Softball Districts Open For Bulldogs

District play begins today for the North Platte Bulldog softball team in Millard. The Bulldogs are the third seed in the A4 district, hosted by Millard West. They will take on second seed Columbus this afternoon at 12:45, with the host Wildcats taking on fourth-seed Omaha North in a game played earlier. The Bulldogs wrapped up their regular season winning eight of their last nine games to end up with a 15-15 record. They took third place in the GNAC tournament last weekend in North Platte, besting McCook and Scottsbluff before falling to Kearney in the championship game. If the Bulldogs beat the Discoverers, they will play in a semifinal game at 4:15. If they lose, they will play an elimination game at 2:30. The Bulldog softball team is looking for its first trip to the state tournament since 2004.

Bulldogs Fall To Ogallala In Three

The third time was not the charm for the North Platte Bulldog volleyball team against Ogallala last night. The Bulldogs were swept 16, 15, and 22 by the Indians at the Ogallala Auditorium for their third loss to the Indians this season. North Platte nearly rallied in the third set down 24-17, scoring five straight points to put a scare into the Indians, but Ogallala was able to close it out for the win. The Bulldogs drop to 9-12 on the season with the loss. They are at a triangular at Lincoln Northeast against the host Rockets and Lincoln Southeast on Saturday.

Bulldog Volleyball Visits Ogallala (TONIGHT ON ESPN Radio 1410)

Tonight on ESPN Radio 1410, it’s North Platte Bulldog volleyball. The Bulldogs have won three of their last four matches, including a 2-1 record at the Columbus Classic over the weekend, to improve their record on the season to 9-11. Tonight they’re back on the road to face Ogallala. It’s the third meeting between the Bulldogs and Indians this season. The Indians have gotten the better of North Platte in two matches at the Dawghouse this season, once in two-sets at the season-opening triangular September 1st, and once in three sets in a best-of-five match on September 13th. The Indians are 15-7 on the season, and won four of six matches at the Twin Cities tournament last weekend. Coverage on ESPN Radio 1410 gets underway fifteen minutes prior to the varsity match at approximately 6:45.

Week Six Prep Football Results

Here are the results from local action in Week Six of the prep football season:

North Star 56, North Platte 14 – Gators’ Mike Minter, son of former Husker star, rushes for over 200 yards and four touchdowns. In the first half. Gators cruise, Bulldogs drop fifth straight.

Gothenburg 14, Cozad 0 – Swedes rise up and shut out their biggest rivals on Homecoming night.

Chase County 7, Hershey 6 – A missed extra point in the final minute dooms the Panthers to a second straight loss. Hershey defense allowed no points.

8 North Platte St. Patrick’s 54, Sutherland 22 – Easy win for the Irish, their third straight, on Homecoming.

3 South Loup 73, Maxwell 8 – Bobcats running attack proves too much for the Wildcats, who lose their third in a row.

Medicine Valley 49, Brady 48 – Missed two-point conversion with three minutes left costs the Eagles, who see a three-game winning streak snapped.

Wallace 44, Wauneta-Palisade 37 – Wallace breaks a three-game losing streak with the road win.

Prep Football Preview, Week Six (Bulldogs on ESPN Radio 1410, Panthers on Q-Country 107.3)

The second half of the prep football season begins tonight with action in Week Six. The North Platte Bulldogs are hoping to halt their four-game losing streak tonight as they host Lincoln North Star. ESPN Radio 1410 will have all the action from Bauer Field at Memorial Stadium, with pregame coverage at 6:30 and the kickoff at 7.

Elsewhere, the banged-up Hershey Panthers look to rebound from last week’s loss to St. Pat’s as they head to Chase County. Q-Country 107.3 has that game for you, with the pregame show at 7 and kickoff at 7:30.

The St. Pat’s Irish host Sutherland on their homecoming night. Maxwell looks to snap their two-game losing streak at home against third-ranked South Loup. Wallace travels south to face Wauneta-Palisade. And Brady hits the road to face Medicine Valley.

Prep Volleyball Results – September 27

The North Platte Bulldog volleyball team picked up a three-sets to none victory at Lexington last night. The Bulldogs ran off a 13-point run in the first set and won it easily 25-17. They were even more dominant in the second set, winning it 25-11. The Minutemaids hung around in the third set, but the Bulldogs were able to put them away by winning the set 25-22 and completing the sweep. The win improves the Bulldogs to 7-10 on the season. They are in Columbus for a single-day tournament this Saturday.

Elsewhere, Maxwell went 1-1 at a triangular, defeating Hayes Center in three sets and falling to unbeaten Paxton in two sets. Maxwell’s record moves to 8-7.

Wallace also split a triangular at home, beating Maywood but losing to Brady. The Eagles topped Maywood in the other match.

Gothenburg lost two heartbreakers at a triangular, falling to both Perkins County and Chase County in three sets.

St. Pat’s swept Mullen in three sets.

Bulldog Volleyball, Softball in Action Tonight (Volleyball On ESPN Radio 1410)

Tonight on ESPN Radio 1410, it’s North Platte High School volleyball. The Lady Bulldogs have posted a 6-10 record so far this season, and haven’t played since a loss to Kearney in four sets last Tuesday night. Tonight the Bulldogs head to Lexington to take on the Minutemaids, who are 2-12 with their only wins coming against one-win Cozad. With reserve and JV action taking place beforehand, coverage on ESPN Radio 1410 will begin at approximately 7:15. Also tonight, the North Platte Lady Bulldogs softball team is in action on the road, as they travel to Gothenburg. The Bulldogs lost to the Swedes 2-1 in a game played at the McCook Invitational on September 3 and are itching for another chance to try and beat Class C’s second ranked team. First pitch in Gothenburg is set for 6:30.

District play begins in Week Five of the high school football season, and the spotlight in Lincoln County falls upon Hershey. The unbeaten Panthers (3-0) square off with ninth-ranked St. Pat’s (2-1) in one of the most anticipated games of the season. Q-Country 107.3 has all the action from Hershey, with the pregame show at 6:30 and the kickoff at 7.

The North Platte Bulldogs (1-3) return home after two straight road games to host third-ranked Lincoln Southeast (3-1). ESPN Radio 1410 has the call from Bauer Field at Memorial Stadium, with a 6:30 pregame and a 7 o’clock kick.

Bulldog Softball Hosts Lexington (TONIGHT on ESPN Radio 1410)

Tonight on ESPN Radio 1410 it’s North Platte Bulldog softball. The Bulldogs and Lexington Minutemaids are no strangers to each other this season, having played each other twice. On August 30th in Lexington, the Bulldogs won a mercy-rule shortened game 10-1 in five innings. The Minutemaids were more competitive when the teams met at the North Platte Tournament last Saturday, but the Bulldogs were able to earn another victory, this one in a slugfest, 12-8. Tonight the two foes meet for a third time. North Platte comes in off a loss to McCook on Tuesday night that dropped their overall record to 8-14. Lexington enters tonight’s game with a record of 7-12. ESPN Radio 1410 has the action from the Dowhower Softball Complex tonight. Pregame coverage starts at 6:15 with first pitch at 6:30.

Prep Football Preview, Week 4 (Bulldogs on ESPN Radio 1410, Panthers on Q-Country 107.3)

Tonight on ESPN Radio 1410, the North Platte Bulldogs face their toughest test of the 2011 season when they head to Grand Island to face the unbeaten and second-ranked Islanders. North Platte, who is 1-2 on the season, will try and show progress defensively after allowing 105 points over the last two weeks. Coverage on ESPN Radio 1410 begins with the pregame at 6:30, leading to kickoff at 7.

The Hershey Panthers look to stay unbeaten as they host 0-2 Morrill tonight. Q-Country 107.3 FM has the action from Hershey, with the pregame show at 6:30 and a 7 o’clock kickoff.
