Panthers, Eagles and Wildcats Roll – Bulldogs Tonight on ESPN Radio 1410

The Hershey Panthers wrapped up their regular season with a 54-18 win over Dundy County-Stratton in Benkelman last night. Jimmy Moore threw two touchdowns and ran for another for the Panthers in the victory, which moves them to 5-3. Elsewhere in high school action last night, Sutherland fell at Cambridge 42-26, Brady routed Hayes Center 52-16, Wallace routed Eustis-Farnam 50-26, and Ogallala blanked Gothenburg 21-0. Tonight on ESPN Radio 1410, the North Platte Bulldogs complete their season with a road matchup against Fremont. Both the Bulldogs and Tigers are 1-7 and would love to end their seasons on a winning note. Coverage starts at 6:30, leading to the kickoff at 7. Also tonight in Lincoln County football action, Maxwell takes on Crawford.

With only two weeks left in the high school football season, some teams are pushing for a playoff berth while others just want to finish the year on a high note. The North Platte Bulldogs play their final home game of the season tonight as they host Norfolk. ESPN Radio 1410 has the action with the pregame show at 6:30 and the kickoff at 7. The Hershey Panthers hope to make a late-season statement as they play host to Cambridge in their home finale. You can hear that game on Q-Country 107.3 FM, with coverage starting at 6:30 with the pregame show and a 7 o’clock kick. Elsewhere, the St. Patrick’s Irish welcome Dundy County-Stratton to town, Sutherland is at home against Bridgeport, Brady hosts Wallace in a Lincoln County showdown, and Maxwell travels to Sandhills/Thedford.

Swedes Softball Drops Two, Eliminated From State Tournament

The Gothenburg Swedes were eliminated from the Class C state softball tournament with a pair of losses yesterday in Hastings. The Swedes were dropped from the winners bracket with an 11-4 loss to Wahoo, and then fell to Fairbury 3-2 in an elimination game. The Swedes end their season with a 25-7 overall record.

Swedes Fall To Wahoo, Drop To Elimination Bracket

The Gothenburg softball team lost to Wahoo 11-4 in their second round contest at the Class C state tournament in Hastings today. The Swedes trailed 3-0 early but rallied to tie the score in the top of the fourth before Wahoo poured it on in the late innings. The Swedes now play Fairbury this afternoon in an elimination game.

Swedes Softball Wins First Round Game At State

The Gothenburg Swedes are on to the semifinals of the Class C state softball tournament after a 1-0 win over Raymond Central in first round play yesterday afternoon in Hastings. The Swedes scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth and pitcher Amanda Barkmeier made sure it stood up to give the Swedes the victory. The second-seeded Swedes move on to face sixth-seeded Wahoo, who routed Guardian Angels Central Catholic 9-4. If the Swedes win, they’d play a night game against the winner of the Ashand-Greenwood vs Arlington game with a berth in the championship game on the line. Should Gothenburg lose, they would play Fairbury in an elimination game, as Fairbury staved off elimination with an 8-6 win over Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan last night.

Swede Softball Opens State Tournament Play Today (UPDATE: Swedes Win First-Round Pitchers Duel)

The Gothenburg Swedes softball team begins their quest for a state championship today as the state softball tournaments open up in Hastings. The Swedes are the second seed in the Class C state tournament, a field that includes Fairbury, Guardian Angels Central Catholic, Arlington, Fillmore Central/Exeter Milligan, Wahoo, Raymond Central, and Ashland-Greenwood. Gothenburg will take on Raymond Central today in their first round contest. If the Swedes win, they’re off until tomorrow. If they should lose, they will play an elimination game against the loser of the Wahoo vs Guardian Angels Central Catholic contest. Gothenburg is making their first trip to the state softball tournament since 2008. They have a 1-6 record all-time at state in three trips and have never placed.

UPDATE: 11:15 PM: Gothenburg defeated Raymond Central 1-0 in first round play today.

State Girls Golf Wrapup

The first fall sport to complete its season wrapped up yesterday, as the state girls golf tournaments came to a close. The North Platte Bulldogs finished eleventh out of twelve teams in the Class A tournament at the Norfolk Country Club. The team shot a two-day score of 821, 136 strokes behind state champion Grand Island. Bulldogs senior Karissa Moreland shot an 87 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 176, good for a tie for fifteenth, thirteen shots behind state champ Gentry Carveth of Lincoln Southwest. In the Class C tournament at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus, Gothenburg junior Heidi Teahon finished with a two-day total of 210. That score was 66 strokes behind Danielle Lemek of Doniphan-Trumbull, who won her fourth consecutive state title, only the second girls golfer in state history to do so.

Girls Golf State Tournament, Day One – Bulldogs, Swede Hit The Links

The North Platte girls golf team is in eleventh place out of twelve teams after the first day of the Class A state tournament at the Norfolk Country Club. Karissa Moreland was the top performer for the Bulldogs on the day, carding a seventeen-over par 89. That score puts her in a tie for 15th among all individuals, eight strokes off of the lead. Jordyn Pearson, Karli Montgomery, Jenae States and Tessa Burford are also competing for the Bulldogs at state, with Pearson just outside the top 50 individually after shooting 32-over par. Gothenburg’s Heidi Teahon is competiting at the Class C state tournament at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus. Teahon carded a 34-over par on her first day, placing her in a tie for 50th individually. The state girls golf tournaments come to a close this afternoon.
