NPCC Lady Knights Basketball to Play Two this Weekend

npcc york ewcThe North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team will play two basketball games this weekend.

On Friday, December 11, the North Platte Community College Lady Knights will host the York College Junior Varsity Lady Panthers at 5 pm at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.  The Lady Knights defeated the Lady Panthers on November 9th 68-50 at York. NPCC Knights Face Two South Sub-Region Opponents Over Weekend on the Road

npcc wncc ewcThe North Platte Community College Knights basketball team will be on the road this weekend when they play a couple of National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX South Sub-Region opponents, Western Nebraska Community College and Eastern Wyoming College.

On Friday, the Knights will face the Western Nebraska Community College Cougars at the Cougar Palace at 8:30 pm CST.  The Cougars are 8-5 on the season and 0-3 in South Sub-Region play.  They average 85.3 points per game and allow 72.9 points per game. Policy drafted for transgender student athletes in Nebraska

NSAA logoLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraska School Activities Association has proposed a draft policy that would put the initial decision to let transgender students in high school sports in the hands of parents and local school districts.

Theriot, Shepard Named to Naismith Trophy List

Lincoln – Nebraska’s Rachel Theriot and Jessica Shepard are two of 50 candidates named to the 2016 Naismith Trophy Women’s College Player of the Year Early Season Watch List announced today by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

Theriot, a 6-0 senior point guard from Middleburg Heights, Ohio, earned a spot on the Naismith Watch List for the second straight season, while Shepard, a 6-4 forward from Fremont, Neb., is the only freshman to earn a spot on the prestigious list. AUDIO: NPCC Lady Knights defeat Colby in Overtime

npcc colbyThe North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team defeated the Colby Community College Lady Trojans 66-62 in overtime on Wednesday, December 9.

The Lady Knights led in the first quarter by a score of 9-4 with five and a half minutes to go for their largest lead in the game.  At the end of the first quarter the Lady Knights led by one 15-14.  In the first quarter there were four lead changes and three ties. Huskers Fall to Creighton

Omaha – Despite a game-high 28 points from Andrew White, the Nebraska basketball team fell at Creighton, 83-67, Wednesday at CenturyLink Center Omaha.

Nebraska (6-4) whittled a 14-point first half deficit to 36-32 after an Andrew White III basket in the opening minute of the second half, but the Bluejays went on a 16-2 run as Geoffrey Groselle scored six of his 15 points in the spurt. Continue reading “Huskers Fall to Creighton”

Big Red Overpower Purple Aces

Lincoln – Jessica Shepard, Kyndal Clark, Rachel Blackburn and Allie Havers all produced big games to power Nebraska to an 85-40 women’s basketball win over Evansville at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Tuesday night.

Nebraska improved to 7-1 with the victory, while Evansville slipped to 1-7 on the season.

Shepard, a three-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week, set the tone inside for the Huskers with 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists and one blocked shot in just 15 minutes of action on the night. Continue reading “Big Red Overpower Purple Aces”

NPCC Lady Knights Basketball to Travel to Colby

npcc colbyThe North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team will travel to Colby, Kan. to take on the Colby Community College Lady Trojans on Wednesday, December 9 at 6 pm.

Former NPCC Lady Knight, Liewer, Receives Volleyball Accolades

Former North Platte Community College Lady Knight Volleyball player Shannon Liewer was named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American Honorable Mention of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) for the 2015 volleyball season.

Liewer, played for the Lady Knights during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The last two seasons she played for the Peru State College Bobcats.

Liewer, who is from Imperial, was a libero for the 25-13 Bobcat volleyball team in the 2015 season.  During her senior season for the Bobcats Liewer had 752 defensive digs in 135 sets.  She had 33 service aces and 18 set assists. Five Huskers Named to AVCA All-Region Team

LINCOLN – Five members of the Nebraska volleyball team earned AVCA All-North Region honors on Tuesday, matching the most all-region selections by the Husker volleyball team in school history.

Kadie Rolfzen earned her third career honor, while four Huskers – Mikaela Foecke, Kelly Hunter, Amber Rolfzen and Justine Wong-Orantes – earned their first career all-region honors. The last time the Huskers had five players on the all-region first team was 2007. The only other time was 2001.
