Hershey Panther Sports Update – October 10

The Panther football team lit up the scoreboard in a victory last week. Head coach Ryan Smith says his team is starting to play with a welcome sense of urgency.  Also, see how the Lady Panther volleyball team got back on track. It’s all here in this week’s Hershey Panther sports update!

GIRLS GOLF: State Tournaments Conclude

The state girls golf tournaments concluded yesterday, ending the first of the athletic seasons in the 2012-2013 prep sports year. In the Class A tournament in Norfolk, North Platte finished 10th out of 12 teams with a two-day score of 805. Tessa Burford shot a 190 and Jordyn Pearson fired a 195, both breaking 100 both days for the Lady Bulldogs. In the Class C tournament in Columbus, Gothenburg ended up in 11th place out of 15 teams with a team score of 863. Andrea Coder shot the team’s lowest score with a 210. Ogallala finished in second place as a team in Class C, five strokes behind champions Grand Island Central Catholic.

Sutherland Sailor Sports Update – October 9

The Sailor football team lost another game on Friday but made some big progress, especially on offense where they scored a season high 36 points. Head coach Joe Kaup talks about that progress as well as this week’s game against Paxton. The Lady Sailor volleyball team scored a huge win over their rivals. GIRLS GOLF: Bulldogs, Swedes Compete at State

The state girls golf tournaments opened yesterday with the teams from North Platte and Gothenburg participating. At the Class A tournament at the Norfolk County Club, the Lady Bulldogs rank 10th out of 12 teams with a one-day score of 402. Tessa Burford posted the lowest score for North Platte with a 92, a score that places her in a 30th place tie 14 strokes behind the leader.. Jordyn Pearson also broke the century mark, shooting a 99. Jenae States, Erin Green, and Lauren Wagner also completed their rounds for the Lady Bulldogs. In the Class C tournament at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus, Gothenburg ranks eighth of 15 teams with a one-day total of 422. Andrea Coder’s 98 was the low score for the Lady Swedes, 16 strokes off the leader. In team competition, Ogallala leads Grand Island Central Catholic by four strokes.

Brady Eagle Sports Update – October 8

The Eagles fell short against Hayes Center on the gridiron last Friday night, but not without a tremendous offensive effort. Head coach Andy Seamann talks about the key to his offense and what his defense must do to improve. Also, the Lady Eagles were busy on the court last week. Given a reprieve after a defensive penalty on the last play in regulation, the Bulldogs got a 36 yard field goal from Brandon Hedgecock to tie the game and a 26 yard field goal from Hedgecock to win it in the first overtime. Here’s how the winning field goal sounded:

Gothenburg Swede Sports Update – October 5

It continues to be an exciting time for Swede athletics. The softball team hopes to win a district title today. The volleyball team has appeared in the Class C1 top 10 for the first time. And despite their loss last week, the Swede football team remains focused going into tonight’s matchup against Chase County. Hear all about it in this week’s Gothenburg Swede sports update!

FOOTBALL: Week Seven Preview

It’s homecoming night at North Platte High, where the Bulldogs’ clash with Lincoln High is just one of many intriguing games in Week Seven of the prep season. The Bulldogs are hoping to go 2-1 in district play with a victory. ESPN Radio 1410’s coverage of Bulldog football gets underway with the pregame show at 6:30, leading to the kickoff at 7. Elsewhere, the St. Patrick’s Irish return from their bye week to put their unbeaten record on the line at Cambridge in a renewal of a fierce rivalry. Hershey tries to get back on the winning track as they host Dundy County-Stratton. Maxwell makes the trek to the Panhandle to take on Morrill. Sutherland hopes to make some steps forward as they host much-improved SMC. Brady travels to Hayes Center in what should be a shootout, and Wallace hopes to rebound from a loss as they play at home against Hitchcock County.

SOFTBALL: Bulldogs Fall to Thunderbirds, Will Play Elimination Game

The North Platte Bulldog softball team will be fighting for their season Friday morning when they take on Omaha Central in the elimination game at the A7 district softball tournament at the Dowhower Complex. The top-seeded Bulldogs eked out a win over fourth-seed Kearney in the first game, but were shutout by Bellevue West 7-0 in their second game. The Thunderbirds advance to the championship game at noon. North Platte will face the Eagles, who lost 8-0 to Bellevue West but rebounded to beat Kearney 8-0.

ESPN Radio 1410’s coverage of Bulldog softball will begin at 9:45 AM and carry until the Bulldogs are eliminated.

Maxwell Wildcat Sports Update – October 4

The Wildcat football team snapped their losing streak in decisive fashion, but they need to keep the wins coming if they hope to make the postseason. Head coach Ryan Jones talks about his team’s win over Sutherland and their coming matchup against Morrill. Also, the schedule is toughening up for the Lady Wildcat volleyball squad.
