Donald W. “Don” Rose, 85, of Red Bluff, California, formerly of North Platte, died Jan. 9, 2018, at Shasta Regional Medical Center, Redding, California. Services will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21, at Vesper Masonic Lodge, Red Bluff. Private burial will be at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery, Igo, California.

Richard A. “Dick” Aden
Richard A. “Dick” Aden, age 64, of North Platte, died January 12, 2018 at Great Plains Health. He was born on September 12, 1953 in Gothenburg, NE to Emil and Judith (Bratten) Aden. Dick graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1971. He then went on to Kearney State College and Hastings College where he graduated in 1973, starting a career as a carpenter with Orville Stull near Gothenburg.
Dick then moved to North Platte where he worked with his brother Ron in the carpentry business. On May 16, 1980, Dick married Michele “Micky” Wilson at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in North Platte. In 1989, Dick began his own business, Dick Aden’s Remodel, which he has continued up until recently. He was an exceptional carpenter that settled for nothing less than perfection.
Dick was very kind and welcoming to all he met, willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
He was a member of St Patrick’s Catholic Church, and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Michele “Micky” Aden of North Platte; 2 children, Nate (Jenny) Aden, and Sarah (Jacob) Brown, all of Omaha; 9 grandchildren, Abbi, Gage, Kaitlyn, Kiley, Kassidy, Kenny, Aden, Jude, and Asher; 4 siblings, LaVonne (Arlo) Banzhaf of Cambridge, Lynette Gunnerson of McCook, Ron (Pauline) Aden of North Platte, and Dean (Gaylene) Aden of Kearney; and numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Larry Gunnerson; sister-in-law, Sharon Aden; niece, Tracey Gallagher; and a nephew, Patrick Aden.

Kathryn J. Nelsen
Kathryn J. Nelsen, 66, of North Platte, passed away Friday, January 12, 2018 at Great Plains Health. She was born February 16, 1951 to James C. and Evelyn J. (Reiter) Breeden at Lexington, NE. Kathryn graduated from Cozad High School. Later she moved to North Platte, where she worked for Municipal Light and Water as a payroll clerk for over 44 years, retiring in 2014. On Feb. 26, 1988, she was united in marriage to Ernest E. Nelson in North Platte. They enjoyed fishing and camping together.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest of North Platte; two step-daughters; and two step granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William “Bill” Breeden.

Marlys Lorene Gosnell
Marlys Lorene Gosnell, age 68, of Maxwell, NE passed away on January 14, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Minneapolis, MN on March 1, 1949 to Rueben and Lorraine (Leuck) Miller. She graduated from Mora High School and continued on to receive her Bachelor’s in Children’s Ministry and Missions from North Central Bible College.
Marlys was married to Ivan W. Gosnell on August 12, 1972, they were married 45 years. Marlys volunteered her time as a Sunday school teacher, and worship leader. She devoted her life to serving Christ, in her work, but especially for her church and family (most of all while loving and teaching her 11 grandchildren). She enjoyed gardening and baking, which her grandchildren adored doing with her. Marlys was also actively involved in her women’s bible study.
Survivors include her husband, Ivan Gosnell of Maxwell; children Jonie (Jason), Shane (Alicia) and Levi (Amy); grandchildren, Jordyn, Ellie, Illa, Jaevynn, Allison, Jaxon, Romy, Conrad, Maverick, Wyatt, and Nash; brothers, Dale, Daryl, David, and Randy; sisters, Sandy, Joy, and Linda; and many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Leslie and Grace Gosnell; granddaughters, Jael and Jalease; sisters, Sharon, Doris, Louise, and Ina; and brothers, Harvey, and Billy.

Herbert Ward Burch, Sr.
Herbert Ward Burch, Sr., age 93 passed away Wednesday December 27, 2017 at the Cozad Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Herbert was born February 2, 1924. The first of eight children, he was born to Charles and Cecile M. (Owen) Burch. He was born south of North Platte in Wells Canyon. He attended school at Sunny Slope, south of North Platte. He went to school until the 8th grade. After he got out of school, he did some farming. He taught himself to be a mechanic. He joined the Army from 1942 until 1946. While he was in the service he was stationed in California, except for 7 months, when he was in Iwo Jima, Japan. When he came home from the army he did some mechanic work. In the early 50’s he went to work for Fairmont Foods. In the 60’s he worked for Cecil Axthelm at the Standard Station on Rodeo Road. In 1969 he moved to Ogallala to work at McCreath Standard. Later on he worked for Warner Stickler at Spruce Street Standard. He worked on his own for a while, later on moving to North Platte to be with his mother. In the late 90’s he moved to Hayes Center to help Lola Lu on her farm. He took care of cattle until April 2009 when he went to the nursing home in Cozad. In May 2011, he moved to the Senior Living Choices in Curtis, NE. He went back to Cozad in 2013.
In the early 40’s he was married to Marge Godeker. To this marriage a son Herbert Jr. and daughter Ronda were born. Later on they were divorced. In 1971 he was married to Delma Waits. They were married for 23 years and later divorced. They stayed friends all these years. In 1995 he married Sonja Yost. A short time later they were divorced. He met Linda McIntosh and they lived together until he moved to Hayes Center.
Herbert is survived by his sisters, Effie King of Greeley, CO, Shirley Schaeffer of Loveland, CO, Alice (Doyle) Carroll of Branson, MO; son Herbert Jr. (Markie) of Belmopan, Belize; daughter Ronda (Edwin) Gale of Billings, MT; step daughter Rosemary (James) Conway of Papillion, NE; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Viola Burch of SD, Frances Burch of Ravenna, NE; as well as other extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; both sets of grandparents; brothers Ervin, Glenn, Lowell, Dale; 5 uncles; 5 aunts; brothers-in-law Rueben Schneider, Bob Schaeffer, Chuck Lamberson, Emile Effenbeck, Don King, Don Kraning, and Bill Schneider.

Roger P. Frederick
Roger P. Frederick, 59, of North Platte passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Great Plains Health with his loved ones by his side.
Roger was born on July 11, 1958 in Wellsville, NY to William and Clara (Skiver) Frederick. After William passed away, Roger was raised by his mom and step-dad Francis Buck. Roger graduated from Bolivar, NY High School in 1976. Shortly after graduating he moved to North Platte to work on building the Sutherland Power Plant.
Roger met and married Brenda Morrill and the couple had four children. He joined the United States Army and served in Alaska and Hawaii. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Columbus, GA and was divorced. He reconnected with Rhonda Traver after 36 years apart. Roger moved back to North Platte where he happily lived his last few years. He was employed at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center.
Roger was an avid fan of NASCAR, Georgia football, and his beloved Buffalo Bills. He was a great bowler and was a member of many leagues over the years.
He leaves behind to mourn his passing his first and last love Rhonda Traver and her family, 4 children, William, Jonathon, Steven, and Christina and their families all of Georgia and Alabama; mother, Clara of New York; several grandchildren including Robyn Frederick who was very special to him; brother, Richard Post of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Cindy Moore and family of Richberg, NY; special friends, Mike and Wendy Waller of Georgia; and many other friends and family who knew and loved him.
Preceding him in death were his father; step-dad; sister, Rita Stives; and a brother, Robert “Skip” Post.

Geanive “Jenny” Hansen
Geanive “Jenny” Hansen, 86, of North Platte passed away January 8, 2018 at Great Plains Health. She was born June 16, 1931 in Moorefield, NE to Anton and Annetta (Speck) Nelsen.
Jenny attended North Platte public schools, graduating from North Platte High School. On August 15, 1948 she married Edwin J. Hansen Sr. at the First Lutheran church in North Platte. The couple lived in North Platte where Jenny raised their five children. Later she worked and managed Schwesers Yard Stick, J.M. McDonalds, So Fro in the Mall, and the House of Fabric. Jenny was a collector of dolls and had a room dedicated for them.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, was a 4-H leader, PTA Life Member, was a judge in sewing contests and was a caretaker for all those around her. She will be remembered as an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Edwin of North Platte; children, Leita (Larry) Hatch, Connie (Rick) Springer, Loreen “Shub” Covington, Sherry Janak, and Eddie (Sylvia) Hansen all of North Platte; sister, Keta (Bill) Carlson of Axtell; grandchildren, Jebb (Laura) Hatch, Rocky (Jessica) Hatch, Lindsey (Ryan) Bachman, Emily (Anthony) McCreery, Allison (Winston) Ryan, Benj Covington, Molly Janak, Jake Janak, Brandon Hansen, Brady (Maria) Hansen, and Kaitlyn Hansen; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous other family members; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Loretta (Bob) Ogier; nephews, Jimmy and Lennes; in-laws, M.E. and Hazel Hansen; and a brother-in-law Chuck Tilford.

Shirley E. Dean
Shirley E. Dean, 91, of North Platte, passed away January 7, 2018 at the Cozad Care and Rehabilitation Center. Shirley was born June 27, 1926 in North Platte to Harry and Ethel (Liljegren) Weakly.
Shirley grew up in North Platte, graduating from North Platte High School in 1943. She attended the School of Commerce in North Platte. On December 12, 1944 she married Glenn L. Dean in Fresno, CA where Glenn was stationed in the Army Air Corps. The couple settled in North Platte where Shirley worked at O’Conner’s, Wilson Construction, Schewers, and the Pawnee Hotel as a bookkeeper. Shirley crafted and sold candles in her store Nebraska Prairie Lites in the 1970’s, was very active in the community, starting a youth activities program. She was also active in the Historical Society, the Jeffers Museum, Fort McPherson Days parade and pageant, the First Christian Church Youth Ministries, she began a jail ministry in North Platte and volunteered in jails and prisons in Colorado, volunteered at the Women’s Resource Center and Women’s Aglow, she played piano at the nursing homes, and helped at the grade schools by helping children with their reading.
Survivors include children, William Dean, Jack (Diann) Dean all of Fort Collins, CO., and Patricia (Frank) Evans of Smithton, Ill.; sister, Bonnie Hueftle of Eustis, NE; grandchildren, Jeremiah (Karin) Dean, Joshua (Jenny) Dean, Aaron (Stephanie) Dean, Andrew (Betsy) Dean, Samuel (Sharon) Dean, James Evans, Stephen (Michelle) Evans, and John (Kimberly Evans; great-grandchildren, Isacc, Sarah, Elizabeth, Jacob, Caleb, Emily, Thomas, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Tristen, Jaxon, Ronan, and Bri; and great-great-grandchildren, Layla Rose, and Marley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn; sons, Stephen and Jerry; brothers, Ward and Edward; and a sister, Donna.
