Charlotte Kay Daily


Charlotte Kay Daily, 52, of North Platte, died Nov. 14, 2012, at her home after a two-year battle with cancer. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 19, at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ryan Alexander of Calvary Baptist officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Lou Johnston


Mary Lou Johnston, age 86, of North Platte passed away November 13, 2012 at her home. She was born August 20, 1926 in Ashford, Alabama to Thomas and Bertie Joiner White. Mary Lou grew up in Georgia. On March 27, 1948 she married James A. Johnston at Fort Benning, Georgia. James was in the Air Force so the family traveled around the country. James retired in 1970 and the family settled in Sutherland. Mary Lou worked at the Sutherland Care Center and helped James at his welding shop. They also raised honey bees. In 1987 the couple moved to a house just north of North Platte, and they ran the Recycling Center in North Platte. Mary Lou enjoyed quilting, was a hard worker, and wanted to make sure her kids were well taken care of.
Survivors include her sons, James Michael “Mike” Johnston and Jerrol Patrick “Pat” (Bobbie) Johnston all of North Platte; grandchildren, Travis (Michelle) Johnston of Columbia, SC and Ryan (Emily) Johnston of North Platte; great-grandchildren, Nolan and Shelby of North Platte and David of SC; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; seven brothers and sisters; and two daughters, Cheryl Ann and Barbara Arlene Johnston.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2012 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with Bishop Neil Hokenson officiating. Burial will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. today at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

Bernard L. Green


Bernard L. Green, 92, passed away Nov. 12, 2012, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.
Bernard was born Feb. 29, 1920, at Amherst, to Donald Roy and Helen (Hubbard) Green. Bernard went to Amherst High School, then farmed with his father at Amherst until he hired on at the Union Pacific Railroad. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December 1944 and served until December 1948. After his discharge from the Navy, he returned to the family farm. He married Joyce Wilson Wuehler in 1964. He then returned to the Union Pacific Railroad for 32 years, retiring in 1971. After retirement they moved to Hershey, where they had a small farm, which he enjoyed for 29 years. In 1994, they moved back to North Platte, where Bernard belonged to the VFW, DAV, American Legion and the United Transportation Union.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce, of North Platte; children, Larry B. (Lynne) Green, of Grove, Okla., Roger Green, of Jefferson City, Mo., Carol (Leroy) Hernandez, of Hershey, Richard (Micaela) Wuehler, of North Platte, Stephen H. Wuehler, of North Platte, Allan R. Green, of Madison, Gregory C. (Janet) Green, of Omaha, Kevin M. (Joan) Green, of Minatare; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and one brother, Myron Green, of Ivy, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Green, Morris Green, Frank Green and Rex Green; one son, Douglas A. Green, of Rollanobe, Texas; and a granddaughter, Sarah Christine (Hernandez) Nida, of North Platte.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov 15, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at LaMont Cemetery, Hershey, with military honors graveside. John W. Spelts


John W. Spelts, age 78 of North Platte, passed away November 11, 2012 at Cozad. He was born April 1, 1934 To John and Lucille (Gumm) Spelts. He attended Madrid High School and later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. John was united in marriage to Verna Joy Fister on May 28, 1958 at Ogallala. They moved to North Platte in 1960, and was employed by the U.P.P.R as a fireman/oiler. He was a member of the V.F.W and past member of the Knights of Columbus. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, and playing horseshoes. Survivors include his wife, Verna of North Platte, his son Randy (Harriet) Spelts of North Platte, his daughter, Julie (Kai) Nylander of Aliso Viejo, CA, brothers, Dan (Jean Ann) Spelts of Arlington, TX and Doug (Georgia) Spelts of Cambria, CA, grandchildren, Hilary, Michael, and Molly Spelts, and Ashley Nylander. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Lou Otterstein and Lola Johnson. A memorial has been established in his memory. Memorial services will be 10:30 am, Monday, November 19, 2012 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Inurnment will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery with military honors graveside. Cremation was chosen. Robert H. Butterfield


Robert H. Butterfield, 66, of North Platte received his Angel wings on November 11, 2012 in Lincoln Nebraska. Born February 28, 1946 in Franklin, NE to Harold and Maurine (Tecker) Butterfield. Bob grew up in Hastings, graduating from Hastings High School in 1965. He attended Lamar Jr. College and later joined the United States Marine Corps where he served in Vietnam from 1967-1969 at which time he fought in the Khe Sanh during the Tet offensive. Honorable discharged from the Marine Corp in 1976. He married Barbara Thompson on November 18, 1972 in North Platte. To this union two sons, Brian and Bradley, were born. Bob worked for Simon’s Construction in North Platte until 1990. He later followed his love for gardening working at Huebner’s, Earl May and lastly at Garden Glove. He enjoyed coaching his sons and many others in various sports. He loved watching his grandchildren play basketball, baseball and football. Bob loved his pond, spending many summer hours expanding it and showing it off to whoever wanted to see it. Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara Butterfield; sons, Brian (Christina) Butterfield and Bradley (Misty) Butterfield, grandchildren, Bryce, Carter, Jaxon and Kamryn Butterfield and Jayden Shannon, all of North Platte. Brother, Tim Butterfield (Kathy Smith), of Omaha; mother-in-law Grace Schutte of North Platte, brothers-in-law Jerry (Cheryl) Thompson, Rich (Mardell) Thompson, Tim (Tracy) Thompson, all of North Platte. Special friends Joe Vogel of Ruskin, FL and Ben Klozenbutcher of Waverly, NE and numerous nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded by his parents, Harold and Maurine Butterfield, grandparents, Allen and Louise Butterfield and Harry and Elsie Tecker, and father-in-law, Walter Thompson.
A memorial has been established for Babe Ruth Youth Baseball in North Platte.
Memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov 15 at 10:30 a.m. at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 402 Baytree Ave., inurnment at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery following services. Bob’s family request casual dress at service.

Eugene T. Wolfe


Eugene T. Wolfe, 81, passed away peacefully on Oct. 28, 2012, surrounded by his family.
Gene was born on April 13, 1931, in Cambridge, to the late Lloyd and Irene Wolfe. He attended Cambridge High School where he lettered in football, basketball and track.
He served in the Navy from 1950-54 in the 103rd Seabees and enjoyed playing for the Navy football team, while serving his country. During his military service, he met his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth Betlach, in California. They married in 1954 and spent most of their years in Nebraska.
He started Gene’s Drywall Company in North Platte in 1963, which he operated until they moved to Texas in 1987.
Gene’s hobby was the outdoors, as he enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking care of his animals. He loved the Rangers and the Mavericks, but his true passion was Huskers football.
A special thank you goes to the St. John’s Residential Care Home, Judith and Leito Tan-pascual and the staff, Steve, Philip, Lina and Elizabeth.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Mary; and sister, Charlene.
He will live on through our memories and be dearly missed.
Survivors are his children, Cathy (Mark) Flotree, of Lincoln, Carrie (Gib) Rossetter, of Fort Worth, Joe (Trecia) Wolfe, of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Paul L. Clemmons Jr.


Paul L. Clemmons Jr., 53, of Hastings, passed away Nov. 9, 2012, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings.
Paul was born on April 9, 1959, in Danville, Ill., to Paul L. and Lucille (Casillo) Clemmons Sr.
He married Kathleen Blackbird Rattlinghail on March 5, 1990, in Hastings. Paul worked as a meat cutter at Allen’s in Hastings and also worked for the Barrel Bar. He thoroughly enjoyed cooking and took great pride in preparing meals.
Paul was preceded in death by his mother.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen, of Hastings; sons, Nick (Coryna) Clemmons, of North Platte, Antonio Clemmons, of North Platte, David (Tosha) Medrano, of Rawlings, Wyo., Ray Sanchez, of Hastings; daughters, Cathy (Chad) Oleshlager, of Hastings, Brandy (Chad) Fuller, of Grand Island; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; father, Paul L. Clemmons Sr., of Stapleton; sisters, Pamela S. Clemmons York, of Clearwater, Fla., Betty L. Clemmons, of Stapleton, Jessie L. (Kent) Ditter, of Torrington, Wyo.; nephews, Martin Lowe and Chad Wonch; niece, Jessica Lowe; and numerous other family.
There will be no services. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, with family present from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bernice Bebee


Bernice Bebee, 85, of Cozad, passed away Nov. 11, 2012, at the Golden Living Care Center in Cozad.
Bernice was born on April 10, 1927, at Sparta, Wis., to Hayward and Lizzie (Williams) Garvis. She attended rural school at Sparta.
On April 15, 1945, she married Henry “Mike” Bebee at Sparta, Wis. The couple made their home in Wisconsin until 1952, when they moved to Cozad. Their union was blessed with five sons, Don, David, Duane, Doug and Michael.
While in Cozad, Bernice worked at Evans Bakery, the Cozad Hospital, Walker’s Motel and eventually Monroe Auto, where she retired after nearly 15 years. Bernice and Mike traveled regularly during their retirement, often spending winters in Arizona.
Bernice enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing Bingo and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her five sons, Don Bebee, of Grand Island, David (Karen) Bebee, of Union City, Calif., Duane (Lori) Bebee Sr., of Grand Island, Doug (Patricia) Bebee, of Liberty, Mo., Michael (Debbie) Bebee, of Glendale, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Kay Scripter


Kay Scripter, 73, of North Platte passed away November 11, 2012 at Omaha.
Kay was born Jan. 30, 1939 in McCook, NE to Tom & Anne (Dillon) Cotton.
She grew up in McCook and graduated from McCook High School. She attended teacher’s college, at the University of Northern Colorado. Kay married Eldon “Chub” Mapes and later married Chuck Scripter. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and also enjoyed watching football. She is survived by three sons, Brian (Jill) Mapes of Arvada, CO., Scott Mapes of Chankussen, MN; and Mike (Jessica) Mapes of Thornton, CO.; one brother, Tom (Ardis) Cotton of Deer Lodge, MT., and four grandchildren, Monica, Brett, Aiden and Ella. Kay was preceded by her parents, one brother, Bill and one sister, ReNea Sandry. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov 16, 2012 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, with Dr. Douglas A. Delp officiating.

Donald John Arensdorf


Donald John Arensdorf, age 86, of Lincoln, formerly of North Platte, passed away on Nov. 10, 2012, at Bryan LGH East.
Don was born April 9, 1926, south of Sutherland, to John Peter and Susie (Unruh) Arensdorf, the fourth of eight children. He attended school in Maxwell and County Center, and then St. Patrick’s School in North Platte. He graduated from St. Pat’s in 1944 and was drafted into the Army that same year. He served in action in the Philippine Islands and Korea. He was honorably discharged in July 1946.
Don returned to North Platte and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad until he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a postal carrier in 1948. He retired after 35 years of service. After retirement from the USPS, he worked various part-time jobs at the Pepsi Bottling Co., manager of the VFW, and drove the Handi-bus.
He married Rose Mae Fuller. To this union three daughters were born: Shirley Rae, Sharon Kay and Nancy Ann. Don was preceded in death by his wife Rose; his brothers, Francis (Fritz), Edmon (Ed), Dean, and Marvin Arensdorf; his sisters Doris Clinch Maline and Garnet Lehl; and grandson Donovan Martin.
Don is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jean; and daughters, Shirley (Ron) Roeber in Lincoln, Sharon (Dennis) Seaton in Baton Rouge, La., and Nancy Arensdorf in Lincoln. He has three step-daughters, Deborah (Douglas) Pierce-Cramer in Grand Island, Dee Ann (John) Gross in Osawatomie, Kan., and Susan (Mark) Synovec in Auburn, Kan. He has 11 grandchildren, Sarah (Michael) Crawford, Seth Synovec, Kyle (Ashley) Roeber, Todd Roeber, Lindsay Martin, Benjamin Martin, Stacey Pierce, Dustin Pierce, Amy Marick, Greg (Anna) Gross, Laura (Derrick) Moore; two great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Tryg Moore; his brother, Robert (Lovettta) Arensdorf; as well as sisters-in-laws, many nieces and nephews and step-grandchildren.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Don loved the outdoors. Spending time with his family and playing cards were favorite activities.
Don was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in North Platte, and of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Lincoln. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, V.F.W., the Knights of Columbus, and the National Association of Letter Carriers.
