Volquez sharp as Royals beat Blue Jays 5-0 in ALCS opener
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Edinson Volquez gave the Blue Jays another reason to rue him Friday night.
The Royals right-hander combined with three relievers on a three-hitter, Salvador Perez hit a soaring home run off Toronto starter Marco Estrada, and Kansas City rolled to a 5-0 victory in Game 1 of their American League Championship Series. AUDIO: Lady Bulldogs ousted on day two of the state tournament, end season 19-20
The North Platte Lady Bulldogs softball team had their season come to an end on day two of the 2015 Class B State Tournament. North Platte was defeated in the quarterfinals, 13-2 in four innings by Elkhorn South and then in an elimination game fell to Hastings, 8-0 in five innings.

North Platte ends the season 19-20 and will potentially return all but four players for the 2016 season. The four seniors that the Lady Bulldogs will miss are third basemen Jaime Titus, left fielder Sydney McGahan, center fielder Bailey Hiser and utility Erin Weaver.
It was the Lady Bulldogs 10th trip all-time to the state tournament and they earned North Platte’s first win at the state tournament since 1999 as well as the first opening round victory at the state tournament in school history.

Huskers Prepare to Take On Minnesota

Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska football team practiced for just under 90 minutes without pads in the Hawks Championship Center on Thursday in preparation for Saturday’s game against Minnesota.
Head Coach Mike Riley had the following to say regarding injuries, “In the secondary, we were hopeful that Daniel Davie might be back, but it doesn’t look like it. At linebacker, Josh Banderas has made it back through the week and it looks like he will be ready to play. NPCC Volleyball Upsets No. 9 Central
The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team defeated the Central Community College Lady Raiders in four tough sets 22-25,26-24,31-29,25-23.

Huskers Anxious to Open 2015-16 Season

Some of the busiest people in Pinnacle Bank Arena during the 2015-16 season will be the program sellers. With just five returning letterwinners back, the Huskers will have a new look to the lineup for the coming season.
For Nebraska Coach Tim Miles, the 2015-16 season began in August, as the Huskers spent nine days in Spain. The trip not only gave Miles and his coaching staff 10 extra practices to prepare for the season, but the games also provided valuable learning experience for a team which has two seniors and two juniors in its rotation. Offense Gets Ready for Minnesota

Lincoln, Neb. – The Huskers practiced for just under two hours in half pads Tuesday afternoon. The offense practiced inside Memorial Stadium and the defense practiced on the Ed and Joyanne Gass practice field in preparation for the Minnesota game this Saturday. Maryland’s Trimble selected Big Ten Preseason Player of Year
ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) — Maryland’s Melo Trimble is the Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year.
