According to a new study, Facebook status updates are more memorable than the human face.

Researchers found we have a remarkable memory for “microblogs.” We can understand and respond strongly to spontaneous ideas that spring forth from our friends.

We also have a very powerful mental updating ability – which is why so many people are hooked on social media like Facebook and Twitter.

Does this mean obituaries will soon include memorable status updates instead of photos?

Russian President Vladimir Putin is banning smoking in several public places – and will be limiting the sale of cigarettes starting this June.

While here in America we’re getting used to big-time restrictions on smoking, the Russians are going out of their minds because of the new laws.

The World Health Organization says that nearly 60 percent of Russian men smoke.

Except for places like hospitals or schools, you were pretty much allowed to smoke wherever you wanted, at any time.

Not anymore.

A man in Maine was charged with disorderly conduct for making business owners grumpy by standing around and whistling at ear-splitting volume – but not convicted after he agreed to tone down the dopey habit by not staying in one place while he whistled.

Robert Smith has been detained several times on charges of disturbing the peace with his musical “talents,” which he is specifically banned from showcasing on public streets – because they’re lumped into the same category as “shouting, hooting or yelling.” He faced fines of up to 500 bucks per stop if he hadn’t agreed to confine the whistling to moments when he was in motion.

Smith, who has a lengthy criminal record for non-whistling offenses, says, “God is showing me what I’m doing is OK. He shows me every day with laughter.”

A Brooklyn man slapped his parents with a lawsuit for $200,000 claiming that they left him homeless and destitute because they raised him in a poor household-and to top it all off, they didn’t love him enough.

Bernard Anderson Bey, 32, claims his parents did not give him enough support of affection.  As a result, he wants them to mortgage their home and buy a Domino’s Pizza franchise so they can employ the whole family.

Bey claims in the suit that as a child, his father beat him, called him names and did drugs in front of him.

The suit was filed with the Brooklyn Supreme court.

 

A 10-year-old boy in Massachusetts took the bold step of calling 911 to turn in his mom for a serious crime – trying to make him to go his room at bedtime.

Dan Davis was upset because his mother sent him to bed at 8 p.m., even though he was on a week-long break from school, and warned her that he’d call the police if she insisted.

Shamayne Rosario laughed off her son’s threat, but when he dialed the number and then made a beeline for his room, officers returned the call – only to have Rosario answer and try to get the boy to explain himself, which he refused to do.

Brockton police say they were required to stop by the house to check out the situation, which they did – and delivered an all-clear, along with a lecture requested by the ticked-off mom. While the cops left after giving the boy a scolding, he did receive a 14 day sentence – from his mom, who grounded him for a full two weeks.

The economy may have remained sluggish last year but Americans refused to scrimp on their pets, with animal lovers spending upwards of $53 billion on food, veterinary care, kennels and other services in 2012.

That’s up 5 percent from 2011, when spending first broke the $50 billion barrier, says the American Pet Products Association, a trade group based in Greenwich, Conn. And APPA President and CEO Bob Vetere predicts another 4 percent gain this year.

At about $34.3 billion, food and vet care represented about two-thirds of total spending, with money spent on supplies and over-the-counter medications rising by more than 7 percent. Spending on the growing market of alternative vet care, such as acupuncture, totaled about $12.5 billion.

Vetere says spending on services like grooming, boarding, hotels and pet-sitting grew nearly 10 percent during 2012 to almost $4.4 billion.

A New Zealand woman has died, and the doctors have determined that the cause of death was her addiction to Coca Cola.

Natasha Harris went into cardiac arrest and died at the young age of 30, and doctors have determined that her death was due to the fact that she drank at least 10 liters of Coca-Cola per day according to a report on BBC News.

At the time of her death, a coroner found that Harris had hypokalemia, or a lack of potassium in the blood caused by the enormous amount of sugar she consumed.  Harris’ family said that she was addicted to the soda, and if she didn’t get her fix, she would go into withdrawal and experience shaking and an overall sick feeling.  Harris had to have all of her teeth removed due to sugar decay from her drinking habit.

At least one of her children was reportedly born without enamel on his or her teeth.  Doctors determined that this was a direct result of her addiction to Coke.
