Fay A. Hoban

Fay A. Hoban, 84, of North Platte, passed away August 7, 2018 at his home with his family present. He was born on September 1, 1933 to William P. and Lillian F. (Harrison) Hoban in O’Neill, Nebraska.

Fay was born and raised in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School.  After graduation he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad.

Fay married Patricia F. Gale on July 23, 1953 at North Platte. He was drafted into the Army in support of the Korean War from 1953 – 1955. Fay received his bachelors in mechanical engineering from University of Nebraska in 1964 and obtained his masters in 1968 from UCLA. In 1964, Fay went to work with the Dept of Defense with the Navy, designing guidance units for missile systems until he retired in 1994. He always enjoyed coming back to Nebraska to fish and hunt with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; son, Michael (Martha) Hoban of Bakersfield, CA; daughters, Suzanne Donnally of Oxnard, CA, Diane (Ronald) Berliner of North Platte, Sharon Smith of Sonora, CA and Joanne (Jeff)Hoban of Austin, TX; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; sisters, Gwen (Billy) Golden of North Platte, Dorthy Lee of Pullman, WA;  brothers John “Buck” (Patricia) Hoban of North Platte, Terry (Anna) Hoban of Maxwell, Francis “Andy” (Markie) Hoban of Lewellen; sister-in-law, Marolyn Hoban of North Platte.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ronald Hoban and Morris “Moe” Hoban; sister, Helen Rodgers; sister-in-law, Shirley Hoban and brother-in-law, Richard Lee.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with Pastor James Trippett officiating with military honors. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made in Fay’s name to the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com. Jack McClellen

Jack D. McClellen of North Platte, Nebraska passed peacefully in his home on August 8th, 2018 at the age of 81 years.

He was born on October 20, 1936 to Albert “Mac” and Nellie McClellen in Maxwell, Nebraska where he grew up and graduated. Shortly after, he enlisted in the Air Force where he learned electronics working on airplanes.

After military service, he pursued electronics working in Ogallala, Nebraska where he met Vivien Hornyak. In 1959 they married and soon had a family of 3 children. In 1962 he began his career as a brick mason. He accomplished many goals taking pride in his work and started Scott & McClellen Masonry with his friend Rod Scott. Their business continued for 50 successful years.

He was a member of the Elks and Eagles Club and the American Legion in North Platte. He served on the School Board at Osgood Elementary in North Platte for several years.

Years later he pursued his love of airplanes and earned his private pilots license. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with family and friends.

He is remembered as a caring father and husband with family values that he passed on. He was a gracious host, a kind and fair man who touched the hearts of those who knew him. He was often quoted saying “do the best you can in everything you do” which sums up his life.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Deloit and Gary; his second wife, Verna; special friend, Joyce Harms; and Grandson, Jesse Hornbacher.

He is survived by his brother, Robert McClellen of Hershey; son, James McClellen of Grand Island; daughters, Jolene (Rick) Melton and Jill (Mike) Carroll, of North Platte; grandchildren, Amanda Caudillo of North Platte, Tiffany, Stephanie and Kory McClellen, all of Grand Island, Eric Melton of North Platte, Tonya and Chris Carroll, both of Oklahoma City and several Great Grandchildren.

Services will be held at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte on Monday, August 13th at 11:00 am. Visitation is from 4:00pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, August 12th at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Gaslin Cemetery south of Brady.

Hope Jillynn Wray

Our Miss Hope returned to her Father in Heaven on August 3, 2018. She passed away surrounded by her loving parents at Omaha Children’s Hospital.

Hope Jillynn Wray was born on December 23, 2013 along with her triplet brothers Max and Tate. They had come as long awaited blessings to Josh and Dina Wray. She came into this world with a lot of flair and gusto. Little did the world know what was next.

Hope was the oldest of 6 children and was beloved by each sibling. She loved to sing, swim, and show her beautiful smile to all who crossed her path. She was a daddy’s girl and her mommy’s right hand. Hope loved gymnastics and routinely performed her “bat hangs” on anything she could grip. She was a great example of light and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Hope is survived by her parents and siblings (Max, Tate, Rose, Zane and Cal) all of North Platte; Grandma/Grandpa Wray of Shelley, ID, Grandpa/Grandpa Fisher of Stillwater, OK and Grandma/Grandpa Dill of Tuttle, OK; as well as loving great grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.  She was preceeded in death by her Grandma Jill Hammer Wray.

Bertha Mae Keys

Bertha Mae Keys, age 80 of Broken Bow, NE, passed away Sunday August 5, 2018 at Brookstone View in Broken Bow with her son Dale and daughter-in-law Carrie at her side.

Bertha was born May 3, 1938 in a small house on Highway 2 in Broken Bow, NE to Otto G. and Della Martha (Waters) Lewis of Arnold, NE.  She grew up on the family farm in Milburn, NE and graduated from Anselmo High School with the class of 1956.  She worked in a small café in Seneca, NE making .33 ½ cents per hour.  She met Donald Dale Keys at the café, and on July 26, 1957 they were married in her parents’ home in Broken Bow.  She spent most of her life in Halsey, raising her children.  She was a house painter, as well as running a café in Halsey where she created lots of memories and friendships.  She also took over the mail route from her mother-in-law, Marrie Keys, and carried the mail for several years.  She and Don moved to North Platte in 1997 to be closer to their son Dale and his family; Don passed away in September of 1999.

Bertha is survived by her children Della (Dave) Bennion of Costa Mesa, CA, Delores (Larry) Sonnenfelt of Columbus, NE, and Dale (Carrie) Keys of North Platte, NE; five grandchildren Natasha and Troy Bennion, Ty Sonnenfelt, Terri (Kurt) Miller, and DJ (Dannielle) Keys; eight great grandchildren all of NE; as well as other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Don; her parents Otto and Della Lewis; and two brothers.

Judy JoAnn Bahnsen

Judy JoAnn Bahnsen, 72, of North Platte went to be with the Lord on  August 5, 2018 at her home.

Judy was born May 17, 1946 in Dickens, NE to Charles and Maxine (Childers) Parker.  She attended elementary school in Maywood until the family moved to North Platte.  Judy graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1964.  On March 4, 1967 she married her soul mate, Delbert Bahnsen.

Judy worked as a laundress at the Right Way Laundry, Memorial Hospital, Master Cleaners, Parisian Cleaners, and Liberty Cleaners, retiring in 2010.

She enjoyed T.V., movies, and movie trivia, jigsaw puzzles, and being a mom and grandma.  She will be remembered as a loving, positive and caring woman.

Survivors include her husband, Del of North Platte; son, Dan (Jennifer Wilkie) Bahnsen; grandchildren, Reanna, Michael, Caleb, Joshua, Christopher, and Alyssa; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Barb Pelham; several nieces, nephews, and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jody Lynn Knight; sister, Carolyn Schnacker; and aunts, Lee Parker and Charlotte Ballard.

Cremation was chosen.  Memorial Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the Victory Church of God with Pastor Walker Baird officiating. Hope Wray Death Notice

Hope Jillynn Wray, age 4 of North Platte, passed away Friday August 3,2018 at Children’s Hospital in Omaha, NE.  Services are pending at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home.

Harry E. Norman

Harry E. Norman, 84, passed away July 31, 2018 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  He had been living with his daughter, Trina.  Harry was born on November 13, 1933 in Big Springs, Nebraska to Ralph E. Norman and Ora Watkins.  He had nine loving brothers and sisters.  After graduating from high school, Harry went directly into the United States Air Force and served his country in the Korean War.  After his discharge from the Air Force, Harry began traveling around the midwest building grain elevators and doing general construction.  While working in Stratton, Colorado, he met his lifelong love, Gladys Smelker.  They married in 1959 and had four children.  Gladys passed away on February 7, 2013.   Harry & Gladys moved to North Platte, Nebraska where he began working for Musgrove Construction.  Harry was a hard-working man who always put his family first.  He partnered with Martin Piskorski in the early 1970’s and together they purchased General Constructors and built many commercial buildings in the Nebraska & Colorado areas, including Centennial Retirement Center, St. Patrick’s Parish Center and Callahan Cancer Center, among many others.

Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; his parents, Ralph & Ora; brothers, Ordell, Verdell, Maynard & Donald; sisters, Lorraine, Eleanor, Esther & Marilyn; and one great-grandson, Nolan Petersen.

He is survived by family who thought the absolute world of their dad, grandad and great-grandad.  Survivors include his sister, Ardith Sexson; his children, Diana (Todd) Petersen, Trina Norman, Steve (Teresa) Norman, and Rhonda (James) Bopp; his grandchildren, Sarah (Sean) Hull, Carey (Ka’Ron) Johnson, Matt (Angela) Petersen, Alanna Peterson, Ryan Hill, Noah Hill, Greggory Norman, Grant Norman, Natalie (Matt) Schneider, Mariah Bopp, and Anah Bopp; and his great-grandchildren are Alexander Hull, Abigail Hull, Ella Schneider, Greyson Schneider and Willa Petersen.  All of his family loved him dearly and will continue his legacy with honor and pride.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 6th at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte, Nebraska with burial following at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska.  Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday evening, August 5th at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.  Friends & family are welcome.  Online condolences may be shared at carpentermemorial.com

Willma Jane Guggenmos

Wilma Jane Guggenmos, age 82 of Ogallala, NE passed away Wednesday August 1, 2018 at Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE.

Wilma was born on July 2, 1936 in Bucyrus, Ohio to Willis Carl and Helen Edith (Grasely) Steiger.  She married John M. Guggenmos at the Assembly of God Church on December 30, 1982.

Wilma is survived by her husband of 35 years, John; stepdaughter Shelly Lynn (Greg) Guggenmos-Rodriquez of Westminster, CO; 6 step grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; brother-in-law James Guggenmos of Ogallala, NE; sisters-in law Vivian D. Peterson of Keystone, NE and Yvonne (Rick) Turner of Gering, NE; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Willis and Helen Steiger.

Memorials are suggested to the Assembly of God Church in Ogallala, Nebraska and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.  Cremation was chosen, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.  Adams and Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
