Hershey Hosts Lexington (Listen LIVE on Q-Country 107.3)

The Hershey Panthers and Lady Panthers were both defeated in the SPVA championship games by St. Patrick’s last Saturday. Tonight, they hope to start moving on from those losses as Class B Lexington comes to town for a doubleheader. The Lady Panthers dropped to 12-4 on the season with the loss to the Lady Irish in the SPVA final, and will be challenged tonight by an 8-6 Minutemaids team. The Panther boys fell to 10-4 with their own championship game loss, but they will be favored tonight against Lexington, who has yet to win in 14 games this season. The varsity action is expected to begin with the girls game at around 5:45, with the boys game to follow at 7:30. Q-Country 107.3 FM will broadcast all the action of Panther basketball tonight, starting with pregame coverage around 5:30.

Bulldogs Visit Islanders Tonight (Listen LIVE on ESPN Radio 1410)

Tonight on ESPN Radio 1410, it’s North Platte High School basketball. The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs make the trip to central Nebraska to battle Grand Island. The 5-7 Lady Bulldogs are trying to snap a three-game losing streak, which was extended by a 57-42 home loss to Omaha Northwest last Saturday. That same night, the Bulldog boys pulled out a 53-45 victory over the visiting Huskies to move back to the .500 mark at 6-6. The Islander girls are 5-8 on the season, while the GI boys are 7-6. North Platte will be hoping to duplicate last season, when both the girls and boys defeated the Islanders at the Dawghouse. The girls game will tip off at 5:15 tonight, with the boys to follow at approximately 7 PM. ESPN Radio 1410’s coverage begins with the Kwik-Stop pregame show at 5 PM.

The SPVA girls basketball championship game is set, as both St. Patrick’s and Hershey advanced with semifinal victories last night. The top seeded Lady Irish eased past Perkins County 65-27, while second-seeded Hershey knocked off the stubborn Sutherland Lady Sailors 50-45. Saturday’s championship game will be a rematch of a December 10th meeting, won by Hershey. Tonight at North Platte Community College, the boys semifinals take place. At 6 PM, top seeded St. Patrick’s will battle Chase County. At 7:30, it will be second-seed Hershey taking on Sutherland. The matchup between the Panthers and Sailors will be broadcast live on Q-Country 107.3 FM, with the pregame show scheduled to get underway at 7:15.

SPVA Girls Semifinals Tonight (Hershey Panthers LIVE on Q-Country 107.3)

After a night off, the SPVA basketball tournaments resume tonight with semifinal action in the girls bracket. At 6 PM tonight, the top-seed St. Patrick’s Irish take on fourth-seed Perkins County, who beat Maxwell in the first round. At 7:30, second-seeded Sutherland battled three-seed Hershey, who knocked off Chase County in their play-in game. Tonight’s Hershey game will be heard live on Q-Country 107.3 FM. Pregame coverage starts at 7:15.

SPVA: Sutherland, Chase County Win Boys Play-in Games

Chase County and Sutherland advanced to the semifinal round of the SPVA boys basketball tournament with victories in the play-in games last night. The fourth-seeded Longhorns cruised past Maxwell 50-33, and the third-seed Sailors held off a stubborn Perkins County squad 60-54. Chase County will match up with St. Pat’s in the semifinal round, while Sutherland will face Hershey. Semifinals in the boys tournament are scheduled for Friday night. The SPVA girls tournament resumes tomorrow night with semifinal action.

SPVA: Girls First Round Results, Boys First Round Preview

The SPVA tournament opened last night with the two play-in games in the girls bracket. The two higher seeds advanced with victories, as third-seeded Hershey routed Chase County 52-23 and fourth-seed Perkins County toppled Maxwell 52-43. Tonight, the two boys bracket play-in games take place at McDonald-Belton Gymnasium at North Platte Community College. At 6 PM, fourth-seeded Chase County will take on Maxwell. The Longhorns beat the Wildcats back on December 30 at the Perkins County Holiday tournament. The winner of this meeting plays St. Pat’s in the semifinals. At 7:30, it’s the third seed Sutherland battling Perkins County. The Sailors earned a 55-50 win over the Plainsmen back on January 7. The winner gets a semifinal matchup with Hershey.
