallala High School. She then attended business school in Colorado Springs, CO. Betty married Ervin Miller and the couple owned Miller’s grocery store in North Platte. Ervin was called back into the service and died in the Korean War.
Betty moved to Ogallala where she worked at J.C. Penney. She then married Ira Painter. The couple moved to Grand Island where they owned the Maid-Rite Café. They later moved to Ogallala where they owned the Lazy J Liquor Store. She and Ira moved to an acreage near Sutherland where Betty was the city clerk for the next 18 years. She was involved in many of the city’s projects and took pride in being a part of them. Ira preceded her in death in 1982.
Betty married Leonard Gloy in May of 1983. The couple lived in Imperial. After their retirement they moved to North Platte. He preceded her in death on July 2, 1999.
Betty was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in North Platte and of the City Clerks’ Association. She loved to cook, entertain and travel.
Survivors include her daughter, Janie Painter of North Platte; two step-daughters, Gail (Gary) Snyder of Missouri, and Pam (Mike) Reed of Yuma, AZ; a step-son, Gary Gloy of Denver, CO; four grandchildren, Mike (Jessica) Snyder, Mark (Terra) Snyder, Jeff Gloy, and Melissa (Michael) Hughes; numerous great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald (Janice) Hansmeier of Ogallala and Tom (Mary Ann) Hansmeier of Ogallala; three sisters, Pat (Fred) Engel of Grant, Peg (Ivan) Ekart of Imperial and Mary Sue (Dan) Borowski of Grant; and numerous other family members and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; a step-son, Ron Painter; a nephew, Tim Engel; and a great nephew, Bryan Gifford. A memorial has been established to the Lutheran Hour Radio Program and online condolences can be made at www.adamsswansson.com.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. MT Friday November 23, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Church southeast of Ogallala with the Reverend Robert Pierce officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Harold Jorgensen


Harold Jorgensen, 95, of Curtis, Nebraska, passed away November 16, 2012 at Linden Court in North Platte, NE at the age of 95 years.

Harold was born November 5, 1917 in Curtis, NE; to Jorgen Peter and Anna (Jepsen) Jorgensen.

Harold attended school in Curtis graduating from UNSA High School in 1936. Following high school Harold entered the US Army attending Officers Training School and then served his country from 1941 to 1945 in WWII earning a purple heart after he was wounded in combat. Following his service to his country as a 2nd Lieutenant he returned to the Curtis area where he farmed and ranched.

Harold married Margaret Johnson on August 1, 1942 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Harold’s life was a tribute to his faith in God. He taught adult Sunday school and served as a Lay Minister . He also served on the church board in many capacities at both Ebenezer Lutheran Church and St. John’s Lutheran Church.

His family was the joy of his life which was demonstrated through his deep and unconditional love. He was a loyal neighbor and friend. He looked at his farm and cattle as pleasure rather than work, regularly taking enjoyable drives through pastures and fields with family and neighborhood friends.

He was an active member of the American Legion, Nebraska Beef Council, National Cattleman’s Association, the Toastmasters Association and Lions club. He served on several boards including Curtis Co-Op, Farm Bureau, Board of Education, the Board of Elections, and the Curtis Telephone Co. Harold was also active in the Young Farmer Veteran organization and 4-H, where he served as the leader for many years.

He is survived by his son, Richard (Sharon) Jorgensen of Curtis, NE; his daughters: Ann Jeanette (Jim) Deidel of North Platte, NE; Gwen Nickerson of Curtis, NE; and Diane Walsh of Cozad, NE; grandsons: Mark (Lanis) Jorgensen, Matt (Trisha) Jorgensen, Steve Strawn, John (Susan) Robinson, Jeff (Kathy) Robinson, Darren (Jennifer) Robinson, Tim (Danelle) Nickerson, Ryan Walsh; and, granddaughters: Lori (Mike) Mortensen, Amy (Brandon) Jahnke, Angela (Cory) Nida, Stacie (Kevin) Owens; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Loren (Lorraine) of North Platte, NE; his sister Erma Taylor of Casper, WYO; and a host of other family and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by wife, Margaret Jorgensen, his parents, his brother, Vern Jorgensen, grandson Steven Jorgensen, and son-in-law, Joe Nickerson. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed by all.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Curtis, Nebraska; Tuesday, November 20, 2012 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm with the family present from 5-7 pm.

Services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church – Curtis, November 21, 2012 at 11:00 am with Rev. Derrick Brown officiating.

Interment will follow in the Curtis Cemetery, Curtis, NE.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed by all.

Laura Virginia Hammond Simonson


Laura Virginia Hammond Simonson, 89, a longtime resident of Cherry County, passed away Nov. 15, 2012, at Good Samaritan Village, in Hastings.
Laura was born July 28, 1923, in Mullen, to Elmer and Allie (Pearl) Hammond. Laura was the third of four children and was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Gladys Howard, Eva Canida Wallace and Jack Hammond. Laura was raised on her parents’ homestead in the southwest corner of Hooker County and walked one-half mile each way to school through the eighth grade before attending Mullen High School.
Laura married Bill Simonson in Alliance, on Nov. 3, 1941. Together, they raised six children on the ranch north of Mullen in Cherry County. Her husband Bill preceded her in death in 1986, and one son, Russell, in 1979, as well as three infant granddaughters.
For many years, Laura raised a huge garden and many chickens. She loved finding sand cherries on the hillside and her jelly was a gift to her friends, family and grandchildren many times over. Laura’s greatest love was her family, the ranch and her cows. She was known for her good cooking, especially her fresh bread, caramel rolls, mashed potatoes, fried chicken and rare roast beef. No one ever left her home hungry nor did she ever leave home without taking food wherever she went.
Laura was a member of Winifred Chapter #292 Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years and served in many capacities. She joined the Sunshine Chapter #261 in 2007 and proudly kept every receipt from both chapters and a Past Worthy Matron certificate dating back to 1963 and 1974.
For several years she worked at the drugstore in Mullen and the school lunch program while the youngest children went to school in town. After Bill died, she stayed on the ranch until 2005 when she moved to an apartment and later assisted living in North Platte. In December of 2009, Laura’s health deteriorated and she moved to a nursing home, Good Samaritan Village, in Hastings.
Laura is survived by five of her children, LeRoy Simonson of North Platte, Karen (Butch) Freeze, of Hershey, Janice (Butch) Barnason, of Hastings, John Simonson, of Mullen and Harlan (Sharon) Simonson, of Ainsworth; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services are at 10:30 a.m., MST, on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the United Methodist Church in Mullen. Burial will be at Cedarview Cemetery in Mullen. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., MST , Monday, Nov. 19, at Mullen Funeral Home. The family will be present to receive friends.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice, Mullen Rest Home, Good Samaritan Village or Eastern Star Lodge #261 of Thedford.

Eileen Moore


Eileen Moore, 98, of Culbertson, died at the Lancaster Manor Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln on Nov. 16, 2012.
Eileen Blanche McNeice Moore was born to Joseph and Rena (Brown) McNeice on Feb. 5, 1914, in Hitchcock County. She married Harvey E. Moore on Jan. 14, 1936, in Norton, Kan.
Eileen graduated from Culbertson High School class of 1931 and from Chaffey Junior College in Ontario, Calif., in 1933.
Eileen was a member of the United Methodist Church in Culbertson. Eileen worked at Senhert’s bakery for 33 years before retiring. She was well known for the cakes she decorated while working at the bakery. Eileen enjoyed sewing for the grandchildren and great grandchildren before becoming legally blind. Eileen had been residing at Lancaster Manor Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln since June 30.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Dale, Winston, Berwyn (Jack) McNeice; sisters, Iris Gummere, Josephine Petersen, Mavis Petersen, and Jesslyn Stubbs; husband, Harvey; son, Darryl, daughter-in-law, Mrs. Rodney (Jeannine) Moore.
She is survived by her son Rodney, of Lincoln; daughter-in-law, Sue Moore, of Imperial; granddaughters, Tamara (Wade) Phillips, of Lincoln; Kelly Jo (Ron) Simmons, on Esterville, Iowa, Kimberly (Terry) Swanson, of Goodlettsviile, Tenn., Courtney Fetters, of Ogallala; Shelia (Paul) Potrzeba, of Northville, Mich.; Camela Moore, of Esterville, Iowa; sister-in-law, Berniece McNeice, of Sun City, Ariz.; 14 great- grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She will be missed by family and friends.

Elsie Marie Lombardi


Elsie Marie Lombardi, 92, of North Platte, passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte.
Elsie was born Nov. 2, 1920, at Lewellen, to Otto Gustav and Ella Reick Dettman. She was raised on the family farm east of Lewellen and attended country school, then graduated from Lewellen Senior High School in 1938.
On Sept. 9, 1944, Elsie married Joseph E. Lombardi at Lakewood, Colo. They moved to Kearney, where their son, Dennis, was born. In 1948, the family moved to North Platte where they resided until 1976, when they moved to Littleton, Colo. While in North Platte, Elsie worked at McLaughlin’s Cafe and later at St. Mary’s Hospital for many years. She later returned to North Platte and resided at Centennial Park Retirement Village until her death.
Elsie was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her grandchildren and her dogs over the years.
Elsie is survived by her son, Dennis, and wife, Gaylene Lombardi, of North Platte; two grandchildren, Cyndi and husband, Danny Griffiths, of North Platte, and Jarod Lombardi and fiancée, Joelle Minitti, of Chandler, Ariz., and her children, Morgan and Mason; two great-grandchildren, Brookelyn Griffiths and MaKenna Lombardi; and other family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, her parents; Otto and Ella Dettman; three brothers, Edwin, William and Herbert Dettman; and an infant sister.
Graveside service and interment will be in Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colo., on Wednesday, Nov. 21. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, and Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore. Condolences may also be shared at odeanchapel.com. Betty Lou Enyeart


Betty Lou Enyeart, 72, of North Platte, passed away Nov. 15, 2012.
She was born May 11, 1939, to Robert and Bettie Snyder. She graduated from Walton High School in Walton. In 1962, Betty Lou was united in marriage to William Enyeart. She worked at Best Laundry, Linden Manor and cared for several foster children. Betty loved gardening, reading and pie.
She is survived by her three sons, Lloyd (Bobbi Hyer), Billy (Shelly) and Tracy (Melissa); six grandchildren; several great grandchildren; siblings, Roberta, Eddie and Johnny; many nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, Paul Enyeart.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; siblings, Virginia, Ray, Jim and Dee; and a granddaughter, Dusty.
