Barbara J. O’Brien Death Notice

Barbara J. O’Brien, age 87 of North Platte, passed away Thursday June 28, 2018 at North Platte Care Center.  Arrangements are pending at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home.

Leland Eugene Williams

Leland Eugene Williams, 67, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2018 in North Platte, NE. Leland was born October 6, 1950 in Broken Bow to Clarence and Frances “Vicky” (McClernon) Williams. He lived on a ranch near Melbourne before moving to Stapleton until age 8, and then to North Platte. Leland graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1968. He joined the Army and served from July 1970 through July 1973. He went on to serve in the National Guard through June 1980. Leland worked as a Paramedic and Fireman for the North Platte Fire Department. He then went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement. He loved riding his Harley on short trips with friends and also attending many Sturgis rallies. He was a member of the Platte River Sportsmen’s Club, a member of the Twin Rivers Chapter of North Platte, a member of the American Motorcycle Association (AMA), and a 10 year member of the Harley Owners Group (HOG). He also loved spending time with his family and enjoyed going to the range.

Leland is survived by daughter Laurie (Jesse) Polivka of Lincoln; brother Keith (Linda) Williams of North Platte; grandchildren Nicole Polivka of Mitchell, Jaret Polivka of Lincoln, and Trevor Polivka of Lincoln; niece Rebecca (Kale) Merklin of Gretna; Dillon Frosh of North Platte and Taylor Merklin of Gretna; and best friend Tom Ryschon. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Frances “Vicky” Williams.

Funeral services will be at 11:00a.m. Friday June 29, 2018 at the Adam Swanson Funeral Home with Chaplain Gary Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Fort McPherson with military honors. Visitation will be from noon until 8:00p.m. Thursday June 28, 2018 with Family Receiving Friends from 5:00 until 7:00p.m. at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home.

Hazel S. Earll

Hazel S. Earll, 74, of North Platte, passed away June 25, 2018 at the Sutherland Care Center.  She was born August 29, 1943 to Dewey and Minnie (Johnson) Earll at Gothenburg.  Hazel grew up in Gothenburg and North Platte.  She was employed in Ogallala for a while before returning to North Platte.  Hazel was a Jehovah Witness.  She is survived by her niece, Melody (Cesar) Lucero of North Platte; a cousin, Sarah Oberg of North Platte; great niece and nephews, Daniel Zogg, Andrew Lucero and Elizabeth Lucero; and a great great niece, Alice Lucero.  Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com. Sharon K. Parker Kinsinger

Sharon K. Parker Kinsinger, 78, of North Platte, passed away June 23, 2018 at North Platte Care Center. She was born June 11, 1940 to Elden and Eva Parker at North Platte.  She grew up in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School with the class of “58” as the valedictorian.  She attended college at McCook Community College. Sharon married Sam R. Kinsinger, Sr. on April 18, 1998.  Sharon loved life and dearly loved her family. She loved all animals, especially her cats and kittens. She wanted all animals to have good homes and she was very active in Pawsitve Partners.

Sharon had many dear friends and enjoyed being involved in the Buffalo Bill Kiwanas, Jones Girls Investment Club, her bunco group and her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, which she was a member of for many years.  She always had a smile for everyone and was joy to be with.

She was employed as a bookkeeper for the Dept. of Roads, at Clark Hard Printing and then at Economy Glass for many years. Before retiring she was the head bookkeeper for Pro-Printing Graphic, Inc. from 1990 until 2010.  Her dear friend Edy Patterson said she was the “Best Bookkeeper Ever”.

She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Sam; step children, Sandy (John) Rowland, Joyce (Lee) McConahay, Sam (Dawn) Kinsinger, Jr; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and many cousins.

Ricky Dale Douglas

Ricky Dale Douglas, 62, of Lincoln, formerly of North Platte, passed away June 3, 2018 at The Woods House in Lincoln, where he lived for 17 years.

He will be joining his family in that are in heaven, his father, Norman “Pete” Douglas; mother, Alice “Vi” Grim; brothers, Michael Douglas, Jon Paul Douglas and Gerry Alan Grim.

He leaves behind, his brother, Terry (Frankie) Douglas; sisters, Laura Douglas Smith, Becky (David Walsh) Haldorsen, Chris (Mark Fagan) Stoddard and Robin Rosenboom; sister-in-law, Verna Douglas; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Eric I Wright

Eric I Wright, 49, of Omaha, formerly of North Platte, passed away June 20, 2018 at home.  Eric was born in Omaha, March 24, 1969.  He graduated from North Platte High School with the class of “87”.  He attended UNL and received a bachelor’s degree in History.

He is preceded in death by his father, Edward I Wright; and grandparents, Cleve and Burnice Dickinson.

Eric is survived by his mother, Marilyn (Andy Knepp) Harris; brother, Kevin (Darcy) Wright of Washington; nephew, Brennan Wright; niece, Megan Wright; aunts and uncles, Wanda (Eddy) Rosencutter, Janet (Paul) Cox, and Iris (Mark) Lloyd; 10 cousins; and many friends.  He will be missed by everyone that knew him.

A memorial has been established in his memory.  Cremation was chosen.   Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2018 at the North Platte Cemetery.  Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in care of arrangements.

Ernest “Ernie” Eugene Nelsen

Ernest “Ernie” Eugene Nelsen, 69, of North Platte, departed this life on June 18, 2018 at home.
Ernie was born in North Platte on August 6, 1948 to Darrell and Anna (Batt) Nelsen. Attending grade school in North Platte, the family moved to Cheyenne where Ernie went to East High School. At 18 he joined the Navy and was a signalman between ships using lights and flags on the east coast and the Caribbean, mostly in Puerto Rico. After the Navy Ernie returned to his parents’ home in Omaha and began a career with railroads. Working for Union Pacific as a telegraphist and later as train dispatcher in Omaha and North Platte. In Omaha he met his first wife, Sheryl. Years later he went to work for Burlington Northern out of Alliance as a train dispatcher. Missing her family, they moved back to Sheryl’s family hog farm in Iowa. After their divorce, he moved to North Platte where his resided. He worked for Kwik Stop where he met and married Kathy Breeden. Ernie also worked for City Discount Liquor and after becoming disabled, as a greeter at Wal-Mart. Ernie and Kathy lived for 25 years next door to his sister, Jolene Styron. They enjoyed going out every weekend for a drive, fishing or craft shows. The 3 were inseparable until Jolene moved to Missouri and then it was daily phone calls to each other. Kathy and Ernie enjoyed being camp hosts at Buffalo Bill Ranch State Recreation Area.
Ernie is survived by daughters, Kim (Steve) Dressen of North Carolina and Cindy (Rick) Hustig of Omaha, NE; his sister, Jolene Styron; brother, Dennis (Jenay) Nelsen both of Mountain Grove, Missouri, two granddaughters, Brittany Hustig and McKayla (Darren) Demulling; an aunt, Irene Bending of Berthoud, CO; nephews, Andrew (Amanda) Nelsen of Lincoln, Chad Nelsen of North Platte; nieces, Annette Styron of Alabama, Anita Styron of Lincoln, Angie Phifer of Florida and Joanna (Josh) Shearer of North Platte.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Kathy in January of 2018.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested in Earnie’s name to the North Platte Animal Shelter. Garry Ray Dodge

Garry Ray Dodge, 76, of North Platte, NE passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018 at his home from complications of Pulmonary Fibrosis.  He was born February 19, 1942 at Callaway, NE to Ernest and Rose (Sladky) Dodge.  He grew up and attended school in Callaway, NE.  Garry married the love of his life, Karen Leibhart on January 21, 1961.  To this union three children were born, Debra, Susan, and Garry Jr.

Garry worked many years around Callaway.  He began his career on the Union Pacific Railroad in May of 1969 as an engineer and was also Road Foreman of Engineers for nine years.  Garry retired in 1995 with medical issues.  He still enjoyed telling railroad stories and missed all of his co-workers.

In his retirement he was able to enjoy family and especially his grandkids whom he loved dearly.  He loved telling them stories, he was quite the story teller and the grandkids were a good audience whether the stories were true or not.  For anyone that knew Garry or even crossed paths with him, he always had a corny joke to make you smile.

What a talented man he was.  Garry could fix anything, build anything, he was an excellent carpenter and was a very hard-working man.  He helped anyone that needed help and loved Nebraska Football games.  Garry was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.  His family was his life.  He loved his home at the lake.  You never saw Garry in the last few years that he didn’t have a book in his hand.  He loved puzzles, crossword, scratch tickets, and Texas Hold’em.  If anyone mentioned gambling, he was ready to go!  His other favorite things to do were pitching horseshoes, fishing with the grandkids, and metal detecting because he always knew he would find a treasure.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 plus years, Karen of North Platte; daughters, Debra Dodge and Susan Yager both of North Platte; son, Garry Dodge Jr. and Monica of North Platte; grandchildren, Jason Haines and Calley, Jeremy Haines and Riley, Logan (Mackenzie) Yager, Melissa Dodge, Christian Dodge, and Cory Dodge; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Faith, Ava, Daelynn, and Will; numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Larry; brothers, Ernie, Dean, and Wayne; sister-in-law, Gerry; father and mother-in-law, June and Ilene Leibhart; sister-in-law, Deanna Harriman; and nephews, Dennis and Duane Harriman.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with the Reverend Jeremy Rinke officiating.  Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday with the family receiving friends 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
