Bob Lewis Mann

Bob Lewis Mann, 85, of Brady, died Nov. 2, 2017, at Cozad Care and Rehabilitation.

Bob was born on Dec. 13, 1931, in Gothenburg, the son of George and Ruth (Buterbaugh) Mann.

He grew up in Gothenburg and graduated from Gothenburg High. Bob lived in the Gothenburg, Brady and Jeffery Lake areas. He farmed and grew popcorn for Jolly Time and was a hay buyer for many years.

Bob served his country in the National Guard for seven years. He married Mary Ellen Block on May 31, 1953, at the Christ Lutheran Church, and the couple had three children, Jack, Lynne and Sandy. The family made their home at Jeffrey Lake south of Brady for 43 years.

Bob was the president of the Jeffery Lake Association for many years. He enjoyed flying, stock car racing, boxing, motor boats, sailing and Nebraska football and volleyball.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruth Mann; brothers, Don Mann and twin brother Bill Mann; and sisters, Adeline Schabrum and Annette Ostrom.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen of Brady; children, Jack (Pam) Mann of Brady, Lynne (Rocky) Johnson of Brady and Sandy Burke of Brady; grandchildren, Jake (Ericca) Johnson of Brady, Lucinda (Dan) Robison of Brady, Muffy Johnson (Mario Olvera) of Cozad, Luke (Kim) Mann of Clayton, North Carolina, Jed (Natalie) Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Keifer (Sarah) Burke of Brady, Sawyer (Kylee) Burke of Kansas City, Missouri, and Maggie Burke (Taylor Staggs) of Lincoln; 24 great-grandchildren with the 25th due in January; brothers, Dave (Jody) Mann of Jeffrey Lake and Dale (Patty) Mann of Hastings; and sister, Francis (Tim) McClellen of Gothenburg.

Maddox Archer James

Maddox Archer James, 2 months, a fighter right from the start and until his passing on Oct. 20, 2017. This world has lost a beautiful angel.

Maddox Archer James, blessed this world with his birth on July 26, 2017, to his loving and devoted parents, Benjamin James and Seabreanna Marshall of North Platte.

He is survived by his mommy and daddy, his puppy Dexter, loving grandparents, Michael and Ann James of North Platte, Todd and Sherry Marshall of Duchesne, Utah; great-grandmother, Charlene Smith of North Platte; many aunts, uncles, cousins and so many others who all loved him dearly.

Maddox’s life was short but this little boy helped teach all of us so many important lessons. From Maddox we all learned to be a little more patient, kind loving, brave and for some, closer to their faiths.

Oh precious boy of ours. We will never see your first smile or hear you laugh. All of the hopes and dreams we had for you are gone, but you will shine in our hearts forever. We will cherish the time we had with you and draw on the memories of your beautiful face to get us through. Rest well little one. Run, play and laugh. You are so loved and missed.

Cremation was chosen. A private family memorial will be at a future date.

Wilma Schultz

Wilma Schultz, 78, of North Platte, passed away, November 2, 2017, at her home.

She was born on December 18, 1938, in Rexburg, Idaho to William and Bessie (Briggs) Broadhurst. She married Donald  P. Schultz on January 25, 1956 in Ogden, Utah.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; step parents, Laura Broadhurst and Woodrow Smith; son, Marc Schultz; siblings, Kim Smith and Marla Smith and niece Charlotte Schultz.

She is survived by sister, Connie Edwards; brother Boyd (Linda) Smith; step sisters, Terri Moran and Sandi Caldwell;  son Eric Schultz; daughter, Monica (John) Hoaglund; grandchildren, Christopher (Tiffany) Hoaglund ,Skyler (Crystal) Hoaglund, Morgan Hoaglund; great grandchildren, Matthias Hoaglund, Izabella Hoaglund, Daryl Hoaglund and Jacqueline Hoaglund; niece, Teresia (Eric) Roberson; nephews, Alan Smith and Alan Schultz; close friends, Skip Coleman, Michelle Marsh, Darius Marsh and Clara Bercot.

Eldon Wayne Marshall

Eldon Wayne Marshall, age 79 of Stapleton, passed away Tuesday October 31, 2017 in Gilbert, AZ.

Eldon was born July 4, 1938 on his family’s farm south of Eustis, NE to Richard “Pete” and Dorothy (Puls) Marshall.  He was confirmed in 1953 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Eustis and attended grade school in Warsaw, IN before his family returned home to Nebraska, where he graduated from Elwood High School in 1956.  In 1960 he graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  He eventually obtained both a Master’s and post-graduate degree in Education.  In the fall of 1960, he took his first job in Wauneta, NE as a business teacher.  He then went on to teach, coach and serve as Principal and Superintendent at several schools including Culbertson, Stamford, Eustis, Stapleton and Maxwell.  Eldon married his sweetheart, Carole Jean Whipps, whom he lovingly referred to as “Jeannie” in Straton, NE on May 29, 1960.  It was during their time in Wauneta that their children Craig and Marcia were born.  Craig followed his dad’s footsteps into the education field and eventually obtained a position as Superintendent of Wymore Southern High School, before his untimely death in 2009.  After his retirement, Eldon and Carole made their home in Stapleton, NE where he created strong relationships with his granddaughters Emilee and Kacee by visiting frequently and never missing a sporting event.  In 2001 Eldon and Carole became snowbirds and established a second home in Queen Creek, AZ.  He was a 50 year mason in the Elwood Lodge, a member of the Logan County Fair Board, and a subscriber of Husker Illustrated and Hail Varsity.  He was a harasser of his family and friends by telephone right up until his death.

Eldon is survived by his wife Carole of Stapleton, NE and Queen Creek, AZ; daughter Marcia Higgins of North Platte, NE; daughter-in-law Vicki Marshall of Niobrara, NE; granddaughters Emilee Higgins of Columbus, NE, Kacee Higgins of Kansas City, MO, Ciera Marshall of Sioux Falls, SD; 2 great granddaughters; brother Lesley (Jackie) Marshall of Amarillo, TX; mother-in-law Vera Whipps of Florence, AZ; as well as countless other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Dorothy Marshall; son Craig Marshall; and father-in-law Frank Whipps.

In lieu of flowers, a donation fund has been established in Eldon’s name at Community First Bank with locations in North Platte and Stapleton, to be used for a memorial in Eldon’s honor.  Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday November 10, 2017 at the First Lutheran Church in North Platte with Reverend Steve Berke officiating.  Burial will follow at the Gothenburg Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday November 9, 2017 with family receiving friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

 

Evelyn Lorraine (Johnson) White

Evelyn Lorraine (Johnson) White, age 86 of North Platte, died Sunday November 5, 2017 at Linden Court.

Evelyn was born on April 9, 1931 in Arnold, NE to Arthur “Nick” and Ruth “Ellen” (Teaford) Johnson.

She graduated from Hershey High School with the class of 1949.  On May 18, 1952 she married Lyle White at the Methodist Church in Hershey, NE.  She worked at North Platte Livestock sale barn for 47 years, and part-time at her son’s business, White Auction Service, retiring in December 2007.  Evelyn was a member of the First United Methodist Church in North Platte for the past 58 years and a member of WSCS (Women’s Society of Christian Services), Osgood Mothers Club, and the Homemakers Extension Club.  She loved to cook for her family at any time, it didn’t have to be a holiday; her cooking always made it a special occasion.  She was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids in sporting events.

Evelyn’s survivors include a daughter, Janean (Kelly Bailey) Dorram of North Platte; a son Jeff White of Hershey; three brothers, Lyle Johnson of North Platte, Don (Joan) Johnson of Hershey and Gene (Marcy) Johnson of North Platte;  one sister Peggy Chaney of Lincoln; four grandsons Chad (Angela) Dorram of Sutherland, Casey (Marcy) Dorram of Gretna, Tucker White and Cooper White of Hershey; great-grandchildren Taylor and Briley Dorram of Sutherland, and Levi and Haley Dorram of Gretna.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle; her parents Nick and Ellen Johnson; brother-in-law William (Bill) Chaney; sister-in-law Janet Johnson; and nephew Monty White.
