The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team had their five game winning streak broken on Tuesday night. They were defeated by the Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen in four sets; 25-22, 21-25, 28-26, 25-19.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) — Former NFL running back Lawrence Phillips has been charged with murder in the death of his cellmate at a Central California prison.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The public address announcer for football games at Memorial Stadium has lost his job one day after Nebraska announced his hiring.
Former Omaha sportscaster Jon Schuetz said Tuesday that a university official told him he was being let go because of a months-old Facebook post by Schuetz commenting on the firing of football coach Bo Pelini. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Royals All-Star pitcher Kelvin Herrera and right fielder Alex Rios have been diagnosed with chickenpox, raising concerns that others on the AL Central-leading team may have been exposed.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Justin Verlander threw his fifth consecutive quality start, and Ian Kinsler homered and drove in three runs as the Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 6-5 Tuesday night.

Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska football team continued its week of preparation on Tuesday afternoon, as the Husker offense practiced inside Memorial Stadium while the defense practiced outside on the Ed and Joyanne Gass practice fields for two hours.

DENVER (AP) — Ben Paulsen hit a two-out, two-run single and the Colorado Rockies rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 on Monday night.

ATLANTA (AP) — The AL Central-leading Kansas City Royals have reached a deal to get outfielder Jonny Gomes from the Atlanta Braves.
Terms of the deal weren’t immediately disclosed.

Lincoln — For the Nebraska football defense, Monday’s practice marked an exciting and long-awaited day. Among their red and black practice jerseys, there were speckles of black throughout, as a select few players received Blackshirts today.
Byerson Cockrell, Josh Banderas, Greg McMullen, Kevin Williams, Jack Gangwish, Vincent Valentine, Dedrick Young, Maliek Collins, Joshua Kalu, Daniel Davie and Nate Gerry received the coveted jersey before the start of Monday’s practice.
