Prep Volleyball Recap – September 8

Last night’s high school volleyball action:

-St. Pat’s swept past Broken Bow and Cozad in the Cozad triangular, topping the Haymakers 25-12, 25-13 before defeating the Indians 25-16, 25-21. Brittany Lawrence had 19 kills to lead the Irish, while Shelby Allberry added 14.

-North Platte lost in three sets at Aurora, 14-25, 15-25, 19-25. Kenzie Michaels tallied 11 kills for the Bulldogs.

-Maxwell defeated Maywood in three sets, 25-21, 25-21, 25-11. Kalyn Calhoun had seven kills and Madison Elliott served up 10 aces for the Wildcats.

Prep Football Preview, Week Three (Bulldogs On ESPN Radio 1410)

Tonight on ESPN Radio 1410 the North Platte Bulldogs play their first road contest of the season, as they head to the metro area to take on the Papillion-La Vista Monarchs. The seventh-ranked Monarchs are 2-0 and led by a quarterbacking duo that includes former Bulldog Trey Moore. North Platte is 1-1 and will try and bounce back from a 56-21 home loss to Columbus last week. Coverage on ESPN Radio 1410 begins with the pregame show at 6:30, leading up to the kickoff at 7. Elsewhere on the gridiron tonight…

-#2 St. Pat’s tries to follow up their impressive 56-0 opening win at Bayard as they visit Kearney Catholic in one of the best Class C2 games of the week.
-Sutherland heads to the panhandle to take on Bayard. Both teams are 0-1, with Bayard losing to St. Pat’s and Sutherland falling at Chase County, and both teams are coming off their bye week.
-Brady looks for their first win at SMC, who is also looking to rebound from an opening loss.
-Maxwell heads to Southwest in search of a 2-0 start of their own. The Wildcats topped Brady last week and face an 0-1 Roughriders team.

The St. Patrick’s Irish volleyball team played at the Cambridge Triangular on Tuesday night.

Bulldogs Swept In Grand Island

The North Platte Bulldogs dropped both ends of a softball doubleheader at Grand Island last night, with the sixth-ranked Islanders taking the first game 5-0 and the nightcap 11-1 in five innings. Cheyenne Craghead had the lone Bulldog hit in the first game. Ashten Hernandez pitched a complete game in the defeat. In the second game, Kaite Franzen scored on Sydney Standage’s RBI double for the only North Platte tally. The Bulldogs fall to 4-9 with the losses.

Prep Sports For 9-6 (Bulldogs Softball On ESPN Radio 1410)

Tonight on ESPN Radio 1410, it’s North Platte Bulldog softball. The Bulldogs are looking to turn around their 4-7 start to the 2011 season as they take on Grand Island in a doubleheader. The Islanders are ranked sixth in the Omaha World-Herald Class A poll. The first game between the Bulldogs and Islanders is set for 5 PM. ESPN Radio 1410’s coverage starts with pregame coverage at 4:45. Elsewhere in prep athletics today, the Sutherland volleyball team hosts a volleyball triangular, with Gothenburg and Southwest coming to town, as does Wallace, with Hitchcock County and Perkins County visiting. Brady’s volleyball team also plays in a home triangular as Paxton and SMC come calling, and St. Pat’s volleyball is headed to a triangular in Cambridge where they will also play Dundy County-Stratton.
