Brady Eagle Sports Update – December 10

The Eagle and Lady Eagle basketball teams hit the hardwood for two games last weekend. The Eagle boys hope to learn a lesson from their defeat against one of the state’s best teams, while the Lady Eagles maintain their unbeaten record. Hear all about it in this week’s Brady Eagle sports update!

BASKETBALL: Bulldogs, Irish Make Season Debuts (LISTEN LIVE TONIGHT to the Lady Bulldogs on ESPN Radio 1410)

The North Platte Bulldog boys and girls basketball teams get their seasons underway tonight. The Bulldog boys return four starters in Matt Kaminski’s second year on the sidelines. They face Lincoln High at the Doghouse tonight, with the tipoff scheduled for 7:30. The Lady Bulldogs bring back two starters for head coach Mark Woodhead. They make the trip to the capital city to face Lincoln High’s Lady Links. ESPN Radio 1410 will have the broadcast of the girls game, with pregame coverage at 7:30 and the tipoff at 7:45. Also tonight, the St. Pat’s Irish and Lady Irish, both ranked in the preseason Class C2 polls, open their campaigns hosting Broken Bow. In other boys and girls hoops doubleheaders, Hershey travels to Gothenburg, Maxwell hosts SMC, Wallace is at Maywood, and Brady visits Wauneta-Palisade.

VOLLEYBALL: Irish, Sailors on to Semifinals

Two Lincoln County teams are on to the state volleyball semifinals after first-round action on Thursday. The St. Patrick’s Lady Irish are in the class C2 semis for the second time in four years after defeating Hershey in four sets (23-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-10). Brittany Lawrence had 21 kills and five service aces to help the Lady Irish advance. Maddie Seamann had 13 kills in the loss for the Lady Panthers. The Sutherland Lady Sailors moved on to the D1 semifinals with a three-set win over Alma (25-21, 25-17, 25-17). Sam Kennedy’s 18 kills paced the Lady Sailor attack. In class D2 action, Brady was eliminated by Mead in three sets (20-25, 21-25, 22-25). Madison Elliott had nine kills in the Lady Eagles’ losing effort. On Friday, St. Patrick’s plays Lutheran High Northeast ad 9 AM, and Sutherland takes on Exeter-Milligan at 6:30 PM. VOLLEYBALL: State Tournament Opens Today (LISTEN LIVE)

The state volleyball tournament opens today in Grand Island with four Lincoln County teams vying for state championships. Two of them face each other right out of the chute. The top-seed St. Patrick’s Lady Irish, owners of a 28-1 record and making their second straight state appearance, take on eight-seed Hershey, who’s back at state for the first time since 2006, in the first round of the C2 tournament at 9 AM. At 11 AM, the Sutherland Lady Sailors are in action. They’re the third-seed in the D1 tournament and are at state for the third straight year. Their first round opponent is Alma. The Brady Lady Eagles round out the local action at 2 PM, facing top-seed Mead in the D2 tournament. VOLLEYBALL: Sutherland, Brady State Bound, Lady Irish Play For Trip Tonight

The Sutherland Lady Sailors and Brady Lady Eagles are heading to Grand Island for next week’s state volleyball tournament. For Sutherland, it’s the third consecutive trip. The Lady Sailors pasted Potter-Dix in three sets, 25-11, 25-11, 25-10, in the D1-6 district final. Sam Kennedy led the Sutherland attack with 17 kills. In the D2-5 district final, Brady defeated Wallace in four sets, 25-22, 25-10, 23-25, 25-15, to make it to state for the second straight season. The Lady Eagles were third at state last year. Tonight the St. Patrick’s Lady Irish face Bridgeport in the C2-6 district championship at Creek Valley High School in Chappell. The Lady Irish are first in Class C2 in wild card points, meaning a trip to state is all but assured regardless of tonight’s outcome, but they’d love to capture a second straight district crown. First serve is set for 7:30.

VOLLEYBALL: Bulldogs Fall in District Final; Class D District Finals Tonight

The North Platte Lady Bulldogs lost in the finals of the A6 district volleyball tournament, falling in four sets to Lincoln Pius X 17-25, 21-25, 31-29, 20-25. Their season ends with a 19-12 record. Three Lincoln County teams play for the right to go to state tonight. In the D1-6 district final, Sutherland battles Potter-Dix at Creek Valley High School in Chappell. In the D2-5 district final at North Platte’s McGahan Activities Center, Brady faces Wallace. Both games are scheduled for 7 PM starts.

VOLLEYBALL: Subdistrict Final Results, Bulldogs Play in District Tournament Tonight

Four Lincoln County teams took home subdistrict volleyball championships last night. St. Pat’s continued their special season with a three-set win over Hershey in the C2-11 final. Sutherland took down Paxton in three sets in the D1-11 final. Brady came back from two sets to one down to beat Bertrand in the D2-9 final, while Wallace did the same against Wauneta-Palisade in the D2-10 final. District finals take place this Thursday and Friday.

The North Platte Lady Bulldogs play in the A6 district tournament tonight at Lincoln Pius X. The Lady Bulldogs finished the season with a 18-11 record. They are the second seed in the district and will take on Omaha Benson in their first-round match at 5:30. The Bunnies are 15-15 on the season. The winner will take on either Pius or Kearney in the championship match at 7 PM.

Brady Eagle Sports Update – October 22

The Eagle football team saw their season come to an end last Friday, but even though there are no playoffs in their future, a pair of seniors ended their careers in fine fashion. Also, the Lady Eagles successfully defended their Sandhills Conference volleyball title. Hear all about it in this week’s Brady Eagle sports update!

FOOTBALL: Week Eight Opens Tonight With District Title Clash Between Irish and Panthers

The final week of the prep football regular season gets underway tonight with some big games, none bigger than the clash for the C2-9 district title at Knights of Columbus Field in North Platte. The St. Patrick’s Irish are 7-0 and are obliterating their opponents, with their power rushing attack averaging close to 49 points per game. But tonight they’ll contend with the stout defense of the Hershey Panthers, which is limiting opponents just over 10 points per contest. Kickoff at the home of the Irish is set for 7 PM.

Elsewhere, Brady and Sutherland are playing their season finales. The Eagles play host to Hitchcock County, while the Sailors hope to end their season with a first win as they welcome Morrill to town. Gothenburg is at home hosting sixth-ranked Kearney Catholic, ninth-ranked Cozad takes on Ogallala in Cozad, Paxton makes a trip to take on SMC, and Hayes Center hosts unbeaten fourth-ranked Medicine Valley.
