POSTGAME AUDIO: 7-seed Lady Bulldogs advance in State Tournament with 5-3 upset of 2-seed Beatrice

The 7th seed North Platte Lady Bulldogs softball team advanced to the championship quarterfinals of the Class B State Softball tournament with a 5-3 win over 2-seed Beatrice in the opening round of the tournament.

North Platte used the long ball with home runs from Kylie Engleman, Hallei Morales and Sydney McGahan, as well as seven innings of solid work in the circle from Taylar Coleman to get the victory.

The win is the first since 1999 at the state tournament for North Platte (had lost 11 straight games) and the first ever opening round victory (previously were 0-9 in first round games).

(7) North Platte will face (3) Elkhorn South at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15 in the championship quarterfinals on ESPN Radio 1410 and online at northplattepost.com. Elkhorn South defeated (6) Gretna 9-3 in their opening round game.

NPCC Lady Knight Volleyball to Travel to Northeast

NPCC Knights LogoThe North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team look to improve on their 12-17 record as they travel to Norfolk to face the Northeast Community College Lady Hawks on Tuesday.

The Lady Knights defeated the Lady Hawks in North Platte on October 1 in five sets.

Huskers Concentrate on Minnesota

Lincoln, Neb. — The Nebraska football team practiced for just over 90 minutes on Monday afternoon in sweats inside the Hawks Center in preparation for its upcoming game against the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Saturday.

Royals rally on Correa’s error, beat Astros 9-6 to even ALDS

kc-royalsHOUSTON (AP) — Astros shortstop Carlos Correa couldn’t handle a deflected grounder that might have been a double-play ball, helping the Kansas City Royals rally for five runs in the eighth inning to beat Houston 9-6 Monday and force their playoff series to a decisive Game 5.

With all four of Nebraska’s losses having come on the opponent’s final offensive play, each in the last few seconds or overtime, the Cornhuskers’ first-year coach was asked Monday what he would like to see change the second half of the season.
