NPCC Knights basketball preps for Region IX weekend road trip

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Knights basketball team will travel this weekend to play a couple of key Region IX South Sub-Region games against Trinidad State Junior College and Laramie County Community College.

The Knights are currently in fourth place in the South Sub-Region with a 4-3 record. Western Nebraska Community College currently leads with a 7-1 sub-region record, followed by Otero Junior College at 6-2.

The Knights Friday night opponent is the Trinidad State Junior College Trojans, who have a 15-5 overall record and third in the South Sub-Region at 5-3.

The Trojans have three players averaging in double figures led by freshman Trevell Cunningham at 13 points per game. Sophomores Tykeem Anderson and Job Alexander are the other two at 12.4 ppg and 11 ppg respectively. Jesus Martinez leads the Trojans in rebounding at 5.1 rebounds per game.

The Knights defeated the Trojans on December 2, 72-67.

On Saturday, the Knights travel to Cheyenne, Wyo., to play the Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles, who defeated the Knights in North Platte on December 1, 74-58, are 12-11 on the season and 5-4 in the South Sub-Region, which is currently fifth place.

The Golden Eagles have four players averaging in double figures led by the top two scorers in Region IX South Sub-Region in Landon Taiaferro at 22.7 ppg and Elijah Oliver at 20 ppg. Da’hon Wyche is averaging 21.6 ppg but has only played in seven games and does not qualify for the Region IX leaders. The fourth Golden Eagle to average in double figures is Zaire Mateen at 18.2 ppg. Solomon Iluyomade leads the Golden Eagles in rebounding at 7.3 rpg.

The Knights are 8-7 on the season overall. Godfrey Rolle leads the Knights in scoring at 16.9 ppg, followed by Trajan Harris at 13.6 ppg. Buom Dubuol leads the Knights in rebounding at 5.7 rpg.

Tip-off against Trinidad will be at 8 pm and against Laramie County will be at 5 pm. Both times are CST.

Big second half leads to Northeast comeback win over North Platte Lady Knights

Norfolk – A strong second half performance propelled the Northeast Community College Lady Hawks to an 82-65 win over the North Platte Community College Lady Knights on Wednesday evening.

The Lady Hawks started the game outscoring the Lady Knights 9-2. The Lady Knights went on a 7-1 run to cut the Lady Hawks lead to one at 10-9. The two teams remained even for the remainder of the first quarter with the Lady Hawks leading 15-13 at the end of the quarter.

Beginning the second quarter, the Lady Knights Jamesia Holliman buried a three-pointer to give the Lady Knights a 16-15 lead. They continued their run by outscoring the Lady Hawks 17-9 to take a 33-24 lead.

The Lady Hawks finished off the half by outscoring the Lady Knights 12-5 to cut the Lady Knights lead at halftime 38-36.

In the third quarter the Lady Hawks caught fire, shooting 17 of 34 from the field in the second half and outscored the Lady Knights in the third quarter 23-8 to open up the game at 59-46.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Hawks kept the pressure up and outscored the Lady Knights 23-19 to seal the win.

The Lady Knights, now 1-13 on the season, had two players in double figures led by Nahatabaa Nacona with 19 points. Naria Hall ended up with 16 points. Peighton Porter led the Lady Knights with nine rebounds. Nacona also had three assists to lead the Lady Knights.

The Lady Hawks are now 17-2 on the season. They were led in scoring by Irene Sanz, who scored a game high 22 points. Mykala Baylor finished with 18 points and Kori Fischer had 11 points. Judit Valls had six rebounds to lead the Lady Hawks.

The Lady Knights will take to the road this weekend and play Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne on Saturday, Jan 27. Tip-off is at 3 pm.

NPCC Lady Knights basketball game at Northeast postponed to Wednesday

North Platte – The basketball game between the North Platte Community College Lady Knights and the Northeast Community College Lady Hawks scheduled for tonight, Jan 23, in Norfolk has been postponed until tomorrow, Jan 24, due to the weather. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 pm.

The Lady Hawks defeated the Lady Knights on November 17 in North Platte, 75-52.

The Lady Knights are 1-12 on the season. Sophomore Allison Tichy leads the Lady Knights in scoring at 14.5 points per game. Tichy is coming off a 27 point performance against Eastern Wyoming College on Saturday. Naria Hall is next in scoring with a 9.9 ppg average. Peighton Porter is third on the Lady Knights at 8.9 ppg. Porter leads the Lady Knights in rebounding at 9.5 rebounds per game.

The Lady Hawks are 16-2 on the season. Two Lady Hawks average in double figures in scoring led by Sierra Bell at 11 ppg. Mykala Baylor is right behind at 10.9 ppg. Baylor averages 8.2 rpg to lead the Lady Hawks.

Knights respond with 88-66 win over Eastern Wyoming

Torrington, Wyo. – The North Platte Community College Knights basketball team got back into the win column by defeating the Eastern Wyoming College Lancers, 88-66, on Saturday afternoon.

A day after only making one three-pointer in a loss to Western Nebraska, the Knights connected on a season high 11 three-pointers out of 17 attempts. The Knights shot 53.3 percent from the field.

The Knights held a 43-36 lead at halftime.

The Knights are now 8-7 overall and 4-3 in Region IX South Sub-Region play. Godfrey Rolle led the Knights with 22 points, followed close behind by Trajan Harris with 21 points. Atem Ajeng added 15 points and Jakub Karwowski added 11 points. Buom Dubuol led the Knights in rebounding with seven rebounds.

The Lancers are 2-17 on the season and 0-8 in the South Sub-Region. Walker Korrell had 21 points to lead the Lancers. Alek Cosic was next with 19 points. Nick Holmes finished with 12 points and Jordan Minch added 10 points. Cosic had seven rebounds.

The Knights will next be in action on Friday, Jan 26 when they travel to play Trilnidad State Junior College. Tip-off is set for 8 pm.

Lady Knights fall at Eastern Wyoming despite 27 from Allison Tichy

Torrington, Wyo. – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights were defeated by Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers, 83-59 on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Lancers led at the end of the first quarter 22-17 and outscored the Lady Knights 20-16 to take a 42-33 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, the Lady Knights was held to seven points in the quarter, and trailed 65-40 at the end of the third quarter.

The Lady Knights did outscore the Lady Lancers 19-18 in the final quarter.

The Lady Knights are 1-12 on the season. Alllison Tichy led all scorers with 27 points. Donaija Burist had nine rebounds to lead the Lady Knights.

The Lady Lancers, now 11-8 on the season, had three players in double figures led by Lauren O’Connell with 21 points. Pamela Bethel finished with 14 points and Abril Rexach Roure had 12 points. Bethel also had 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Lancers.

The Lady Knights are next in action when they travel to Norfolk on Tuesday, Jan 23 to play Northeast Community College. Tip-off is set for 5:00 pm.

Twenty-two WNCC three-pointers sink the Knights in Scottsbluff

Scottsbluff – The Western Nebraska Community College Cougars defeated the North Platte Community College Knights basketball team on Friday at the Cougar Palace, 110-55.

The Cougars jumped out to a 13-7 lead, but the Knights came back to tie it at 19. The Cougars went on a 19-0 run and led at halftime 50-24.

In the second half, it was all Cougars. The Cougars shot 71 percent from the field, including 13 of 20 from behind the three-point line.

In the game, the Cougars made 22 three-pointers, outscoring the Knights 66-3 from behind the arc.

The Cougars are 16-4 on the season and 6-1 in Region IX South Sub-Region play. The Cougars had five players score in double figures led by Vinnie Shahid with 29 points. Jervay Green finished with 22 points. Trent Harris had 20 points, Marlon Sierra had 14 points and Austin Hoffman had 10 points. Sierra led the Cougars with nine rebounds and Shahid had seven assists.

-The Knights are now 7-7 overall and 3-3 in the South Sub-Region. Trajan Harris was the lone Knight to score in double figures with 10 points. Nelo Nducuia led the Knights with six rebounds and five assists.
