Michael Scott Holsten

Michael Scott Holsten, 60, of North Platte, NE, died Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at Great Plains Health.

Michael was born October 31, 1957, in Omaha, NE, to Roger Wendell and Barbara Ann (Cox) Holsten. He grew up and attended school in North Platte. As a teenager, Michael began drywalling with his dad and continued doing so throughout his life.

Michael was very artistic. He enjoyed fishing and being outdoors, and especially cared for his dog, Stewie, and his cats.

He is survived by his sisters, Kimberly Whitson, of North Platte and Bobette Morris (Bill Johnson), of Panama City, FL; special friend, Phyllis Smith, and her son, Joey Smith, of North Platte; aunts and uncles, Beverly Cox, of Hershey, NE, Deb Forbes, of North Platte, Sandie Davidson, of Orting, WA, Clarence (Deanna) Cox, of Yakima, WA, and Stanley Holsten, of Grand Island, NE; niece, Leah Holsten; nephew, Chase Whitson; and other family.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Barbara; sister, Sherri Holsten; brother-in-law, Woody Whitson; uncles, Ray Cox and Dennis Forbes.

Cremation was chosen. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in the North Platte Cemetery. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.

Micheline Jo “Mickie” Phagan Notice of Service Times

Micheline Jo “Mickie” Phagan, age 67 of North Platte, passed away Monday April 23, 2018.  A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday July 14, 2018 at North Platte Cemetery.  Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Doris Marie (Mutchie) Lemmer

Doris Marie (Mutchie) Lemmer, age 97, formerly of North Platte, NE passed away February 26, 2018 in Chandler, AZ.

Doris was born June 15, 1920 in Eddyville, NE to Edward and Elsie (Griffin) Mutchie.  She married Donald Lemmer on December 23, 1946 and together they raised seven children.

Doris was survived by her children Sharon (Jim) Walsh of Chandler, AZ, Steve (Terry) Lemmer of Panama City, FL, Diane Gage of Sacramento, CA, Micheline Phagan of North Platte, NE, and Mark (Sherri) Lemmer of Gulf Breeze, FL.  Mark was the grandson she raised who died suddenly the same day as Doris; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don; her parents; sons Raymond Don and Gary; two grandsons; two brothers and three sisters.

Memorials are suggested in her name and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.  Doris’s daughter Micheline Phagan passed away April 23, 2018 and a graveside service will be held at North Platte Cemetery on Saturday July 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Sagar officiating to honor both Doris and Micheline.  There will be a Celebration of Life picnic at the Centennial Park Gazebo following the service.  Adams and Swanson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Carol Lyn Ristov

Carol Lyn Ristov, age 72, of North Platte, NE, died on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at Great Plains Health.

Carol was born on January 29, 1946, to Alfred Mahlon and Bessie May (McDaniel) Purvis at Ainsworth, NE, where she grew up. When she was a teenager, the family moved to Lexington, NE, and Carol went on to graduate from Lexington High School.

On April 15, 1965, Carol married William Tashev “Bill” Ristov in Lexington. During the summer of ’66 they moved to North Platte where they raised their children. Carol devoted her life to her family and studying the word of God.

One of the happiest days of Carol’s life came on September 6, 1969, when she was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. For the next 49 years she joyfully supported the activities of the local congregation. She greatly enjoyed talking to others about the Bible, especially in the rural areas around North Platte. One of her fondest memories was being able to participate in the construction of the new Kingdom Hall in 1990.

Carol loved reading and studying the Bible, and faithfully did so each day. She had a tender heart for children and animals and was generous and self-sacrificing, always putting the interests of others ahead of her own. Her entire focus was on helping others in any way she could.

Carol is survived by her children, William Ristov, of Grand Island, NE, Anthony (Melea) Ristov, of Broken Bow, NE, and Terence Ristov and Natasha (Dustin) Crowe, of North Platte; six grandchildren, Arri Ristov, Anya Ristov, Carter Ristov, Makenna Ristov, Mason Crowe and Parker Crowe; sisters, Kathleen (Jim) Spegel, of Albany, OR, and MaryLou Sheets, of Deadwood, SD; brother, Jed Purvis, of Florida; several nieces, nephews and other family members.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, their son, Jerome, and her parents.

Cremation was chosen. Memorial Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or prior to the service at Kingdom Hall. Memorials are suggested to the church. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Joyce O’Brien

Barbara Joyce O’Brien, age 87 of North Platte passed away Thursday June 28, 2018 at North Platte Care Center.

Barbara was born November 27, 1930 in North Platte, NE to Harold and Laura (McMichael) Jolliffe.  She grew up and attended school in North Platte, NE.  She married Wayne Harriman and they later divorced.  She then married Scotty Engleman for many years and they later divorced as well.  She married Dan O’Brien and spent many loving years with him prior to his death.  Barbara worked for many years in North Platte until her retirement.  She enjoyed going to bingo two nights each week and being able to visit with all of her bingo friends.  She was a member of the VFW and Eagles Clubs; she enjoyed reading in her spare time, doing word search activity books, and watching game shows while relaxing at her home.  She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; she loved baking treats for them, especially around the holidays.

Barbara is survived by her children, Chris (Roger) Effenbeck of North Platte, Steve Engleman of Sutherland, Kevin Engleman, Sr., Harold Harriman,  and Terry (Wendy) Engleman all of North Platte; daughter-in-law Virginia Engleman of Sutherland; grandchildren Whitney(Justin) Petska of  North Platte, John Engleman of North Platte, Kristi Effenbeck of Lincoln, Shawna (Erik) Cassen of Topeka, KS, Trent Engleman of North Platte, Jennifer Brown  of North Platte, Becky Negley of Paxton, Tony Harriman of ID, Melissa Engleman and Tia (Anthony) Engleman of Cozad, Carrie Engleman of North Platte, and Randall (Phuong) Engleman II of TX, Sara (Brandon) Wilson and Joanna (Mike)Hoover of Kansas City; and several great, and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Laura Jolliffe; husbands, Wayne Harriman, Scotty Engleman and Dan O’Brien; son Edward and his wife Julie Engleman; son Randy Engleman; and grandson Kevin Engleman, Jr.

Memorials are suggested to the North Platte Care Center and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.  Cremation was chosen and a memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday July 10, 2018 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Smith officiating.  Inurnment will follow at the North Platte Cemetery.  Those wishing to do so may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday July 9, 2018 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

Robert “Bob” T. Myers Death Notice

Robert “Bob” T. Myers, 94 of Callaway passed away Wednesday, July 4 2018 ay the Callawayy District Hospital. Services will be 10:30 AM Monday, July 9 at the United Methodist Church in Callaway. Karen Lee Newman Rood Death Notice

Karen Lee Newman Rood, 76, of North Platte, died June 30, 2018, at Premier Estates Assisted Living surrounded by her family. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Richard Karr officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, at the Benkleman Cemetery.
