The Gothenburg Swedes are on to the semifinals of the Class C state softball tournament after a 1-0 win over Raymond Central in first round play yesterday afternoon in Hastings. The Swedes scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth and pitcher Amanda Barkmeier made sure it stood up to give the Swedes the victory. The second-seeded Swedes move on to face sixth-seeded Wahoo, who routed Guardian Angels Central Catholic 9-4. If the Swedes win, they’d play a night game against the winner of the Ashand-Greenwood vs Arlington game with a berth in the championship game on the line. Should Gothenburg lose, they would play Fairbury in an elimination game, as Fairbury staved off elimination with an 8-6 win over Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan last night.
