The North Platte Bulldog softball team will take the diamond in Lexington tonight in search of their first win of the season. The young Bulldog team, which features no seniors, is 0-5 on the campaign after dropping games against Lincoln Northeast, Ralston and Wayne at a tournament in Lincoln on Saturday afternoon. Tonight they take on a Lexington Minutemaids team that is 2 and 5 on the season. In their last games, the Maids went 1-2 at a tournament, beating Southern Valley and falling to Adams Central and Scottsbluff. They split a doubleheader with Northwest last Thursday to earn their other win this season. North Platte won both meetings against Lexington last season. Adam Bailey, North Platte – Went 5-5 on extra points, and drilled a 32-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Bulldogs to a 38-35 victory over Lincoln High.
Defense, Hershey – Limited Southern Valley to 40 total yards in a 20-0 shutout win.
Mitch Alexander, North Platte – Scored two touchdowns of 25 and 57 yards and blocked a punt, which he returned for a touchdown.
‘The Killer V’s’, St. Pat’s – Andrew Vinton and Thatcher Vap combined for 26 carries, 159 yards and 5 TDs in the Irish’s 56-0 pummeling of Bayard.
Jordan Hiatt, Hershey – Rushed 14 times for 85 yards and a pair of scores to lead the Hershey offense to victory.

Dawgs Win Thriller On Last-Second Kick
Adam Bailey’s 32 yard field goal as time expired lifted the North Platte Bulldogs to a 38-35 victory over the Lincoln High Links at Bauer Field at Memorial Stadium on Friday night. The heroic kick capped a wild affair that saw the Links erase a two-score deficit on two different occasions, including with 1:05 left to play to tie the score at 35. For North Platte, Mitch Alexander scored three of their five touchdowns – two on screen passes of 57 and 25 yards, and one on a blocked punt and recovery that gave the Dawgs a 35-21 lead with 5:21 left. Trevor Schramm and Jesse Henne each caught touchdown passes as well. Bulldog quarterbacks Dylon Mlady and Micah Lauber each threw a pair of touchdowns.

Hershey Defense Dominates In Shutout Win
The Hershey Panthers blanked the Southern Valley Eagles 20-0 in their season opening game in Hershey on Friday night. The Panthers held the Eagles to just 40 total yards of offense, and the Eagles had negative nine total yards in the first half. Jordan Hiatt led the offensive effort for the Panthers, rushing 14 times for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Jimmy Moore rushed for the other Panther score, and completed four of his eight passes for 80 yards.
No-Doubter – St. Pat’s Pummels Bayard In Opener
The St. Patrick’s Irish season of high expectations started with a bang in the Panhandle on Friday night, as the second-ranked Irish hammered Bayard 56-0. The Irish were led by their two-man ground attack of Andrew Vinton and Thatcher Vap. Vinton rushed 13 times for 78 yards and three touchdowns, while Vap carried 13 times for 81 yards and found paydirt twice. In the air, Matthew Jensen completed four of his five pass attempts for 125 yards and a touchdown to Sean Ryan, who caught three passes for 78 yards. The Irish led 42-0 at the half and were able to use all of their players in the victory.

Prep Football Season Is Here! (Bulldogs on ESPN 1410 AM, Panthers on Q-Country 107.3)
The high school football season opens up tonight for the North Platte Bulldogs, who take the field at Memorial Stadium tonight to face Lincoln High. The Bulldogs routed the Links 28-9 in the state capitol city last season to open their season on a high note, and will look to start head coach Bernie Madison’s third year on the sidelines the same way. ESPN Radio 1410 has all the action tonight, with pregame coverage at 6:30 and the kickoff at 7. Tonight on Q-Country 107.3 its Hershey Panther football, The Panthers start their quest for a second consecutive playoff berth as they host Southern Valley. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30 with a 7 o’clock kickoff. Elsewhere tonight, second-ranked St. Pat’s opens at Bayard, Sutherland travels to Chase County, Wallace hosts Potter Dix, and Gothenburg visits Ord.
Bulldog Softball Drops First Two Games
The North Platte Bulldog softball team opened their 2011 season with a pair of losses at a double dual in Hastings last night. The Bulldogs fell in their first game against Omaha Skutt Catholic 8-0 in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule. Skutt pitcher Kaylan Jablonski threw a no-hitter, walking none and striking out seven. The Bulldogs bats were more effective in the second game of the night, as they pounded out nine hits, but it wasn’t enough as they lost to Omaha Gross Catholic 10-5. Two runs in the top of the fifth inning by the Bulldogs tied the score at 2, but the Cougars scored four times in the 5th and four more times in the 6th. Christina Yoshida had two hits and an RBI and Aura Adkisson had an RBI triple for North Platte in the defeat. The Bulldogs play in the Lincoln Invitational this Saturday.
