Kathy Lee Bowers

Kathy Lee Bowers, 56, of North Platte, passed away February 8, 2018 at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln.  She was born July 12, 1961 to Warren and LaDonna (Jones) Bowers at Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Kathy was a joy to everyone she met; she didn’t know a stranger. She enjoyed adventure and lived life to the fullest. She loved being with family and friends whether it was watching the Huskers or sharing in a meal. She worked for many years in the Shelter’s Workshop at North Platte Opportunity Center. Kathy loved listening to music, especially church and country. Most days you could find Kathy watching movies and drinking hot coffee. Kathy will be missed by all who knew and loved her!

She is survived by her siblings, Karen (Dennis) Payton, Neil (Donita) Bowers and Lynetta White; nieces and nephews, Carrie (Steve) Rhodes, Crystal (Bryan) Venable, Richard (Lydia) Payton, Christopher (Lynn) Bowers, Bradly (Sharon) Bowers, Andrew (Fallon) Bowers, Timothy White and Dakota Meyer; numerous great nieces and nephews; and a great great nephew.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial has been established in her memory. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.  Visitation with family receiving friends will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which is in care of arrangements.

Gary L. Murphy

Gary L. Murphy, age 82 of North Platte, passed away February 5, 2018 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. He was born June 3, 1935 in Oberlin, KS to Harry and Enid (Foley) Murphy. He attended grade schools in Hot Springs, Sioux Falls, SD and North Platte. Then graduated from North Platte High School in 1953. Gary was united in marriage to Donna George December 11, 1953. After high school he attended Barnes Business School in Denver. Gary, along with his parents, established Murphy’s Modern Music and operated the business for many years until his retirement. Following that, they spent the winters enjoying the Florida weather. He instilled his children and grandchildren about the appreciation of the outdoors where he was an avid hunter and fisherman. Gary was a 50 year member of the First Lutheran Church, Platte Valley Lodge #32 AF and AM, Nebraska York Rites Chapter #15, and Tehama Temple of the Shrine of Hastings.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Donna, of North Platte, children, Deb Beerman of Kearney, Kerri Murphy of Denver, and Mark (Shawn) Murphy of Ashland, NE, grandchildren, Jenni (Matt) Nielsen, Dustin (Laura) Beerman, Connor (Aubrey) Rhoden, Kelsea(Bryan) Vernon, Rylee and Chloe Murphy, great-grandchildren, Drew and Hayes Nielsen, Colten and Hannah Beerman, step great-grandchildren, Dylan and Casey Schneider, sister, Joan Horne, and nephew, Troye Horne.

He was preceded in death by his parents, niece, Tanje (Horne) Bellhouse, and two cousins Lowell and Lee Foley. Services will be 10:30 am Monday, February 12, 2018 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Private family interment will be at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in his memory. Gary’s family will be receiving friends at the visitation from 1 to 3 pm Sunday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel which is charge of arrangements. Mildred (Mac) Jean Welsh

Mildred (Mac) Jean Welsh, age 89, of North Platte, born April 18, 1928, departed this earth on February 3rd, 2018 at Pioneer Memorial in Mullen with God’s grace and peace.

Mac was preceded in death by her parents, 8 siblings and her son, Stephen. Mac is survived by her best friend and husband, George, Sr. of Mullen; her children, George (Sandy) Jr., of Cozad, Betty (Chuck) Wretling of Littleton, CO, Peggy (Brad) Porath of Mullen, and Patricia (Alan) Kackmeister of Austin, TX; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren,  sisters-in-law, Betty Halsey and Alice Bailey; cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Martha Ann Burbach

Martha Ann Burbach, age 93 of North Platte, passed away Tuesday February 6, 2018 at Centennial Park Nursing Home with her family by her side.

Martha was born March 14, 1924 in Crofton, NE to Bernard and Mary (Ausdemore) Langferman.  She grew up in Crofton and graduated from Crofton High School in 1940.  She attended Wayne State Teacher’s College and received her teaching certificate.  She taught school in Cedar County for 4 years.  She married Reinhold “Reiny” H. Burbach on July 9, 1945 in Constance, NE.  They lived in Hartington, NE until they moved to North Platte in 1961.  She belonged to the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Daughter of Charities, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, St. Ann’s Rosary group, and she volunteered at McDaid School for 20 plus years.  She was a past member of the Lake Maloney golf club and belonged to many bridge clubs.  In her free time she enjoyed crocheting, and made afghans for her children and grandchildren.  Before retiring, both she and Reiny traveled to over 15 countries, most all the United States, and occasionally stopped at a casino or two!  She was a person who could become friends with anyone and always kept people entertained with stories and jokes.  Martha had a great sense of humor.  She was a role model for many and was loved and admired by all, especially her family.

Martha is survived by her husband Reiny of North Platte; daughters Barbara Waldschmidt of Omaha, Rosemary (Ron) Jones of North Platte, Karlene (Dave) Hoedel of Walled Lake, MI; sons Bill (Suzanne)  of Belmont, NH, Randy (Denise) of North Platte, Kevin (Denise) of North Platte; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; as well as other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Mary Langferman; sisters Helen Potts and Johanna Langferman; brothers Henry, George, Wendel, Joe, Frank, Albert, Erwin and Ray Langferman; and son-in-law James Waldschmidt.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Building Fund or the North Platte Catholic Schools Endowment Trust.  Online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.  Christian Wake Services will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday February 11, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday February 12, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton with the Reverend Mark Seiker as celebrant and Reverend Tom Brouillette and Gary Brethour as concelebrants.  Burial will follow at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery.  The family will be receiving friends at the local homes of Martha’s children.  Visitation will be from noon until 6:00 p.m. Saturday and from noon until 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

 

Lyle Glen Broeder Death Notice

Lyle Glen Broeder, 84, of Hershey, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Great Plains Health.  Per his request, cremation was chosen and there will be no service. Condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.

Beverly Ann Hoaglund

Beverly Ann Hoaglund, 87, formerly of Brady passed away February 5, 2018 at Linden Court.  Beverly was born on April 6, 1930 in Gothenburg, NE to Edward and Thelma (Rose) Coon.  She attended and graduated from Brady Public Schools.  She attended the University of Nebraska Omaha where she received her RN degree.  On April 25, 1954 Beverly married her high school sweetheart, Richard “Eugene” Hoaglund.

Beverly was a member of the Brady United Methodist Church, serving as church secretary, UMW board, and the election board.  She helped with the census, loved to craft, sew, crochet, garden, and can, and enjoyed attending sporting events of her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her son Richard (Linda) Hoaglund of Brady; grandkids, Corey, Casey (Becky) Hoaglund, Jessica (Tim) Johnson, Jeanie (Alex) Roeder, Jennifer (fiancé, Jack Brethauer) Hoaglund; great-grandkids, Haylie, Chloe, Jacob, Ethan, Chase, Bailey, Joseph, Aliyah, Jake, Isaac, and Kirsten; son, Jeff (Sally Jo) Hoaglund of North Platte; grandkids, Kim (Brian) Flanders, Jason (Nancy) Ross, Kerri (Clint) Walther, Lindsay (Aaron) Niles; great-grandkids, Karli, Jaeli, Emma, Jordan (Evan), Brodey, Akilah (fiancé, Justin), Kaden, Gavin, and Riley; son, Pat (Julie) Hoaglund of Brady; grandkids, Kelli (Matt) Wiiest, and Tiffany Hoaglund; and great-grandchild, Blakely.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Eugene Hoaglund; brother, James Coon; and a nephew, Mike Coon.

Eldie David Cline

Eldie David Cline, age 48 of North Platte, passed away Tuesday January 30, 2018.

Eldie was born December 11, 1969 in Kimball, NE to Eldie and Sharon (McKenzie) Cline.  He grew up in the Minatare area before moving to Alliance where he graduated from high school in 1988.  Following graduation he worked construction with his brother and uncle in California for a year before returning to Alliance where he went to work on the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1989.  He met his wife, Carolyn Sue Hansen through mutual friends and the couple was married at the Alliance First Presbyterian Church on July 1, 1995.  The couple moved to Laramie, WY in 2000 where Eldie attended WyoTech, earning a degree in auto body restoration and repair.  Upon his graduation, he taught welding at WyoTech for one year.  In 2004 he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad in Oak Creek, CO.  In 2005 he was transferred to Denver, CO where they remained until the Denver shop was closed in 2016 and they relocated to North Platte.  He was a “gear head” who loved cars, Chevys in particular.  He also had a knack for buying run down houses and fixing them up.  Eldie did all parts of the remodeling from installing ceramic tile to plumbing, he could fix anything, and wasn’t afraid to try anything.  He liked to draw and read, was a WWII buff and was great at telling jokes.   He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Eldie is survived by his wife, Carolyn; children, Henry and Ilsa; brother, Les (Pissamai) Cline of San Jose, CA; sisters, Sheralyn (Mike) Needham of Las Vegas, NV and Lenora (Doug) Waltman of Casper, WY; mother-in-law, Susan (Gene) Lore of Alliance, NE; father-in-law, John (Connie) Hansen of Alliance, NE; uncle, Chris Cline of San Ramon, CA; aunt, Hattie Grubs of Piedmont, SD; uncle, David (Sheri) Cline of Bill, Wy; as well as other extended family members, friends, and his fellow employees on the 2nd Shift.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldie and Sharon Cline; and grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in his name for his children’s future education.  Online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.  Cremation was chosen and a memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday February 10, 2018 at Church of our Savior Episcopal Church with Reverend Jeffrey Nelson officiating.  Those wishing to do so may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Friday February 9, 2018 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
