(LETTERS TO THE POST) Does She Really Want To Hang Out?

My sister and I love each other but we don’t really hang out. She lives in Kearney. She called me at midnight last night to tell me that she was at a club here in North Platte.

She didn’t call me when she was on line. She didn’t call me when she was on her way into town. She didn’t call me when she was on line in the club. She called me when she was inside at midnight.

Did she call to ask me to drop everything to hangout? Or did she call just so they wouldn’t feel guilty for not calling if I found out she was in town?

Signed,
Maria

How Do Tell A Guy I Want To Be Friends So I Can Meet His Other Friends?

Hey guys my name is Dawn and I’m a huge fan of the North Platte Post, I read it every morning at my desk. So I’m emailing you because last night I ran into a guy I work with at a bar and he was with a bunch of his friends who I found very attractive. I didn’t hang out with them but I wanted too.

I wanted to know if you thought it would be weird if I befriended my work friend so I could get to know his other friends. I don’t want him to think I’m interested in him because I don’t date guys I work with. Do you think he’ll go for it?

Thanks,
“Dawn”

(OPINION) 10 year old pulls real gun on Halloween

What would you do? Better yet what would you do to your kid if he/she did this? Can the kid pull the self defense card?

Police in Georgia said a 10-year-old trick-or-treater pulled a gun on a woman who joked about stealing his candy.

Aiken police said the 28-year-old woman told officers she recognized some of the boys in the group of about 10 trick-or-treaters from her neighborhood and joked with them that she would like to take their candy.

Police said the 10-year-old boy responded, “No, you’re not,” and brandished a 9mm handgun, which he pointed at the woman.

Investigators said the clip was not in the gun at the time but the boy did have a loaded clip in his possession.

Police said the boy’s brother, also 10, told officers he also had a gun, which was recovered Tuesday morning.

The boys, who were released to their parents, told officers they had taken the guns from their grandfather without permission.

(LETTERS TO THE POST) I think I’m In A “Father Daughter” Relationship

(Not an actual picture of Kristen…)

Hey guys my name is Kristen I’m 19 years old and dating a man in his late 40’s who I realized over our 1 year relationship acts like a father to me.

I know this sounds creepy but I realized that he’s the person who gives me advice and guidance on everything, stuff I would ask my father if he was alive. Now I find it weird that I’m with him but love him and don’t know if I can break it off.

So do you think I should break it off or do you think I’m overreacting?

Please help!
Kristen

(LETTER TO THE POST) How OLD IS TOO OLD TO Trick or Treat?

My name is Tami I’m emailing you this morning because yesterday I had a parent come to my house and yell at me for turning her 16 year old son away for trick or treating in barely a costume and just being too old in my opinion.

She said he had a costume on that he was Justin Bieber and that he should be allowed to trick or treat as long as he has a costume on. I thought it was weird that she even came over to tell me that it’s not like I had confrontation with her son, he laughed and kept on moving.

Do you think I had the right to turn her son away for trick or treating at the age of 16 and a sad excuse for a costume?

Signed,
Tami

(Listener Email) Brad has an ISSUE

Dear Letters To The Post,

My name is Brad and I’m emailing you this morning because once again my mom is going to give out raisins and apples today on Halloween and I’m going to get harassed by all of my friends for it.  I’m 13 and most of them don’t trick or treat anymore but they take their little brother’s and sisters and then will text me that my house stinks! The thing I think about most is that on Halloween all across America there are other kids just like me resenting their moms for giving out raisins and apples.  Were any of you one of these kids or am I all alone?

Signed,

Brad

(Opinion) Can I Date My Step Sister?

Is this right or wrong in your opinion? Post your comments below..

Hello everyone my name is Bill and I think I have a crush on my new step sister. My father married her mom in Vegas over the past weekend and we’re both 21 and attended the wedding.

We got drunk and couldn’t stop flirting with each other all weekend. Now we’ve been texting each other every day since and I don’t know if it’s wrong for me to ask her out?

We’re not blood related and only met a few months ago.

So is it really wrong for me to date my step sister?

Signed,
Bill

Random musings from Geno Verdez

Greetings-

I’ve been sitting back and surveying the city of North Platte for the last several months since the release of my book, “Welcome To Nebraska.” At first, I wondered if it was wise to dig up dirt on a town I know oh so well, and how it would be received. In honesty, I have come to realize that most of those who have read it are not surprised by its contents. In fact, more than one review would indicate that the reader could identify with one or more of the characters. Good. That was the intent. But it is a world that most are not completely accustomed to; at least not from a first-hand perspective.

Lately as I watch, and wait, and gather….I find that there are more than enough juicy tidbits in the news that would certainly add fuel to a creative fire. But alas, when the population is being exposed to children locked in dog kennels, perp after perp getting busted for sexually assaulting kids, and the meth use that is too widespread to ignore, I realize that I would have to strive for a ridiculous level to shock anyone around here anymore.

That’s not to say that I write for shock value; I write for release. I write to chase away the demons. Or, at least channel them…

Let me make one thing clear, there are a tremendous number of very good people in this area. And there are quite a few bad. Same story- thousands and thousands of towns and cities across America; the world. Varying degrees of drama, crime, freedom and chaos.

We’re just chillin’ here on our chunk of the rock. Make the most of it. Make your mark.

Love each other. Don’t molest children. And try to stay out of jail.

Until then-
Geno Verdez

(SURVEY) Do you still refuse to use any of the social networking tools like Twitter and Facebook?

A new survey has found that women are more likely to use Facebook, Twitter and blogging to stay in touch with people — while men are still more likely to use the phone.

Some Survey Results …

68 percent of women use social media to stay in touch with their friends, compared to only 54 percent of men.
60 percent of women use social networks to keep in touch with family, compared to only 42 percent of men.
34 percent of women use Facebook and Twitter to correspond with their colleagues, compared to just 22 percent of men.
The bottom line is that men are lagging behind women when it comes to communicating with others through social media.

Q: Does your husband or boyfriend use Facebook more than you do? A lot more? How many hours a week is he spending on there? How many hours are you spending?

Q: Do you still refuse to use any of the social networking tools like Twitter and Facebook? Why are you such a hater?
