Kemp hits for cycle and Padres beat Rockies 9-5

colorado-rockiesDENVER (AP) — Matt Kemp hit a triple in the ninth for the first cycle in San Diego Padres history and they went on to win 9-5 over the Colorado Rockies on Friday night.

Preparing for Spain

The Nebraska basketball team left Lincoln Friday morning to begin their nine-day trip to Spain. After a mid-afternoon flight from Omaha to Atlanta, the Huskers will have approximately a three-hour layover in Atlanta before departing for Madrid this evening. The Huskers will fly overnight and arrive Saturday morning (approx. 3 a.m. Lincoln time) and have a short workout to help adjust to the seven-hour time difference. When the Knights take the floor it will be under the direction of first year head coach Alexa Hopping, who stopped by The Blitz on ESPN Radio 1410 to preview the upcoming season. Coach Hopping spent the past two seasons an assistant for the Lady Knights under Hall of Fame Coach Sally Thalken, Hopping also played for Coach Thalken at NPCC. Former Huskers Make NFL Preseason Debuts

With six NFL preseason games on Thursday night, a pair of former Huskers made their NFL debuts. Ameer Abdullah has received high praise for his work to this point in Detroit Lions training camp and he backed up that praise with a solid performance in his preseason debut. Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska football team wrapped up another 2015 Fall Camp practice Thursday night as the Huskers practiced outside on the Ed and Joyanne Gass practice fields for about two and a half hours. Royals OF Alex Gordon hoping to begin rehab assignment soon

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — All-Star outfielder Alex Gordon hopes to begin a rehab assignment in the next couple weeks and potentially rejoin the Kansas City Royals for their push toward an AL Central title.

Granderson, Johnson power Mets past Rockies 12-3 for sweep

colorado-rockiesNEW YORK (AP) — Curtis Granderson and Kelly Johnson each homered and drove in three runs, powering the New York Mets to a 12-3 rout of the Colorado Rockies that completed a four-game sweep Thursday.
