Bruce William Lobdell, 83, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died October 14, 2012 in Gothenburg, NE.

Bruce was born on April 12, 1929 to Everet and Ella Lobdell in Lexington, NE. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Cozad, NE He attended Lexington High School and joined the US Army in 1948 and served his country until 1950.On September 30, 1950 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Helen Cler Wood. To this union, three children were born: Gary Lobdell, Marlene(Larry) Fiese, and Sandi (Mike) Brown.

Bruce and his wife farmed in the Cozad area until he went to work for Monroe Auto Equipment. He retired from Monroe’s in 1991. They enjoyed 13 years of traveling after his retirement where they saw 49 of the 50 states.Bruce was an avid gardener. He took great pride in his hostas and flowers. Bruce was also avid Husker Fan. However, Bruce’s true love was his family. He always had a special place in his heart for his kids and grandkids.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents Everet and Ella, three sisters – Pat, Caroline, and Beverly; one brother Rodney, and a step-daughter Lana.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Lobdell, son Gary Lobdell of Lincoln, daughter Marlene Fiese of Gothenburg, daughter Sandi Brown of North Platte,; grandchildren: Jason, Casey, Scott, Cameron, Torey, Hillary, Whitney, step-grandchildren Josh, Cassie, Chantel and great-grandchildren Ava, Cash, and Brady.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Wednesday, October 17, 2012 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

Services will be held at American Lutheran Church, October 18, 2012 at 10:30 am with Pastor Tom Wilson, Lonna Grabenstein PMA officiating.

Interment will follow in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery.

Charles E. “Chuck” Edwards, age 80, of North Platte, died October 14, 2012 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. Chuck was born on September 8, 1932 in Cozad, NE to Edward N. and Eva (Kaiser) Edwards.
Chuck attended school in Cozad and North Platte, graduating from North Platte High School. He then began working for Hoppe Lumber until entering the U.S. Army on March 14, 1956. After his discharge on March 13, 1958, he returned to Hoppe Lumber where he worked until his health forced his retirement in 1991. He married Fran Krause in 1958. She preceded him in death in 1986. In 1995, Chuck married Doris Burch.
Chuck was a wonderful husband and father, always taking time for his boys. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, and for the wonderful care that he took of his mother and Aunt Max in their later years.
Survivors include his wife Doris of North Platte; a son, Rick Edwards of North Platte; a step-son, Danny Knuter of North Platte; three sisters, Mary DeLeFe of California, Barb (Dean) Eckel of Omaha, and Debbie (Bill) Volbreth of California; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Fran, a brother, Paul Edwards, and a brother-in-law, Ralph DeLeFe. Dorthe Marie Jensen, age 90 formerly of Chappell, NE, passed away October 14, 2012 in North Platte. Dorthe was born on March 28, 1922 in Chicago, IL to William and Clara (Sylvano) Affleck. She grew up in Chicago, graduating from high school there. Dorthe worked at various clerical jobs before moving with her family to Ogallala.
Dorthe met Mervin Jensen and the couple was married in Ogallala on June 17, 1950. They moved to Chappell, NE where she worked part time at Mervin’s insurance agency. She also owned a fabric shop for several years, was a past city councilwoman and a member of the Methodist Church. Dorthe was a welcoming person and loved to share her excellent cooking. She was very interested in other people and never knew a stranger.
Dorthe is survived by her sons Peter “Cory” (JoJo) Jensen of North Platte, Todd (Julie) Jensen of Aurora, NE; daughter Teresa Jensen; sister Mary Osterman of McCook, NE; grandchildren Tyler (Cara) Jensen of Wayne, NE, Kylie (Quintin) Penner of Lincoln, NE, Connor Jensen of Aurora, NE, Rebecka Jensen of Michigan, James Jensen of Kearney, NE, Matthew Jensen of Kearney, NE, Nichole Armentrout of Colorado, Jennifer (Robert) Maestas of Denver, CO, Jeremy (fiancé Lupe Comparan) Jensen of Sidney, NE, and Alexis Sherman of Chicago, IL; great grandchildren Tate Jensen of Wayne, NE, Noelleona Armentrout, Soriya Armentrout of Colorado, Alexis Maestas of Denver and Mark Jensen of Sidney, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Mervin; brother William Affleck; and sister Emily Wlaschin.

Our beloved Mother, Edith R. Coombe, died on Sunday, October 14, 2012, surrounded by her family at Linden Court in North Platte.

Edith was born on February 8, 1921, at Bronaugh, MO. She was the youngest of 11 children born to Andrew Jackson and Edith Rosamond Hill Foster. At the age of eight, her mother died and her father brought her to live with her sister, Dora, in North Platte where she attended school.

On July 26, 1936, Edith married her high school sweetheart, Walter Thomas Coombe at Ringgold, NE. They were longtime residents of Lincoln County where they farmed and ranched for over 50 years. Edith worked right alongside Walter all her life.

Edith loved flowers and had her own garden. She was an avid collector of carnival glass for over 50 years and was a fabulous seamstress. She enjoyed quilting and making doll clothes and dresses. Edith was also a great cook who made the best homemade pancakes and peanut brittle.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Dora Grace (Jim) Nowlin, of Huntertown, Indiana and Mary Ellen Coombe, of Houston, Texas; a son, Walter Thomas (Cheri) Coombe, Jr., of Bismarck, North Dakota; her sole surviving sister, Dorothy Cerney, of Riverside, California. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Martin T. Fletcher, Jr., Michele D. Adrian, W. Scott Coombe, Christopher T. Coombe, Ryan J. Coombe and Lindsay A. Coombe; six great-grandchildren, Eliza, Bennett and Jared Fletcher, Susan and John McKenna and Mary Adrian; and other family.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Walter T. Coombe, Sr.; her parents, Andrew and Edith Foster; six brothers; three sisters; and a great-granddaughter, Sarah Adrian.

The family wishes to thank family and friends for all of their prayers and support during this difficult time. The family would also like to thank the wonderful staff of Linden Court for their dedication and care.

Mary Lou Golden, 76, of North Platte, NE died Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

Mary was born February 2, 1936, at Comstock, NE to Garland Peter and Anna Mary Land Bivens. The family moved to Loup City, NE when Mary was 12 years old. She married Ivan Raymond Burson in November 1954, they later divorced. Mary married Walter E. Wells and they moved to Montana where she finished her education under a government program at Mountain Plains in Glasco, MT. They moved to McCook, NE in 1973 and later divorced. Mary waited tables, cooked and worked in nursing.

On October 3, 1975, Mary married Carl Edmond Golden at Hastings, NE. They made their home in McCook until the mid 90’s. After Carl’s death in 1993, Mary moved to North Platte.

Mary was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, R.S.V.P. and Grandmothers’ Club and was a past member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in McCook and North Platte.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Lynn) Wood, of North Platte; her brother, William (Karen) Bivens, of Centralia, IL; two grandchildren, Gregory Wood, of Beatrice, NE and Jessica (William) Bishop, of North Platte; three great-grandchildren, James Breedlove, Andrew Wood and Aubrey Bishop; several nieces, nephews and other family.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; a daughter, Robin Wells; and her parents, Garland and Anna Bivens.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 12, 2012, at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore with Father Neal Hock of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church officiating. James A. Wheeler, age 73 of Ogallala, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2012 at his home.
Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10th followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Luke’s Catholic Church with Fr. Bryan Ernest as celebrant. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.
Jim was born November 12, 1938 at Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Clifford “Hap” and Mary (Brady) Wheeler. He attended elementary school in Council Bluffs. He worked in his father’s drug store as a young man and attended Creighton Prep High School and Creighton University where he was a member of ROTC. He later also attended Automated Institute and received a certificate in computer programming. He worked as a computer programmer for Peter Keiwit and Sons before moving to Ogallala in 1972 to open a Western Auto Store. He was later employed by the Ogallala Community Hospital as a data processor.
Jim was a Boy Scout leader and a youth baseball coach. His hobbies included bowling, gardening, bird watching, puzzles and going to garage sales. He was an active member of the Regional Art Council.
Survivors include two daughters, Therese Wheeler and Mary (Dave) Barnes both of Ogallala; two sons, John (Cathy) Wheeler and Mike (Becky) Wheeler both of Ogallala; one sister, Peggy (Joe) Respeliers of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren, Tony Reyna of Ogallala, Tim (Jenelle) Reyna of Bennett, CO, Tiffany Reyna and fiancé Zeke Peterson of Brule, Camille (Aaron) Ballagh of Burwell, NE, Stephanie (Jeff) Armour of Ogallala, Kelsey (Jake) Snow of Ogallala, Elisha Stanislav of Lincoln, NE, Ryan Barnes of Ogallala, Jennifer (Joe) Rodriquez of Manhattan, KS and Austin Wheeler of Ogallala; and nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathyrn in 2007; his parents, Clifford “Hap” and Mary Wheeler; grandson, Davey Barnes; great granddaughter, Alejandra Reyna; and a niece Kathy Jo Reinhardt.

Margaret B. Westerbuhr, age 90, a longtime Brule resident, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2012 at the Garden County Hospital in Oshkosh.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Brule with Pastor Jon Dickmander officiating. Burial will be in the Brule Cemetery.
Margaret was born December 1, 1921 at Brule, the oldest daughter of Charles and Helen (Pearson) Welsh. She graduated from the Brule High School in 1939 and received a teaching certificate from Kearney State College and taught for five years in Keith County.
On January 12, 1944 she married Elmer Westerbuhr at her parent’s home. In 1960 she started two jobs, working at the Farmer’s Coop in Brule and the Ogallala Livestock Auction in Ogallala. In 1964 she went to work for the Keith County ASCS office retiring in the late 1980’s.
Margaret was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Brule. Amount her interests were crocheting, playing cards, watching Denver Rockies baseball, volunteering at the Senior Center and staying active in her church.
Survivors include one daughter, DeEtta (Bud) Madson of Papillion, NE; one son Delmer (Karen) Westerbuhr of Oshkosh, NE; four grandchildren, Cheryl Madson of Papillion, NE, Chad (Margarita) Madson of Ralston, NE, Sarah Westerbuhr (Dana Sendin) of Loveland, CO and Steve (Tara) Westerbuhr of Lincoln, NE; five great grandchildren, Alex and Angela Madson, Elena Sendin, Jenna and Paige Westerbuhr; one sister, Erma Hulinsky of Brule and many special nieces and nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer in 1980; her parents; one great granddaughter and two sisters, Mildred McCroden and Thelma Wiest.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church of Brule, the Garden County Nursing Home in Oshkosh or the Donor’s Choice in her memory.

Robert Fowler Getty, M.D., age 83 of North Platte, died October 4, 2012 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. He was born July 16, 1929 at Monmouth, IL to Robert Lamont Getty and Lois (Fowler) Getty.
The family moved to North Platte in 1939 where Robert attended the North Platte public schools, graduating from North Platte High School in 1947. Robert attended Grinnell College, receiving a bachelor’s degree with a major in chemistry in 1951. He also attended the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, receiving the M.D. degree in 1955.
Robert married Naomi Nettleton June 24, 1955 at York, NE. Four children were born to this union.
Following internship at Immanuel Deaconess Institute in Omaha, and military service in the U.S. Air Force at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, KS, Robert returned to North Platte, where he began practicing family medicine in the fall of 1958. He practiced medicine in North Platte for 43 years. He was on the medical staffs of Memorial and St. Mary’s Hospitals, and when Great Plains Regional Medical Center opened he continued on its medical staff. Dr. Getty worked during the 1960s’s and 1970’s on the effort to combine the two small hospitals into a single hospital, and to encourage new physicians to come to North Platte. Robert was a pioneer in North Platte, encouraging general practitioners to work with specialists for obtaining better patient care.
Robert was a 70-year member of the First Presbyterian Church in North Platte. He served several terms on the Session of the church, and three times as stated clerk of Session. He also taught church school classes as well as short-term Bible studies. Other memberships included the Lincoln County Medical Society, the Nebraska Medical Association, The American Academy of Family Practice and the Nebraska chapter of the AAFP.
Robert is survived by his wife Naomi; sons Robert John (Cindy) Getty of Papillion, NE, and Stephen (Patti Parziale) Getty of Wilmington, DE; daughters Mary (Karl) Haider of Pittsburgh, PA, Margaret Anne (Dan Kissel) Getty of Cranberry Township, PA; and seven grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in North Platte, the Robert F. Getty Scholarship Fund at Great Plains Regional Medical Center, or to the donor’s choice.
