NPCC Knights Basketball Host Lamar

npcc lamarThe North Platte Community College Knights basketball team will host the Lamar Community College Runnin’ Lopes on Saturday, December 5 at 3 pm at McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

The game is a National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX South Sub-region contest.

Prior to the game, the name of the Knight mascot will be revealed.  Multiple names were suggested by students. The top three names were then voted on at the North Platte Community College facebook page to determine the name. Continue reading “NPCC Knights Basketball Host Lamar”

Huskers Storm Past NC State

Lincoln – All-American Rachel Theriot produced her sixth career double-double with 20 points and 11 assists to lead five Huskers in double figures, as the Nebraska women’s basketball team rolled to an 88-67 win over NC State at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Thursday night.

The Big Red improved to 5-1 overall with their only loss coming at No. 1 UConn, while notching their second straight win in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. NPCC Knights Basketball Fall to Northeastern

tim wagnerThe North Platte Community College Knights basketball team was defeated by the Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen on Wednesday night at the Bank of Colorado Event Center 103-89 in a National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX South Sub-Region contest.

The Plainsmen began the game with a 7-2 run to take the early lead with the only basket made by Victor Lewis.  The game was close in the first half with the largest lead in the half being 26-18 lead by the Plainsmen.  The Knights cut the lead to four at the end of the half trailing 49-45 at halftime. NPCC Lady Knights Basketball Fall to Northeastern

zulema viescasThe North Platte Community College Lady Knights were defeated by the Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen on Wednesday night at the Bank of Colorado Event Center 67-51.

The Plainswomen started out the game with a 7-2 run and extended their lead to 19-11 behind the hot shooting of Jessica Renata with four 3-point field goals.  The Knights came back with a 9-2 run with 3-pointers by Mickenzie Brennan and BreAsia Allison to end the first quarter trailing the Plainswomen 21-20. NPCC Knights Softball Host Mid-Winter Softball Clinic

softball clinicThe North Platte Community College Knights softball team will be hosting their Mid-Winter Softball Camp Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the North Campus hitting facility.  The camp will run from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  All ages are welcome to attend.

Royals acquire catcher Cruz from Cardinals for minor leaguer

kc-royalsKANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Royals have acquired backup catcher Tony Cruz from the St. Louis Cardinals for minor league infielder Jose Martinez while designating catcher Francisco Pena for assignment.

The teams announced the trade Wednesday.

Cruz hit .204 with two homers and 11 RBIs in 9 games for the Cardinals. The 29-year-old, who can also play third base, could compete with Drew Butera for the backup catcher job behind Sal Perez. Continue reading “Royals acquire catcher Cruz from Cardinals for minor leaguer”

NPCC Knights and Lady Knights Basketball Travel to Northeastern JC

npcc northeasternThe North Platte Community College Knights and Lady Knights basketball teams will travel to Sterling, Colo. to play the Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen and Plainswomen on Wednesday, December 2.

The Lady Knights will take a 4-3 record into the game against the Plainswomen, who are 3-5 on the season.

Both teams are National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX colleges.  In the women’s game the Plainswomen are Division I, while the Lady Knights are Division II, so the game will have no effect on regional standings. Huskers Fall to Hurricanes in Overtime

Lincoln – Shavon Shields scored a season-high 28 points to lead three Huskers in double figures, as Nebraska pushed No. 21 Miami to overtime before falling 77-72 in front of a sellout crowd of 15,646 Tuesday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Shields recorded his second 20-point game of the year and 16 second-half points, but Nebraska was unable to get the key basket in the extra session to take down the Hurricanes

Trailing 70-68 after a pair of Andrew White III free throws with 3:39 left in overtime, Davon Reed gave Miami the lead with a 3-pointer with 2:41 left to put the visitors on top, 71-70. Continue reading “Huskers Fall to Hurricanes in Overtime”

Westerkamp Lead NU All-Big Ten Offense Picks

The Nebraska offense was represented by four players on the All-Big Ten Conference teams announced on Tuesday. The league office previously announced defensive and special teams winners on Monday.

Leading the way among NU’s offensive honorees is junior wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp. The Chicago native was a second-team All-Big Ten choice by both the conference coaches and the media who covers the league. Westerkamp leads Nebraska with 63 receptions for 874 yards and seven touchdowns.
