HIGHLIGHTS: Knights win third straight with 78-73 victory over Central

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Knights basketball team defeated the Central Community College Raiders 78-73 in Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the McDonald – Belton Gymnasium.

The Raiders started the game going on a 9-3 run to take the early lead. The Knights caught fire and went on their biggest run of the first half of 16-2 to take a 19-11 lead.

The Knights continued to build their lead and led by as much as 14 in the first half at 43-29 and took a 43-31 lead going into halftime.

The Knights padded their lead to 15 at 48-33 when the Raiders started their comeback. The Raiders tied the score at 52 on a free throw by Malik Mooving. The Knights regained the lead and led by as much as eight throughout the remainder of the game.

The Knights are 7-6 on the season and 2-0 in NCCAC play. Ajang led the Knights in scoring with 17 points. Three other Knights scored in double figures. Godfrey Rolle finished with 15 points, Trajan Harris added 14 points, and Aaron Ridley added 12 points. Buom Dubuol led the Knights with six rebounds. Rolle also dished out six assists for the Knights.

The Raiders are 7-10 and 0-2 in NCCAC play. Latrell Talley led all scorers with 18 points. Jaxon Simons added 17 points and Zack Rice-Gordon added 13 points. Talley also had 11 rebounds to record the double-double.

The Knights are in action next when they take to the road and play Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff on Friday, Jan 19. Tip-off is at 8 pm CST.

HIGHLIGHTS: Lady Knights drought hits eight straight with loss to Central

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team were defeated by Region IX Division II opponent, the Central Community College Lady Raiders Saturday afternoon 71-67 at the McDonald – Belton Gymnasium.

The Lady Raiders struck first and jumped out to a 9-4 lead. The Lady Knights battled back and tied the score at 16 at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Knights started the second quarter on a 12-4 run to take their largest lead in the first half at 28-20. The Lady Raiders went on their own run of 8-4 to cut the Lady Knights lead at halftime to 32-28.

Janelle Acevedo and Hannah Johnson opened up the third quarter with a pair of three-pointers to stretch out the Lady Knights lead to 38-28. The Lady Raiders used their inside game and free throw shooting to pull within three at 46-43. Paxton Thorne hit a three-pointer to tie the score at 46. Payton Blanke made a free throw to give the lead to the Lady Raiders at 47-46. After a basket by each team the Lady Knights Nahtabaa Nacona made a three-pointer at the buzzer to tie the score at 51 going into the final quarter.

The Lady Raiders opened up the fourth quarter with a 6-0 run to lead 57-51. The Lady Knights was able to regain the lead at 60-59 on a basket by Donaija Buirst. The Lady Raiders took the lead for good on the next possession on a basket by Thorne.

The Lady Knights are now 1-11 on the season and 0-2 in Region IX Division II play. Sophomore Allison Tichy led the Lady Knights in scoring with 21 points. Naria Hall also scored in double figures with 10 points. Lexa Lealiiee and Peighton Porter each had seven rebounds to lead the Lady Knights.

The Lady Raiders are now 4-13 on the season and 1-0 in Region IX Division II play. Maddy Wolfe led all scorers with 29 points. Blanke finished with 21 points and Thorne had 10 points. Blanke and Wolfe each had double-doubles, as they finished with 14 and 12 rebounds respectively.

The Lady Knights will take to the road and play Eastern Wyoming College on Saturday, January 20. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 pm CST.

HIGHLIGHTS: Rolle’s buzzer beater lifts Knights to 74-72 win over Northeastern

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Knights defeated the Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen 74-72 on Wednesday evening at the McDonald – Belton Gymnasium.

Sophomore guard Godfrey Rolle hit a put back with 0.1 seconds left in the ball game.

The Knights led the Plainsmen 72-67 in the final seconds. The Plainsmen Keishon Parker made a layup with 12 seconds to go. On the inbound Jazz Parker intercepted the pass and passed the ball to Keishon Parker who tied the game up with a three-pointer at 72. Trajan Harris drove the length of the court and put up a shot that fell short. The ball came down into the hands of Rolle, who put up the game winner in the middle of the lane.

The Knights started out slow, allowing the Plainsmen to jump out to a 9-2 lead. The Knights rallied back and went on a 13-5 run to take their first lead at 15-14.

There were six lead changes in the first half. The Knights held a 33-32 lead at halftime.

The Plainsmen took the lead for their final time at 41-39. The Knights took back the lead at 42-41 after a couple of free throws by Harris.

The Knights held the lead for the remainder of the half until the tie at the end of the game.

The Knights even up their record at 6-6 on the season and are 3-2 in the Region IX South Sub-Region. Aaron Ridley led all scorers with 27 points. Atem Ajeng and Buom Duboul each added 10 points for the Knights. Rolle and Duboul each had 10 rebounds.

The Plainsmen are 8-9 on the season and 2-5 in the South Sub-Region. Keishon Parker led four Plainsmen in scoring with 16 points. Ron Hall finished with 14 points; Ibrahim Dodo and Marcus Burwell each had 13 points. Mohammed Elradi led the Plainswomen with seven rebounds.

The Knights will host Division II and Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference opponent Central Community College at 4 pm.

HIGHLIGHTS: Northeastern women run away from Lady Knights in second half

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team were defeated by the Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen on Wednesday at the McDonald – Belton Gymnasium 79-46.

The Plainswomen jumped out to a 12-7 lead, but the Lady Knights rallied back by going on a 6-2 run to pull within one at 14-13. The Plainswomen led at the end of the first quarter 17-13.

The Plainswomen never trailed in the game, holding a 33-24 lead at the half and 55-33 at the end of the third quarter.

The Lady Knights are 1-10 on the season. Peighton Porter had 12 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Lady Knights. Naria Hall added 11 points.

The Plainswomen are 7-8 on the season. Two of the Plainswomen had a double-double. Katie Diakhaby had 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Kieral McElroy had 13 points and 12 rebounds. Darci Finnegan ended up with 14 points.

The Lady Knights will host Region IX Division II opponent, the Central Community College Lady Raiders on Saturday, January 13 at 2 PM.

North Platte CC Knights welcome Northeastern to town for big Region IX game

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Knights and Lady Knights will host Northeastern Junior College at the McDonald – Belton Gymnasium on Wednesday, Jan 10.

The women’s game does not count as a regional game.

The Plainswomen of Northeastern are 6-8 on the season. The Plainswomen are led in scoring by Katie Diakhaby at 16.8 points per game. Diakhaby is the only Plainswoman in double figures. Tashika Burrell is next in scoring at 9.3 ppg. Diakhaby averages a double-double, leading the Plainswomen at 10.8 rebounds per game.

The Lady Knights are 1-9 on the season. Allison Tichy leads the Lady Knights in scoring at 13.6 ppg. Naria Hall is second on the Lady Knights in scoring at 10.3 ppg. Peighton Porter leads the Lady Knights in rebounding at 9.4 rpg.

The men’s game is a Region IX South Sub-Region contest.

The Plainsmen are 8-8 overall and 2-4 in the South Sub-Region. Marcus Burwell leads the Plainsmen in scoring at 19.7 ppg, followed by Keishon Parker at 12.2 ppg. Parker is coming off of back to back 19 points performances against Lamar and Otero. Ron Hall leads the Plainsmen in rebounding at five rebounds per game.

The Knights are 5-6 on the season and 2-2 in South Sub-Region play. Sophomore Godfrey Rolle leads the Knights in scoring at 18.6 ppg. Trajan Harris is the only other Knight in double figures at 13 ppg. Buom Dobuol leads the Knights in rebounding at 5.7 rpg.

The women’s game will tip-off at 5:30 pm. The men’s game will follow, approximately at 7:30 PM CST.

HIGHLIGHTS: Knights pull away in second half for 81-62 win over Southeast

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Knights basketball team opened up the second semester of play, defeating the Southeast Community College Storm, 81-62, on Saturday afternoon at the McDonald – Belton Gymnasium in a Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference game.

The Storm opened up the game with a 5-0 lead, but the Knights went on an 11-0 run to take an 11-5 lead. The Storm rallied back to take a 20-17 lead, but was short lived after Godfrey Rolle hit a field goal and a three-pointer to give the Knights the lead for good. The Knights led by as much as 13 points in the first half at 43-30. The Knights led at halftime by 10 at 43-33.

In the second half, the Storm scored first to cut the Knights lead to eight, but after a field goal by Brandon Headroe, the Knights maintained a double digit lead throughout the remainder of the game.

The Knights are now 5-6 on the season and 1-0 in NCCAC play. Three Knights finished in double figures, led by Trajan Harris, who finished with 19 points. Rolle finished with 18 points, and Buom Dobuol added 12 points. Dobuol also grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Knights and had four blocked shots.

The Storm are 1-15 overall and 0-1 in NCCAC play. Daniel Quesenberry led the Storm with 18 points and Kuoth Path came off the bench to score 11 points. Path had seven rebounds and two blocked shots to lead the Storm.

The Knights will face Region IX South Sub-Region opponent Northeastern Junior College on Wednesday, January 10 at the McDonald – Belton Gymnasium at 7:30 PM.

HIGHLIGHTS: Lady Knights drop pivotal Region IX-II opener at home against Southeast

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knight basketball team were defeated in their matchup in Region IX Division II action, falling to the Southeast Community College Lady Storm, 78-65, Saturday afternoon at the McDonald – Belton Gymnasium.

The Lady Knights jumped out to a 16-3 lead, behind a couple of three-pointers and a field goal by sophomore Allison Tichy. The Lady Storm answered back with a pair of three-pointers, while holding the Lady Knights to a single field goal the remainder of the first quarter to give the Lady Knights an 18-9 lead after one period of play.

In the beginning of the second quarter, the Lady Knights added to their lead by going on a 6-0 run to lead 24-9 lead. With the score being 26-16 in favor of the Lady Knights, the Lady Storm went on a 14-1 run to take a 30-27 lead. Tichy added a three-pointer to tie the game at 30, but the Lady Storm went into halftime with a 34-32 lead.

In the third quarter, the Lady Storm started the quarter on a 12-4 run to take a 46-36 lead. The Lady Knights rallied back with a run of 14-3 to take a 50-49 lead at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, with the score tied at 52, the Lady Storm took the lead for good by going on a 17-3 run to take their biggest lead of 14 points at 69-55.

The Lady Knights, now 1-9 on the season and 0-1 in Region IX Division II play, were led in scoring by Tichy, who finished with 20 points in the game. Hannah Johnson and Peighton Porter each finished with 10 points. Porter had a double-double with 11 rebounds.

The Lady Storm, are 1-0 in Region IX Division II play, and 5-9 overall. They were led in scoring by Morgan Frauendorfer, who had 20 points. DeAsia Walker added 16 points and Sebir Gadusk finished with 14 points. Walker had a double-double by also grabbing 11 rebounds.

The Lady Knights are in action next when they host Region IX Division I Northeastern Junior College on Wednesday, January 10 at 5:30 PM at the McDonald – Belton Gymnasium.

Three NPCC volleyball players named to All-Nebraska team

North Platte – North Platte Community College Lady Knight volleyball players continue to collect accolades following the 2017 season.

The Omaha World – Herald recently, named Luisa Hernandez to the All-Nebraska Two-Year College volleyball team. Aly Camacho and Carlie Wytulka were named honorable mention to the All-Nebraska team.

Hernandez, a freshman outside hitter from Yuma, Colo., led the Lady Knights in kills with 470 kills and defensive digs with 557 digs. Hernandez is fifth on the Lady Knights all-time list for kills in a season and 13th on the kills per set in a season at 3.1 kills per set. She was second on the team in service aces and had 49 total blocks.

Camacho, a sophomore middle blocker from Scottsbluff was second on the Lady Knights with 151 total blocks. Camacho had 193 kills and 52 defensive digs. She is 19th on the Lady Knights all-time list for total blocks in a season and eighth in career blocks with 251 total blocks.

Wytulka, a freshman setter from Necle, Colo., led the Lady Knights in set assists with 911 assists. She is 17th on the Lady Knights all-time list for assists Wytulka also had 77 kills, 21 service aces, 361 defensive digs and 59 total blocks.

Players selected to the team are from NPCC, Western Nebraska Community College, McCook Community College, Southeast Community College, Central Community College and Northeast Community College.
