Vivian M. Sorenson

Vivian M. Sorenson, 64, of North Platte, passed away Feb. 21, 2018, when her son called her home while at Hospice of the Valley Tempe, Arizona.

She was born on April 21, 1953, to Richard J. Webb Jr. and Mary Helen (Urban) Webb.

She was employed as a florist, at one point owning her own flower shop. Arranging flowers brought her great joy.

Later in life, she went to college to pursue nursing and was employed as a nurse from 2002 until June 2017, when she was diagnosed with cancer.

Vivian was preceded in death by her dad and her son, Brian Sorenson.

She is survived by her mother, Mary Webb of South Hutchinson, Kansas; daughter, Rebecca Sorenson of North Platte; eight sisters; three brothers; numerous nieces and nephews; and her dog, Teddy.

Memorials are suggested to Mid Nebraska Community Foundation for the Brian Sorenson Memorial Scholarship.

Cremation was chosen. Services will be at a later date in South Hutchinson.

Mary C. (Blankenship) Horn Allberry

Mary C. (Blankenship) Horn Allberry, 82, of La Vista, formerly of North Platte, passed away on Feb. 24, 2018, at Bergen Mercy Hospital, Omaha.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Bob Allberry and Jerry Horn; parents, John and Ruth Blankenship; sisters, Marge Horacek and Betty Heinzman; and brother John Blankenship.

Mary is survived by her children, Kathy (Brett) Gibson, Sherry Adams, Tom (Jolene) Allberry, Lori Allberry, Bob Allberry, Patricia (Steve) Lynch and John (Lori) Allberry; eight grandsons; 11 granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Rita Reynolds and Patricia (Russ) Abernathy; brother, Robert Blankenship; brother-in-law, Gene Heinzman; and sister-in-law, Patricia Blankenship.

Memorials are suggested to Masses or American Legion Baseball of Chadron, 5108 F St., Omaha, NE 68117.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 2, at St. Bernadette Church, 7600 S. 42nd St., Bellevue. Burial will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 5, at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, at Korisko Larkin Staskiewicz, 5108 F St., Omaha. Benny D. Miles

Benny D. Miles, 80, of North Platte, passed away Feb. 28, 2018.

He was born on July 22, 1937, in Lynch to Hershel and Wilma (Bivens) Miles. Benny attended grade school in Dorsey and later graduated from Plainview High School.

On Aug. 4, 1957, he was united in marriage to Thelma L. Schmer in Brush, Colorado. He was a mechanic at the Ford Garage in Brush and then worked as mechanic and bus driver manager in Wiggins, Colorado.

In 1969, he moved to the family farm in Dorsey, where he was a mechanic for local farmers. In 1977, he then moved to North Platte, where he was a house parent at the North Platte Opportunity Center for seven years.

In 1980, he and his son, Allen, bought a bicycle shop, which he helped operate until 1996. He then went to work roofing and building a number of homes. In 1981, he rode his bike to Spencer, Wisconsin. In 1982, he and two others rode to Austin, Texas, and in 1983, he did a 500-mile ride from Waco, Texas, through the hill country.

Even after retirement, he continued filling in at Alive Outside, working on rentals and doing maintenance at a daycare.

Benny was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Buddy Miles; a sister, Janis Jenkinson; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma; sons, Randy (fiancée Melody) Miles and Allen (Julie) Miles, all of North Platte; grandsons, Benjamin Miles, Chase (Dani) Miles and Jayden Miles; and two great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Britton.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Deardoff officiating. Casual dress is requested. Violet Leona Towne

Violet Leona Towne, 84, beloved wife of the late Lyle Towne, mother and friend, passed Feb. 18, 2018, in Mountain Home, Idaho.

Violet enjoyed traveling, talking on the phone, Yahtzee and spending time with family and friends.

Violet spent her last few years in Idaho, where she enjoyed the Mountain Home Senior Center and attending the Christian and Baptist Church in Mountain Home. During this time, she looked forward to her summer visits to North Platte, where she put down the books that were always in her hand and hosted a social in the park.

Violet will be lovingly remembered and missed by her daughters, Debra (Paul) Shrum of Mountain Home and Judi (James) Murray of South Carolina; son, Art Towne of Nebraska; sister, Joyce Inman of Missouri; brother, John (Diane) Nichols of Missouri; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at a later date in Missouri. Cremation was chosen. Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, Mountain Home, Idaho, is in charge of arrangements.

Beulia E. Sonneman

Beulia E. Sonneman, age 96, of North Platte, passed away March 4, 2018 at Centennial Park Retirement Village. She was born August 4, 1921 at Wellfleet, NE to Neal and Mildred (Shirley) Schrecongost. Beulia attended school at the Echo School near Wellfleet. She was united in marriage to Charlie Sonneman on May 13, 1940 at North Platte. They farmed south of North Platte for many years and she also worked at the Sale Barn Cafe for 10 years. Beulia loved to work outdoors and enjoyed being a farmer’s wife. She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran church and past member of the Eagle’s Auxiliary.

Survivors include her son, Albert (Arta) Sonneman, daughter, Linda (Dan) Evans, daughter-in-law, Neva Sonneman, grandchildren, Alee Stout, Alan (Becky) Sonneman, Alex (Jodi) Sonneman, Joe (Brooke) Rivera, Brad (Tracie) Evans, Stephanie (Clint) Strong, and Kent (Sara) Sonneman, 14 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Gilbert Sonneman, brothers, Herbert, Billy, and Georgie Schrecongost, sisters, Clara Favinger and Marie Kelsey, and an infant great-grandson, James Stout. Services will be 1:30 pm Friday, March 9, 2018 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Steve Berke officiating. Burial will be at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Memorials are suggested to Great Plains Hospice or to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Juanita Deane Herrada

Juanita Deane Herrada, of Hershey, passed away at the age of 88 on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at Linden Court.

Juanita was born October 20, 1929, to Lauren William and Deane Anderson Grove at Judith Gap, Montana. She grew up in Judith Gap and graduated from high school in 1947. Juanita worked for J.C. Penny’s in Lewistown, Montana for a few years before getting married.

On February 26, 1950, she married Odas Benson at Texarkana, Arkansas, and they later had a daughter, Verna. The couple lived in Greensbayou, Texas for a while then moved to Venezuela for three years. When they returned to the United States they moved to Wellington, Texas, and bought combines to do custom combining for farms stretching from Texas to Canada. By 1970 they settled in Hershey where Juanita drove the school bus and got to know many of the kids, which she really enjoyed, and worked at Butch’s from 1975 until retiring in 2013.

Juanita was united in marriage to Pedro “Pete” Herrada on July 3, 1993, at Maria Lutheran Church in Hershey. They enjoyed being together for over 20 years and liked spending time with Pete’s family. When the smoke was rising around her house, it meant the barbecue was going and fun was rolling in and the family was pitching quarters.

Juanita was a member of Maria Lutheran Church, V.F.W. Post #1504 Auxiliary, Paul R. Martin Post #279 American Legion Auxiliary and a life member of D.A.V. Orlo E. Eglehoff Auxiliary. Juanita loved to do crossword puzzles and was a beautiful seamstress. She sewed everything from wedding dresses (which were not easy) to hemming coats, pants, shirts and dresses and she especially loved quilting, cross-stitching and needle point.

She is survived by her step family she called her own, James (Shannon) Herrada and Stella (Brent) Larreau, of Hershey, Pete Herrada, Jr. (Allan Miliam), of San Antonio, Texas, and Donna Herrada Fuentes, of North Platte; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and other family.

Juanita was preceded in death by her husbands, Odas Benson and Pete Herrada; daughter, Verna Benson; sisters, Lucille Buschman and Lorene Sears; brother, Duane Grove; her parents, Lauren and Deane Grove; and stepchildren, Rolando Herrada, Simon Herrada and Carmen Summers.

Cremation was chosen. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Pastor Erin Dunlavy officiating. Inurnment will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements. Dale Allen Peterson and Gary Dean Peterson

Dale Allen Peterson, 68, and Gary Dean Peterson, 72, loving brothers, originally of North Platte, passed within a month of each other. Dale, of Lincoln, passed away Jan. 24, 2018. Gary, of Omaha, passed peacefully Feb. 24, 2018, surrounded by family.

They are survived by Gary’s loving wife, Fyrn, Gary’s loving children, James and Stephanie, and Gary’s loving grandchildren, Tristan and Evalynn.

A military service will be in their honor at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 9, at the Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Road, Omaha. A celebration of their lives will be shortly thereafter at Divine Shepherd Lutheran Church, 15005 Q Street, Omaha. All are welcome.

Burnice A. (Dickinson) Zierlein

Burnice A. (Dickinson) Zierlein, age 95 of North Platte passed away February 28, 2018 at Linden Court. Burnice was born October 30, 1922 to Charles and Agnes (Stethem) Pettis at Anselmo, Ne where she attended school. She was united in marriage to Cleve Dickinson on July 6, 1938 in Broken Bow, NE. They worked on various ranches through their married life. Four daughters were born to this union, Wanda, Marilyn, Janet and Iris. Burnice loved to have family dinners. She made the world’s best pies and made many crafts and went to all the county fairs. Cleve passed away on April 4, 1977 after 39 years of marriage. She loved to dance the waltz and two-step. Her father had a band so every Saturday night, they went to a dance, many at Mary’s Hall in Anselmo and the Dunning Hall. Burnice could sell anything. She worked for Allen Self Service, Shakely, and Alovera distributors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Cleve, granddaughter, Christy, son-in-law, John Harris, and sisters, Wilma Jean, Darline, and Eula Faye.

Survivors include her daughters, Wanda (Eddy) Rosencutter, Marilyn (Andy Knepp) Harris, Janet (Paul) Cox, and Iris (Mark) Lloyd, 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of wonderful friends.
