NPCC Lady Knights Basketball Loses to Central

zulema viescasThe North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team were defeated by the Central Community College Lady Raiders 64-56 in the first National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX Division II contest for both teams.

NPCC Knights Basketball Loses to Otero in Overtime

mark gilbertThe North Platte Community College Knights basketball team lost in overtime to the Otero Junior College Rattlers 82-80 Friday night at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

NPCC Lady Knights Volleyball Team Signs Curlee

The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team signed Mikenna Curlee from Peetz, Colo. to a national letter of intent for the 2016 season.

Curlee,  a 5’11” middle, played four seasons for the Peetz High School Lady Bulldogs. During her career, Curlee played in 285 sets and had 794 kills.  She finished with a .249 kill efficililency, had 112 total blocks and 86 service aces.  She also had 486 defensive digs. Nebraska association board OKs gender participation policy

NSAA logoLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The leadership of a statewide association that sets policies for high school sports in Nebraska has adopted a gender participation policy.

The Nebraska School Activities Association board of directors Thursday approved the policy on a 6-2 vote. The policy requires a student to show he or she has undergone hormone therapy or gender reassignment surgery before being allowed to participate in a sport that’s inconsistent with the student’s gender at birth. Huskers Shoot to Road Win at Penn State

University Park, Pa. – Natalie Romeo knocked down a school-record eight three-pointers on her way to a career-high 32 points, shooting Nebraska to its first road win of the year with an 83-78 victory at Penn State on Wednesday night.

With the win, Nebraska improved to 11-5 overall and 2-3 in Big Ten play with its second straight victory, while Penn State slipped to 6-10 overall and 1-4 in the conference. Continue reading “Huskers Shoot to Road Win at Penn State”

NPCC Lady Knights Volleyball Team Signs Gilg

The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team has signed Madi Gilg from Gothenburg to a national letter of intent for the 2016 season.

Gilg, a 5’5” setter, played for the Gothenburg High School Lady Swedes for three seasons.  In her career, she played in 210 sets and had 966 assists, 486 digs, 76 service aces and 84 kills.

NPCC to Host Otero Junior College on Family Night

npcc oteroThe North Platte Community College Knights will host the Otero Junior College Rattlers at 7 p.m. Friday in the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium on NPCC’s South Campus.

The night is designated as “Fill the Gym / Family Night.”  Some of the events that will take place that evening will be free admittance for children under 12 with a paid adult admission, a free-throw contest for children, an opportunity for families to take their own pictures with Knightro, the new mascot, and face painting by the NPCC Art Department. Ex-NFL running back Lawrence Phillips found dead in prison

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California prison officials say former NFL running back Lawrence Phillips has been found dead in his prison cell, and they suspect suicide.

Officials say guards at Kern Valley State Prison found the 40-year-old Phillips unresponsive in his cell shortly after midnight Wednesday. He was pronounced dead about 1:30 a.m.

Huskers Top Gophers, 84-59

Lincoln – Shavon Shields’ 24 points and eight rebounds paced Nebraska to an 84-59 romp of Minnesota Tuesday evening.

Shields, who was making his 100th consecutive start for the Huskers, scored 19 of his points in the first half on 6-of-9 shooting, as the Huskers raced to a 21-point halftime lead.

Nebraska took control midway through the first half, using a 29-4 spurt to erase an early deficit, behind Shields, who scored nine points in the run to help NU take a 20-point lead in the first 14 minutes of the contest. Continue reading “Huskers Top Gophers, 84-59”

NPCC Lady Knights Basketball Loses to Doane JV

NPCC Knights LogoThe North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team were defeated by the Doane College Junior Varsity Lady Tigers 69-61 on Monday night.

The Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Knights back in November 54-51 in North Platte.  The Lady Knights are 13-8 all-time against Doane College JV.

Lady Knights Head Coach Richard Thurin said, “We played really well in the first half, but didn’t play very well on defense in the second half. We missed key free throws.” Continue reading “NPCC Lady Knights Basketball Loses to Doane JV”
