Manning leads Broncos past Chargers 27-20

DenverBroncosDENVER (AP) — Peyton Manning replaced Brock Osweiler in the third quarter Sunday and led the Broncos a 27-20 win over the San Diego Chargers that clinched the top seed in the AFC playoffs for Denver.

Chiefs beat Raiders 23-17 to enter playoffs on streak

Kansas City Chiefs LogoKANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Alex Smith threw two touchdown passes, Kansas City sacked Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr six times, and the Chiefs held on for a 23-17 victory Sunday to give them a franchise-best 10 straight wins entering the postseason.

The Chiefs were awaiting the result of the Denver-San Diego game to learn their playoff fate. If the Broncos win, they’ll head to Houston as the fifth seed. Huskers Fall at No. 14 Northwestern

Evanston, Ill. – The Nebraska women’s basketball team could not overcome a poor first-half shooting performance, suffering an 85-62 loss at No. 14 Northwestern on Sunday afternoon.

The Huskers slipped to 9-4 on the season with all four losses to top-25 opponents, including three on the road. Nebraska slipped to 0-2 in the Big Ten. Northwestern improved to 12-2 overall and 1-1 in the Big Ten. Continue reading “Huskers Fall at No. 14 Northwestern”

Huskers Come Up Short Against Hoosiers

Lincoln – Despite a team-high 16 points from both Jack McVeigh and Andrew White III, Nebraska fell to Indiana, 79-69, at Pinnacle Bank Arena Saturday afternoon.

Lincoln – The Nebraska women’s basketball team fell behind visiting Iowa by 16 points early in the second half before rallying to trim the lead to three points with six minutes left, but the Huskers were unable to complete the comeback in a 74-68 loss to the Hawkeyes in the Big Ten opener for both teams at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Thursday afternoon. Huskers Fall to Wildcats in Big Ten Opener

Lincoln – Despite a career performance from senior Benny Parker, the Nebraska men’s basketball team fell to Northwestern, 81-72, Wednesday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Evanston, Ill. – Six Husker wrestlers punched tickets to the semifinals after the first day of action in the 53rd Ken Kraft Midlands Championships at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Tuesday.

Shepard Claims Fifth Big Ten Freshman Honor

Lincoln – Jessica Shepard captured her fifth Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Week award in the first seven weeks of the 2015-16 season, when the conference office announced its weekly honors on Monday afternoon.

Shepard, a 6-4 forward from Fremont, Neb., notched her fourth double-double with 19 points and a career-high-matching 13 rebounds in Nebraska’s win over Arkansas State to close non-conference play on Monday, Dec. 21. It was her 10th double-figure scoring effort of the season, as she reached 200 points faster than any other freshman in school history (11 games). Chiefs hold off Browns 17-13 for 9th straight victory

Kansas City Chiefs LogoKANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Alex Smith threw two touchdown passes for Kansas City, and the game clock finally stopped Johnny Manziel as the Chiefs held on to beat the Cleveland Browns 17-13 on Sunday for their franchise record-tying ninth consecutive victory.
