Patricia Anne “Pat” Ward

Patricia Anne “Pat” Ward, 79, of North Platte, formerly of Grand Island, passed away Jan. 2, 2018, in North Platte.

Pat was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico, on Aug. 16, 1938, to Howard and Betty Barnd Tipton. They moved several times and finally settled in Grand Island when Pat was in eighth grade. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1956, the last class before Central Catholic opened.

Following high school, Pat attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing and Duchesne College in Omaha.

In 1958, she married Jack Sargent. She and Jack had three children, Tim, Tom and Steve. Jack was killed in a parachute accident in 1962.

In 1963, Pat met and started dating C.P. “Bing” Ward, who had served on the Grand Island Police Department with Jack Sargent. Pat and Bing were united in marriage on Sept. 5, 1963.

On Nov. 5, 1964, Pat and Bing and had their first daughter, Stephanie. It was then that Bing adopted the three boys. Later in June 1967, Pat and Bing had twins, a girl and a boy, Kelly and Scott. Pat and Bing continued to reside in Grand Island, where they raised all six of their children.

Pat worked for Skagway Super Market from 1972 until her retirement in 2000. She was the supervisor of all checkers and carryouts at both the north store and south store until her retirement. Through her tenure at Skagway, she touched and impacted the lives of all those around her, including hundreds of students and young adults, as well as the community.

She and her husband Bing lived in Grand Island for more than 50 years before moving to North Platte in 2012.

Pat was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Simply put, her life was her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Jack; and one younger brother, Jimmy.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, C.P. Bing Ward; their six children, Tim (Janelle) Ward of Gunter, Texas, and their four children, Hannah, Halle, Keely and Griffin; Tom (Joan) Ward of Ankeny, Iowa, and their four children Bryon, Nicolette, Collin and Nicholas; Steve (Tami) Ward of Hallandale Beach, Florida, and their three children, Jenna, Carly and Jack; Stephanie (Jeff) McFadden of Dallas, Texas, and their twin daughters, Claire and Carsen; Kelly (Rolly) Kramer of Hershey and their daughter, Emma; Scott (Julie) Ward of Tampa, Florida, and their two daughters, Brittin and Adalyn. Additional members of the family include six great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers, Jayne Ball of Omaha, Geraldine Empey of Paradise Valley, Arizona, Barb Chamberlain of North Platte, Mike and Terry Tipton of Grand Island. She additionally had wonderful brothers- and sisters-in-law, as well as countless nieces and nephews, each whom she loved and adored.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8, at All Faiths Funeral Home, Grand Island. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 7, at All Faiths Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Ethan James Bagnell Howitt

Ethan James Bagnell Howitt was born asleep on Dec. 29, 2017, to his loving parents, Jake and Skyler Howitt.

Little “E.J.,” you will forever live with Jesus and in the loving hearts of your parents, grandparents and family.

Robert Kenneth Barnes

Robert Kenneth Barnes, 74, of Bloomingdale, Georgia, formerly of North Platte, passed away Dec. 24, 2017, at home, surrounded by his immediate family.

Robert Kenneth Barnes was born on July 17, 1943, in North Platte to the late Melzar (Red) and Opal Lee Barnes. He graduated from North Platte High School in 1961.

After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1964-68 at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha.

He met his wife of 49 years, Mary Morehouse Barnes, in 1967, and they were united in marriage in June 1968. They moved to Marrietta, Georgia, in 1969 so he could work for Lockheed Aircraft, then worked in the heating/air conditioning field after being laid off.

In 1974, they moved to North Platte, where in 1975, he started his career at Union Pacific Railroad. He retired from UPRR in 2005.

In 2013, they moved to Bloomingdale to enjoy retirement. He enjoyed spending time at the lake, camping, boating, waterskiing, golfing, going to stock car races and watching NASCAR.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Shelly (Lyndon) Ginn of North Platte and Cindy (Brian) Canaday of Sutherland; grandchildren, Lauren and Parker Ginn of North Platte and Trevor Shannon of Sutherland; brother, James (Judy) Barnes of Granite City, Illinois; sister, Frances Burch of Ravenna; aunts, Dorothy Miller of Omaha and Daisy Musser of Tryon; sisters-in-law, Sandra (Ron) Bosiljevac of Pooler, Georgia, and Sharon (Craig) Koppit of Omaha; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Bethel Evangelical Free Church, 2700 W. Philip Ave. in North Platte. Galen LaVerne Reed

Galen LaVerne Reed, 57, of North Platte, died at his home on January 1, 2018.

Galen was born April 18, 1960, in Winchester, KS, to Francis Loran and Leola Vernita Reed. He grew up in Kansas and later moved to Colorado. Galen worked in maintenance at the University of Colorado in Boulder, drove trucks for farmers in western Nebraska then became an over-the-road truck driver. He retired from driving following a stroke.

Galen liked to play pool and was on a pool league. He also liked camping, fishing, NASCAR racing and grilling for his neighbors. Galen had a big heart and loved people.

He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Reed; his mother, Leola Baker; and brother, Frank.

Survivors include his daughter, Chelsea Reed, and her mother, Cara Reed; siblings, Bobby, Peggy, Robin and Dawn; special friend, Debra Huntington; stepdaughters, Sawsha (Wesley) Shackelford, Jennifer (Justin) Jeffries and Kaela (Bryon) Henry; and other family.

Clarence “Ike” Anthony Fisher

Clarence “Ike” Anthony Fisher, age 73 of North Platte, passed away at his home on Thursday January 4, 2018.

A family led Celebration of Life service will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday January 11, 2018 at the Victory Church of God with Pastor Dean Bailey officiating.  Inurnment will follow at Garfield Cemetery.  A luncheon will be held prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday January 11, 2018 at the Eagles Club in North Platte.  Adams and Swanson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Clarence Frank “Bub” Arensdorf

Clarence Frank “Bub” Arensdorf, of McPherson County, NE, passed away at the age of 93, on Friday, January 5, 2018, at the Sutherland Care Center.

Clarence was born October 23, 1924, to Nicholas George and Margaretha (Pittz) Arensdorf on the family ranch in McPherson County. He grew up on the homeplace and graduated from District 60 Country School. Clarence stayed on the ranch to work with his dad, farming and ranching, which he did his entire life. He also worked for McPherson County, maintaining roads for 30 years, and served on the Farm Service Board for 12 years and the District 60 School Board for several years. Over the years Clarence received the Grassland Conservation Award as well as the Tree Award.

On September 4, 1949, Clarence was united in marriage to Lila Lee Humphrey in Sutherland and the couple continued to live on the homestead where they raised their family.

Clarence always liked sports and was both a Yankee fan and a Husker fan. In his younger days he played baseball then when he was older became a women’s softball coach. He also liked to play cards and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sutherland.

He leaves behind his wife of nearly 69 years, Lila, of Sutherland; daughters, Jacqueline (Wendell) Sachtjen, of Palmer, NE, Julie (Pat) Hoaglund, of Brady, NE, and Sheryl Arensdorf, of Sutherland; grandchildren, Tracy and Michelle Sachtjen, Robin Mann, Nichole Fleecs, Shawn Redden, Kelli and Matt Wiiest and Tiffany Hoaglund; 16 great-grandchildren, Jared, Tayvianna, Michael, Owen, Alexa, Wyatt, Ella, Austyn, Samuel, Kinley, Lyla, Bryden, Zayden, Allanaha, Payton and Ryan; and many nieces, nephews and other family.

Clarence was preceded in death by his daughter, Judith Arensdorf; parents, Nicholas and Margaretha; brothers, Joseph and Martin Arensdorf; and sisters, Alma Nicholson, Gertrude Arensdorf, and twins, Loretta Ross and Louisa Holcomb.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Sutherland with Pastor Mark Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. with family greeting friends from 4-6 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements. Harry “Stewart” Corns

Harry “Stewart” Corns, age 81 of North Platte, passed away Thursday January 4, 2018.

“Stew” was born on December 11, 1936 in Cambridge, NE to Erman Edward and Virgie (Scott) Corns.  The family moved to McCook in his early childhood and he graduated from McCook High School in 1954. He married Dorothy Mae Lennemann on June 16, 1956. After graduation he studied for one year at McCook Junior College and was Shop Forman for Reynolds Oldsmobile/Cadillac in McCook.  On June 16, 1958 he was sworn in as an officer in the Nebraska State Patrol.  He was drafted into the army in 1960 and after basic training he served for in Fort Knox, KY and Nuremberg, Germany.  After being discharged from the Army, he returned to the Patrol where he served for 37 years in Scottsbluff, Kimball, Chadron, Grand Island, and North Platte.  In 1976 he graduated from a general course of instruction at the FBI National Academy United States Department of Justice in Quantico, VA. He retired from the State Patrol at the rank of Captain in 1995. After his retirement, Stewart worked as a private security officer for the Social Security offices in North Platte.  He was an avid reader and spent many happy hours of his retirement picking out books at the Public Library.  He also spent time socializing with friends over morning coffee and following Nebraska Cornhusker Football.

Stewart is survived by his wife Dorothy; his two children, Linda (Corns) Pfenning and Greg Corns; his two granddaughters, Rebecca Pfenning and Alaina Pfenning-Butterworth; his niece, Karen Hunter; cousins Sandy Shaerer and Gene Stark; and many friends and former colleagues.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the North Platte Public Library and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.  A Rosary Vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday January 9, 2018 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with the Reverend Josh Brown as celebrant.  Burial will follow at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery with military honors.  Those wishing to do so may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday January 9, 2018 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

Roger Lee Kinsinger Death Notice

Roger Lee Kinsinger, age 62 of North Platte, passed away Thursday January 4, 2018 at his home.  A family led memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday January 6, 2018 at The Rock Church.  Cremation was chosen and inurnment will follow at the Riverview Cemetery in Sutherland.  Adams and Swanson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Luke Paul Ranck

Luke Paul Ranck died peacefully, surrounded by family on January 3, 2018 in Lincoln, NE at the age of 74.

Luke was born January 8, 1943 to Luke Jacob and Mary Helen (Galli) Ranck in Philadelphia, PA.  He was raised in Gloucester County, NJ and attended Gloucester Catholic High School, graduating in 1960.  He married Frances Jean Ingram, the love of his life, on November 7, 1964.  Luke and Fran raised their four children in North Platte, NE and were deeply involved in the Catholic Church, North Platte Catholic Schools, Knights of Columbus and many other organizations and activities.  Luke founded the Nebraska Safety and Fire Equipment Company in 1983 and retired in 2010.   Luke was dedicated to his faith, his family, his friends, his employees, and customers.  Luke was a hard-working and detail-oriented person.  He rarely forgot a number, date, or name and was always welcoming and attentive.  He was able to converse with anyone, anywhere, on nearly any topic.  He continued to refine his storytelling skills with his coffee group after retirement.  Luke enjoyed spending time at McDaid Elementary school tutoring kids and felt blessed for the time with each of the students.

Luke is survived by wife Fran; children Luke Paul (Shelly) Ranck II, John Joseph (Misti) Ranck, Beth Ann (Carl) Nemec, Mary Jo (Cory) Chandler; grandchildren Payton Ranck, Luke Paul Ranck III, Connor Ranck, Jackson Ranck, Bennett Ranck, Isabella Nemec, Isaac Nemec, Gianna Nemec; sisters Eleanor Drebick, Ethel (Doug) Hauser, Mary (John) Lynam; brother Edward Ranck; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by parents Luke Jacob and Mary Helen (Galli) Ranck; sister Irene; brother David; and mother-in-law Josephine Mitchell.
