Douglas Jason White

Douglas Jason White died April 2, 2018 in Millcreek, Utah. Doug was born on October 2, 1975 in North Platte, Nebraska, where he was raised. He was the youngest child of Phil and Maxine White.

Doug was an ironworker who apprenticed at the Ironworkers Local 751 in Anchorage, Alaska. He loved putting up steel structures of buildings and bridges. Doug worked on construction projects in Alaska, Antarctica, Australia, the Rockies and Midwest. He was proud to have traveled to every continent on earth.

Doug enjoyed scuba diving, rock climbing, hunting, and fishing. He reveled in being the “cool” uncle to his nephews and niece. Doug’s fondest memories were with his high school and working buddies, and friends in AA. Anyone who met Doug instantly fell under the spell of his magnetic smile and generous sense of humor.

Doug is survived by his mother Maxine Chesnut White of North Platte, NE; brothers Phillip White (Susan Hurley), Birmingham, AL, Bradley “Jake” White (Rebel Roy Steiner), Los Angeles, CA; niece Madeleine White, Birmingham, AL; nephews P. Zachary White (Amber), Elkridge, UT; Blake White (Sarah) Cameron, NC, Kyle White, Salt Lake City, UT, and girlfriend Yami Mejia, Millcreek, UT.

He is preceded in death by his father Phil White and sister Jennifer White, and both set of grandparents.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm Saturday, April 7th at Russon Mortuary,295 N. Main Street, Bountiful, Utah. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Doug’s life.  Flowers can be sent to the mortuary. His ashes will be buried at Floral Lawns in North Platte, NE, at a later date. Derrol Walter Nitz

Derrol Walter Nitz, 67, of North Platte, Nebraska died April 3, 2018 at Bryan West Hospital, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Derrol was born to Eldon and Helen (Wahl) Nitz on January 5, 1951.  He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church rural Columbus, Nebraska.  He grew up on his family farm 8 miles north of Columbus until 1967 when they moved to town.  There he attended Columbus Senior High School, graduating in 1969.  After graduation he went to the University of Nebraska, Lincoln until joining the United States Army, spending most of his tour in Germany.  After being discharged he continued his education with the G.I. bill getting his accounting degree.  Later on he took tests to get his Certified Public Accountant certificate.  He was employed by McChesney, Martin, Sagehorn accounting firm.

Derrol loved watching sports, old time westerns, movies, and listening to music.  He loved all his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and never forgot any of their birthdays.  He also enjoyed getting together with his many special friends from North Platte at his home to watch Nebraska football, conversation, and food.

Derrol is survived by his sisters Donna (Leon) Bruhn and Donette (Ted) Petersen all of Lincoln; brothers, Delayne Nitz of Belle Fourche, SD, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews, Scott and Austin Bruhn, B.J. (Raechelle), Jasmine Jones and Max Bruhn, Mike (Shelly), Hannah and Kaitlyn Bruhn, Amanda May (Kyle Gress), Logan and Brennan Gress, Grayson and Sophia May, John (Marcia), Reid Petersen, Andrew (Chandra) Kieren, and Vayda Nitz.

Derrol was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Helen Nitz; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Bethel Evangelical Free Church in North Platte, NE with Pastor  George Cheek officiating.  Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.  Visitation will be noon – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 8 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

Jill A. Chambers

Jill A. Chambers, 82, formerly of North Platte, passed away March 28, 2018 in Colorado.  She was born January 3, 1936 to Denzel and Francis (Bush) Jenkins at Grand Island, NE.  She graduated from Grand Island Central Catholic and Kearney State Teacher’s College.

Jill’s legacy was her children and grandchildren.  She loved them all unconditionally with all her heart as our LORD loves each of us.  She covered over them in prayer daily.  She was a prayer warrior!  If you met her, even though you may not have known, she prayed for you.  If you got to know her as your friend, she prayed for you and you knew and felt her prayers.

She is survived by her sons Jeff (Kathy), Jim (Shanda), Todd, and Mark (Wendy); grandchildren, Matthew, Joel, Kyle, Travis, Shawn, Lindsey, Kristen, Jeremy, Courtney and Logan; great grandchildren, Ryden, Mikayla, Brayden, Tanner and Talon; her sister, Joan Galusha; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Denzel and Francis; sisters, Jackie and Jenny; grandchildren, Isabelle, Michael, Jordyn, Ashley Nicole, Micah Lee, and Mary Ann.

Dorothy Jean Simon

Dorothy Jean Simon, age 81 of North Platte, passed away Saturday March 31, 2018 at Great Plains Health.

Dorothy was born October 27, 1936 in Haig, NE to Jacob and Rozi (Steinhaur) Leider.  She grew up around Scottsbluff, NE and married Cecil L. Simon on April 17, 1955.  The couple lived in Scottsbluff before moving to North Platte in 1957 where her husband worked for the James E. Simon Construction Company.  Dorothy and Cecil raised three daughters, and her family was the center of her life.  She was a faithful member of the Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses since 1971.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Cecil L. Simon of North Platte; daughters Christine Simon, Vickie (Vance) Hardenbergh and Jennifer (Kyle) Smith all of North Platte; grandchildren Rachel (Jeremy) Webb of North Platte, John (Keontra) Griffiths of Dallas, TX, Robbyn (Sam) Raffaeli of Imperial, NE, Rebecca (Angelo) DeHerrera of North Platte, David (Brittoni) Hardenbergh of Maricopa, AZ, Vanessa (Jarod) Scheinost of North Platte, Grace Andrews of Maricopa, AZ, Kevin Hardenbergh of North Platte, Heather (Joel) Sinclair of Brady, Krystal Smith of North Platte, Lacey (Tanner) Seidel of Lincoln, NE, and Kayla (Taylor Seidel) Smith of North Platte; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; brothers John Leider of Melbeda, NE, Hank (Darlene) Leider of Kissimmee, FL and Jim (Carolyn) Leider of Titusville, FL; as well as numerous other extended family members and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Rozi Leider; siblings George, Henry, Louise, Anna, Jake, Emma and Amelia.

David Roger Deardorff (Papaw)

David Roger Deardorff (Papaw) passed away on March 31, 2018 at Linden Court in North Platte, Nebraska, following a recent illness.

David was born on August 25, 1946 in Maryville, Missouri to Everett Amos and Alberta (Jones) Blanche Deardorff.  David was raised in Fairfax, Missouri.  David later attended Northwest Missouri State College. He later attended the State of Missouri Highway Patrol Law Enforcement Academy.

David married Linda Williams and had two sons, Bret and Bart.  David was married two other times.

David was preceded in death by his mother, father and brother Charles Everett.  David is survived by his son daughter-in-law  Bret and Kristi Deardorff and grandsons Brody and Brennan of North Platte and son Bart Deardorff and grandson Brock of Mundelein, Il.  He also has a nephew, two nieces and their families.

David spent much of his career in law enforcement in Atchison and Nodaway Counties in Missouri.  He served on the Northwest Missouri Major Investigations Squad and as a crime scene photographer.  He also loved photography and was a photographer for many years.  In his later years, David held a variety of jobs.

David’s loves in life included shooting, hunting and fishing.  David was an avid shooter who won many awards at shooting contests.  Some of his favorite moments were spent at the “220” hunting with his friends.  David was always a cowboy at heart.  He also loved a good joke or prank.

In his later years, David’s greatest love was being Papaw to his grandsons Brock, Brody and Brennan.  He loved every minute of attending or hearing about their activities or spending time with them.

A private service will be held at a later date.   Arrangements made by Carpenter Memorial Chapel.

 

James Lee Keller

James Lee Keller, of North Platte, NE, died at home on March 28, 2018, at the age of 68.

James was born in Hyannis, NE, to Oren Loren and Maizie Elizabeth (Albright) Keller on November 30, 1949. He grew up and attended school in Hyannis then went to work at the Hyannis Hotel for a couple years. James later moved to North Platte to attend Mid-Plains Community College and took classes in the Electrical Department. He went on to do odd jobs as a handyman, worked at restaurants, did mechanic work with his brother, Frank, back in Hyannis, and did construction in Douglas, WY, for a few years.

James was a member of Episcopal Church of Our Savior. He liked watching movies and listening to music, especially country western, and even participated in musicals at the Community Playhouse and sang in the church choir. He loved his cats and other animals and was a very generous person who could be lots of fun to be around.

He is survived by the love of his life, his cat Mouse; brother, Frank (Cindy) Keller, of Hyannis; sister, Nellie Hinton, of Rushville, NE; as well as other family and his many friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Oren and Maizie Keller; and brother-in-law, Bud Hinton.

Willa Irene White

Willa Irene White, 77, of North Platte, NE, passed away at Great Plains Health on Saturday, March 31, 2018.

Willa was born May 23, 1940, to William Alfred and Irene Maxine (Wells) Tilford at North Platte where she grew up. Willa attended Platte Valley School then St. Patrick’s High School. After graduating she moved to California where she went to college in Moorpark and later worked as a cashier at Thrifty Drugstore in Canoga Park.

On June 15, 1957, Willa was united in marriage to Thaddeius Darrell “Pepper” White at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in North Platte. The couple had three children, Daniel, Darrell and Theresa, and helped care for many others.

Willa and Pepper lived in Simi Valley, CA, then moved to North Platte in ’78 where Willa worked for the Opportunity Center as a residential manager. By 1983 they relocated to Sterling, CO, and Willa went to work for Eastern Colorado Services for the Developmentally Disabled. They returned to North Platte in 1993 and continued caring for people in their own home for the next three years.

Willa was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the V.F.W. Post #1504 Auxiliary. Before she got sick, Willa enjoyed baking, going out to eat, playing Keno, taking trips to Las Vegas, and going to church. Her greatest pastime was football and her best friends were her sisters. Willa looked forward to “Sister Day” when they all got together for coffee and went out to lunch. She had a strong faith in God and loved her family and dogs, Lilly and Frankie. Willa was a loving wife and mother who cared for her family and many others. She is loved and will be greatly missed.

She leaves behind her children, Theresa (Todd) Freeburg, of North Platte, Daniel (Tracy) White, of Wildomar, CA, and Darrell White, of Logan, IA; eight grandchildren, Sarah (Danny) Garcia, Rachel (Tony) Delansky, Jamie (Rey) Perez, Emily Werts (Maui Brogdon), Logan White, Riley White, Patrick White and Thomas White; 12 great-grandchildren, Kylee, Layla, Thaddeius, Madalynn, Jordan, Austin, Kailynn, Elizah, Cayden, Hannah, Erin and Ethan; brothers, Jim Tilford, of North Platte and Bill (Stephanie) Tilford, of Sutherland; sisters, Jean (Rodney) Fisher, of North Platte and Carol (Jim) Frame, of Hershey; as well as many nieces, nephews and other family.

Willa was preceded in death by her husband, Pepper; parents, William and Irene Tilford; brother, John Tilford; sister, Joann Simants; brother-in-law, Wesley Simants; and great-grandson, Roman Kale White.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Christian Wake Service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2018, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are to the Lincoln Connection. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Alfred Trembly

Robert Alfred Trembly, age 93 of Hershey, passed away Monday April 2, 2018 at Great Plains Health.

Bob was born January 22, 1925 in North Platte to Theodore “Ted” and Ruth (Snyder) Trembly.  He graduated from North Platte High School and then entered the US Army, serving from 1944 to 1946 during WWII in the Philippines.  After his discharge he returned home where he married Zola Bayne.  He hired on to the Union Pacific Railroad as a Fireman on the steam engines, and later was promoted to Engineer, retiring in 1990.  He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.  He enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing and camping.  Family was first priority with him; he loved his son and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all.

Bob is survived by his son Robert K. (Kathy) Trembly of Hershey; grandchildren Caleb (Amy) Trembly and Megan (Frank Macias) Trembly all of North Platte; great grandchildren Kaylee, Karlee, Rylee, and Connor; sister Theola Merrill of Paxton; as well as numerous other family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Ruth Trembly; and wife Zola.

Memorials are suggested in his name and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.  Cremation was chosen and graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday April 4, 2018 at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery with Pastor Dean Bailey officiating.  A luncheon will follow at the Maxwell Community Hall.  Those wishing to do so may sign the register book from noon until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday April 3, 2018 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
