Dorothy Marie Kramer

Dorothy Marie Kramer, a.k.a. “Grandma Monkey”, age 94, formerly of Tryon, NE, passed away Wednesday July 11, 2018 at Linden Court in North Platte, NE.

Dorothy was born October 26, 1923 in Ringgold, NE to Warren and Ora (Miller) Winters.  As a grade school student, she rode horseback to school with her brothers Glenn and Roy.  When it came time for high school, the kids stayed with their Uncle Melvin and Aunt Ethel Miller because it was 9 miles for them to drive one way.  After high school she taught school for 2 ½ years at District #1 and #23.  She married Clay Kemp on May 2, 1942 and they had 5 children, Francis “Corky”, Dora, Otis, Kenneth, and Clyta.  The couple worked for other people on ranches and farms and rented on their own when they were able to.  They moved to Tryon in 1970 and Clay passed away in March 1973.  She was well known for her Halloween popcorn balls.  Over the years Dorothy was the organizational leader of the Sandy Soapweeders 4-H Club for 20 years, and a member of the Willing Workers FCE Club.  In 2010 Dorothy received an FCE pin honoring her 55 years of service.  In February 1974 she married Wayne Kramer.  They took in a lot of roping and rodeos and were substitute mail carriers on the route west of Tryon 3 days a week; she also cleaned the McPherson County Courthouse.  Together they were able to enjoy bus tours around the United States.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Francis “Corky” (Vickie) Kemp of North Platte, Dora Kemp of Valentine, Kenneth (Jan) Kemp of North Platte and Clyta (Jerry) Alexander of North Platte; 17 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; sisters Esther (Dale) Arensdorf of Tryon, Wilma Neal of North Platte and Alma Bullington of North Platte; sisters-in-law Virginia Parr, Mary Kemp and Ruth Kemp; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents Warren and Ora Winters; husbands Clay Kemp and Wayne Kramer; son Otis; brothers Glenn and Roy Winters; and sister Alice Winters.

Memorials are suggested to the Tryon Volunteer Rescue and Fire Dept. or the McPherson County Alumni Fund and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.  Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday July 17, 2018 at the Tryon Methodist Church with Reverend Insung Kim officiating.  Burial will follow at the Miller Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday July 16, 2018 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

Michael Daniel Peterson Death Notice

Imogene Lois Boyle

Imogene Lois Boyle, age 95, of North Platte, NE, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Linden Court.

Imogene was born August 3, 1922, at Lincoln, NE, to Alphons P. and Randina M. (Kvam) Henn. She grew up in Albion, NE, where she graduated from high school.

On November 16, 1946, Imogene was united in marriage to Carroll James Boyle at Julesburg, CO. They lived in Columbus, NE, until Carroll was transferred to North Platte with his job on the railroad. The couple raised three children and were co-owners of the Corner Grocery until 1969. Imogene later went to work as a secretary for Judge Stewart then after four years she was elected Clerk of the District Court of Lincoln County. She held her position for 12 years before retiring in 1987.

Imogene was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and American Legion Auxiliary Post #163. Following her retirement, Imogene learned to play golf and swim then joined the Water Lilies Aquasize Girls swim group. She did yoga for many years, was an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing. Imogene was also a big sports fan. She loved watching the Huskers, especially football and volleyball, and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll; parents, Alphons and Randina Henn; and brother, Kenneth Henn.

Imogene is survived by her children, John (Beth) Boyle, of Greeley, CO, James (Christi) Boyle, of North Platte and Janet (Tim) Haith, of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Karli (John) Hoffmeier, Pam (Gene) Blondel, Angie (Josh) Crowner, Karie (Lester) Sheets, Megan (Nick) Davis and Brian Boyle; great-grandchildren, Camron, Jaylee, Connor, Jakob, Aidan and Allison; niece, Pam (Craig) Smith, of Arnold, NE; nephew, Dennis (Kris) Henn, of Lincoln, NE; and other family.

Cremation was chosen. Graveside Memorial Service and inurnment will be 3 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2018, in Fort McPherson National Cemetery with Pastor Steven Berke officiating. Shane Folk

Shane Folk, age 53, passed away Tuesday July 10, 2018 at his home in North Platte, surrounded by his treasured family after a 2 ½ year battle with colon cancer.

Shane was born August 22, 1964 in Mullen, NE to Jim and Ruby (Younkin) Folk.  He attended school K-12 in Mullen where he was an outstanding quarterback and safety for the Mullen Broncos Football team, earning all state honors.  He also excelled in golf and wrestling and was the 1982 Class D State Champion Wrestler at 105 pounds.  He was crowned homecoming king and graduated from Mullen High School in 1982.  He attended college at Kearney State and then returned home to Mullen to work in the family business, Farmers Elevator.  He later worked at the Coldwater Fish Hatchery and for 20 years at Federal Express Freight in North Platte.

Shane married Tonya Boots in Mullen on June 14, 1991 and they were blessed with three children, Brendan, Brett and Haeley.  Shane loved spending time with his family and friends, camping and fishing for walleye at Lake McConaughey and hunting deer, turkeys, pheasants and coyotes in the Sandhills.  He loved all sports and was an avid supporter of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, North Platte Bulldogs and Mullen Broncos and was extremely proud to be a North Platte Legion Baseball and University of Nebraska Kearney Football Dad.  He loved to tell jokes and stories and play practical jokes on his friends and family.  He never met a stranger and everyone who knew him loved him.  He was funny, friendly and outgoing and a great friend to many people.  But his greatest pride and joy in his life were his 3 children and he was a wonderful father and husband.

Shane is survived by Tonya, his wife of 27 years; children Brendan of Kearney, NE, Brett of Lincoln, NE, and Haeley at home; parents Jim and Ruby Folk of Mullen, NE; brother and sister-in-law Terry (Maria) Folk of Ogallala, NE; sister and brother-in-law Mendy (Steve) Stichka of Mullen, NE; and sister Lori Folk of Mullen, NE.  He also leaves his beloved nieces and nephews Emily and Kaylee Folk, Evan Folk, Michael and Matthew Stichka, and Gregory Smith; many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family, as well as so many friends across the country, and his loyal Labrador, Maggie.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents George and Rana Younkin; his paternal grandparents Lewis and Inez Folk; uncles Clyde and George Younkin Jr. and Lewis Don Folk; aunt Marian Folk Downing; and brother-in-law Tom Boots.

Elsie Marlene Minshull

Elsie Marlene Minshull, 81, of North Platte, NE, passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Linden Court.

Marlene was born on February 24, 1937, to Herman Fredrick and Elsie Minnie (Ritz) Stark at Loup City, NE. Three years later the family moved to Sutherland, NE, where Marlene grew up and graduated from high school in 1954.

On May 27, 1954, Marlene was united in marriage to Charles Floyd Minshull in Ogallala, NE, and they made their home in Sutherland. Marlene later attended college and earned her BA in Education from Kearney State College in 1969. She went on to teach in Hershey, Sutherland, Ogallala and eventually at the Birdwood School until it burned down. Marlene retired from teaching in 1992 but continued to do substitute teaching for a while and also did in-home health care.

After her husband died, Marlene moved to North Platte where she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Marlene was kind and helpful to others. She loved her family and being around children and especially enjoyed reading to her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Lyle (Chrys) Minshull, of North Platte and Cheryl (Patrick) Doyon, of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Rebecca (Brandon) Jones and Derek (Amy) Minshull; great-grandchildren, Ashtyn Jones and Jaxon, Alexis and Maximus Minshull; sister-in-law, Jean Harlow White Stark, of North Platte; two nieces, a nephew and other family.

Along with her husband, Charles, Marlene was preceded in death by their son, Kirk; her parents, Herman and Elsie Stark; brother, Marvin Stark; and infant sister, Ella Mae Stark.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Polly K. Deppen-Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, south of Sutherland. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements. John L. Sullivan

John L. Sullivan, 86, of rural Wallace, died July 6, 2018, at Linden Court in North Platte.

He was born on Aug. 19, 1931, south of Wallace, to Ed and Genevieve (Priest) Sullivan. He went to grade school in rural Hayes County and graduated from St. Patrick High School in North Platte. John was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wallace, where he married Donna Johnson in 1950. They lived and actively farmed on the family farm (on a third generation and now a fifth generation farm) since marriage.

John was a volunteer fireman, a director of Farmer’s State Bank of Wallace and a member of the North Platte Catholic Schools Endowment fund. He formed Sullivan Equipment Inc. in the 1950s, building customized fire trucks and equipment for departments from southeast to northwest Nebraska. In the 1960s, the company converted to the ag chemical and fertilizer business and helped introduce liquid fertilizer use and eco-fallow methods in southwest Nebraska. Throughout his life, John supported agriculture by serving as president of Nebraska-Wyoming Wheat Growers; director and chairman of the Nebraska Wheat Board in Lincoln; founding member and board member of the Gasohol Board, which became the Ethanol Board in Lincoln; board member of Great Plains Wheat in Garden City, Kansas; founding member of National Association of Wheat Growers in Washington, D.C.; and secretary-treasurer of Western Wheat Associates in Portland, Oregon. John L. Sullivan was a key member who helped combine Great Plains Wheat and Western Wheat in to what is now U.S. Wheat Associates, the organization that promotes wheat all over the world. These positions gave him the opportunity to travel worldwide promoting Nebraska wheat and all U.S. agriculture.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister-in-law, Mary Alyce Sullivan.

John is survived by Donna, his loving wife of 68 years; children, Cynthia (Robert) Wusk of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Larry (Pam) Sullivan of Deadwood, South Dakota, Joyce (Steve) Tarris of Tucson, Arizona, Mike (Terri) Sullivan of Wallace and Doug (Michelle) Sullivan of Wallace; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Sullivan; and a sister-in-law, Altha Nielsen.

Due to allergies, the family requests no flowers. A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Wallace, with Father Tom Bush officiating. Burial will be at the Wallace Morning View Cemetery. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 9, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Wallace. Bullock-Long Funeral Home, Grant, is in charge of arrangements.

Karen Lee Newman Rood

Karen Lee Newman Rood, 76, died June 30, 2018, at Premier Estates Assisted Living in North Platte, surrounded by her family and Angels on Earth.

She was born on Jan. 6, 1942, at Moorehouse Hospital in Benkelman in Dundy County to Alvin Purl Newman and Ruth Rose Bunning Newman. She was the oldest of three children. At the age of 3½, the family moved to the mountains near Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where she enjoyed riding horses, hunting rattlesnakes with her brother and playing. Some of her fondest memories of this period of her life were being driven to school by team and wagon, watching her dad ride in rodeos and attending Sunday services at a little log church with picnics to follow at Yellowstone National Park. At the age of 10, the family returned to McCook, and it was here that she attended junior high and high school.

In 1957, she met and married Robert Duane Wyman and to this union five children were born. They lived in the south central Nebraska area until the children grew, and in 1976, they divorced.

For most of her adult life, she worked in the medical field caring for others. In 1991, she graduated from Mid-Plains Community College with her licensed practical nursing degree and enjoyed being a caregiver until the age of 72. If everyone who Karen touched reached out to the person on either side, the circle would be big enough to go around the world.

In 1991, she moved to Broken Bow. She met and married Richard Rood in 1997, and they divorced in 1999. In 2014, she moved to North Platte to be closer to family due to failing health.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Rood of Broken Bow; her father, Alvin Purl Newman of Funk; her mother, Ruth Rose (Bunning) of Broken Bow; a special mother, Velma Marie Newman of Commerce City, Colorado; a brother, James Alvin Newman of Stamford; a sister, Rita Jean Looney of Atlanta; a sister-in-law, Karen Rae Newman of Stamford; a brother-in-law, Kirk Looney of Atlanta; daughters-in-law, Donna Wyman of Lexington and Phyllis Wyman of Whitewater, Kansas; and a granddaughter, Angie Schade of Kearney.

She is survived by three sons, Craig Wyman of Gothenburg; Randy Wyman of Whitewater, Kansas, and Todd Wyman of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho; two daughters, Nancy (Roger) Robinson of North Platte and Cindy Burg of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sisters, Velva (Les) Hall of Broomfield, Colorado, Carolyn Webb of Livingston, Texas, and Carol (Darrell) Goodner of Broken Bow; brothers, Timothy Parker of Albion, David Parker of North Platte and Steve Parker of Lincoln; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Diane Louise McMurry Cleveland Evans

Diane Louise McMurry Cleveland Evans, 48, went to her Lord June 16, 2018, in Dallas, Texas.

She was born on May 17, 1970, in McLaughlin, South Dakota, to Robert Wayne and Anita McMurry.

She is survived by her mother, Anita McMurry of Maywood; father, R. Wayne McMurry of North Platte; brother, Jerome Reinert of Maywood; sister, Donna Benell of Maywood; nephews, Brett of Stapleton and Jesse of Maywood; a niece, Lacie Benell of Maywood; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Celebration of her life was on Monday, July 9, under the cover at Cody Park. Cremation was chosen.

Kay Anne (Gillette) Krueger

Kay Anne (Gillette) Krueger, 76, entered into rest July 3, 2018.

She was born on June 25, 1942. She grew up in Monett, Missouri, and attended Burge School of Nursing in Springfield, Missouri, where she received her Bachelor’s of Science in nursing and became a registered nurse.

She married Darrell Krueger on June 15, 1963, and started her career at Burge Hospital. She and Darrell moved to Hastings, where she worked at Mary Lanning Hospital, and then moved again in 1979 to North Platte, where she began her long career at Great Plains Medical Regional Center. Her nursing career spanned the areas of surgery, emergency room, same day surgery and recovery room.

She loved her flowers and enjoyed spending countless hours in her garden. She also loved music, in particular, rock’n’roll. She went to many concerts of the hard rock variety, for which Darrell provided body guard support. She also enjoyed traveling and was able to go to Hawaii three times, Australia once and visited various states. In 2012, she moved to Plano, Texas, to be by her two daughters and families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Neil Gillette and Alma Kathryn Jerome-Gillette; and sister, Dorothy Gillette-Carrithers.

She is survived by her husband, Darrell Krueger; her two daughters, Dara Adams and Jennifer Becker; her son, Brandon Krueger; and 10 grandkids.

Michael C. Keith

Michael C. Keith, of La Center, Washington, passed away June 12, 2018.

He was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and graduated from high school in North Platte with the class of 1995. He attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, and University of Nebraska Agriculture School in Curtis.

He was a fire sprinkler fitter and a member of UA No. 669. He was employed by McKinstry Inc.

He was a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. He loved life to the fullest and enjoyed anything outdoors. His mantra was “Trials and tribulations, laughter and love, life is a beautiful thing.”

He coached his sons in baseball and soccer. He had a zest for fishing, camping, hiking, golf and the beach.

He was preceded in death by his father, Michael L. Keith of Omaha; and grandmother, Dona McIntosh of North Platte.

He is survived by his wife, Shanna; two sons, Michael, 13, and Carson, 11; his mother, Christine; stepfather, Gaylord “Punky” Poff of La Center; his stepmother, Mary Keith of Omaha; his grandfather, Jerry McIntosh, and grandmother, Marion Keith, both of North Platte; two sisters, Nicole Judd of La Center and Jennifer Poff of North Platte; two brothers, Joey Poff of Sacramento, California, and John Keith of Omaha; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 15, at the Centennial Park Gazebo, North Platte. Casual dress is requested. Bring your lawn chair. A light lunch will follow the celebration.
