Huskers Prepare to Host Hawkeyes

Lincoln, Neb. – The Huskers practiced for just under two hours Tuesday in the Hawks Championship Center and Gass Practice Facility in preparation for Friday’s game against the third-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes.

Offensive Coordinator Danny Langsdorf spoke to the media after practice about facing the Hawkeye defense.

“They don’t give up many big plays, they’re really sound and really solid across the board,” Langsdorf stated when asked about the biggest challenge the Iowa defense will bring. “They’re well coached and they’re always in good position, and you see that week in and week out.” Continue reading “Huskers Prepare to Host Hawkeyes”

Huskers Host No. 18 Illinois on Wednesday

The fifth-ranked Nebraska volleyball team enters the final week of the regular season with an eight-match win streak and will look to continue it against No. 18 Illinois on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The match will be televised on NET and streamed online at BTN2GO.com. John Baylor and Diane Mendenhall will have the radio call on Husker Sports Network (107.3 FM in Lincoln and 105.9 FM in Omaha). Rodgers a Namesake for New Big Ten Award

The Big Ten announced today a number of enhancements to the conference’s postseason football awards program, including the creation of the Rodgers-Dwight Return Specialist of the Year. Named after former standouts Johnny Rodgers of Nebraska and Tim Dwight of Iowa, the annual trophy will honor the conference’s top performer on kickoff and/or punt returns.

The Big Ten will continue to celebrate its past while recognizing current students with 20 different trophies bearing the names of former standouts. The distinguished names on these football awards honor just a small sampling of the countless students and coaches who have contributed to the conference’s rich and storied history. Huskers Shut Down Southern

Lincoln – Jessica Shepard and Natalie Romeo both produced 20-point scoring efforts and the Nebraska defense played a record-tying first half in an 89-38 women’s basketball win over Southern Monday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The Huskers completed their season-opening home stand with a 4-0 record thanks to 22 points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals from Shepard (Fremont, Neb.). The two-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week notched her fourth consecutive 20-point performance to open her career, including 14 points on 6-of-6 shooting in the first quarter to help the Big Red jump to a 29-10 lead. Huskers Prepare to Handle Hawkeyes

Lincoln, Neb. — The Nebraska football team practiced in half pads for 90 minutes on Monday in the Hawks Championship Center and Outdoor Practice Facility, preparing for a Black Friday matchup against the undefeated Iowa Hawkeyes in Lincoln. NU looks to hand Iowa its first loss of the season and earn bowl eligibility.

Huskers Look for Third Straight Win

The Nebraska basketball team wraps up the Lincoln portion of the Barclays Center Classic Tuesday night, as the Huskers (3-1) host Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-3) at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised online on BTN Plus and carried on the IMG Husker Sports Radio Network. Brock Osweiler gets another start for Broncos

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Broncos coach Gary Kubiak is sticking with quarterback Brock Osweiler for Denver’s showdown with the New England Patriots next weekend while Peyton Manning continues rehabbing from a spate of injuries.

Huskers’ Riley: Rape investigation continues, no suspensions

lincoln-policeLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska coach Mike Riley says preparation for Friday’s game against third-ranked Iowa is “business as usual” while police and the university investigate a report of a sexual assault at a house shared by players.

Riley said Monday that quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr., receiver Jordan Westerkamp and tight end Trey Foster would practice as usual this week. Huskers Host No. 3 Ranked Hawkeyes

Nebraska completes the 2015 regular season with its traditional Black Friday game with Iowa. The border rivals will square off in the HyVee Heroes Game with the contest televised nationally on ABC. Kickoff at Memorial Stadium is set for 2:30 p.m. CT.

Nebraska enters the game with a 5-6 record and a 3-4 mark in Big Ten play, following a 31-14 victory at Rutgers on Nov. 14. NU comes into the matchup following a weekend off after playing 11 straight weeks to open the season. A win over Iowa would even the Huskers’ record at 6-6 and secure a bowl bid for Nebraska. Lincoln – Nebraska freshman Jessica Shepard continued her early season hardware haul on Monday when she was named College Sports Madness Big Ten Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while adding her second straight Big Ten Conference Freshman-of-the-Week award.
