Knights improve to 2-1 in Region with 68-60 win at Lamar

Lamar, Colo. – The North Platte Community College Knights basketball team improved to 4-5 on the season and 2-1 in Region IX South Sub-Region play with a win over the Lamar Community College Runnin’ Lopes 68-60 on Saturday night.

The Knights held a 33-28 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Knights outscored the Runnin’ Lopes 35-32.

Trajan Harris led the Knights in scoring by with 20 points. Jakub Karwowski was right behind with 19 points. Karwowski had nine rebounds to lead the Knights. Godfrey Rolle was the final Knight to score in double figures with 15 points.

The Runnin’ Lopes drop to 10-5 on the season and 1-1 in Region IX South Sub-Region play.
Rich Caldwell and Logan Longo each had 15 points for the Runnin’ Lopes. Tugay Baylan added 10 points. Sam Boone led the Runnin’ Lopes with 13 rebounds.

The Knights travel to La Junta, Colo., to play Otero Junior College on Sunday afternoon at 3 pm.

Lady Knights drop road game at Lamar

Lamar, Colo. – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball fell to the Lamar Community College Lady Lopes 88-69 on Saturday night.

The Lady Knights trailed at the end of the first quarter 18-17

In the second quarter, the Lady Lopes outscored the Lady Knights 26-14 to take a 44-31 halftime lead. In the first half the Lady Knights were 10 of 33 from the field including three 3-pointers..

In the third quarter, the Lady Knights outscored the Lady Lopes in a tight quarter 27-26 to give the Lady Lopes a 70-58 lead.

The Lady Knights were able to pull within six after a 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter to make the score 70-64.
The Lady Lopes outscored the Lady Knights in the remainder of the fourth, 18-5, to seal the win

The Lady Knights are now 1-7 on the year. Peighton Porter had 22 points and 16 rebounds t lead the Lady Knights. Jamesia Holliman was the only other Lady Knight in double figures with 13 points

The Lady Lopes are 8-6 on the season. They had four players finishing in double figures. Led by Kelyn Moses, who had a game high 24 points. Next in scoring, was Iva Belosevic with 19 points. Belosevic had a double -double with 14 rebounds. Hanna Diaz was third with 15 points and Kara Budd added 12 points.

The Lady Knights will play Otero Junior College at 1 pm tomorrow to close out their schedule for the first semester.

NPCC volleyball adds two more to 2018 class

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team has announced the signing of two players for the 2018 season, Bailey Chintala, from Fleming, Colo., and Hannah Biesecker from Kimball, Neb.

Chintala, a 5’ 4 outside hitter played for Fleming High School. Bailey is the sister of former Lady Knight and All-Region IX player Megan Chintala.

Bailey played varsity for four seasons. In her career, she had 719 kills and 1598 defensive digs and a .184 kill efficiency.

Lady Knights Head Coach Alexa McCall said, “We are super excited to get Bailey! She is a great player with a high volleyball IQ and will be an impact player for us. She comes from a great family and is a hard worker and we are glad that she will be a Lady Knight.”

Chintala is the daughter of Dana and Lisa Chintala.

Biesecker, a 5’ 10 middle and outside hitter, played three seasons for the Kimball High School Longhorns. In her career, Hannah played in 234 sets and had 509 kills, 123 defensive digs, 51 blocks, and 90 aces.

“Hannah will add some depth for us as she is a versatile player that can play some different positions,” McCall said. “She adds some height and is a raw athlete. It will be fun to see her grow as an athlete and volleyball player here at NPCC.”

Biesecker is the daughter of Drew and Sheryl Biesecker.

Chintala and Biesecker Sydney Mullin from Maxwell, Gabby Menghini from North Platte, and Haiden Kreber from Sutherland in the 2018 recruiting class for the Lady Knights.

NPCC softball signs five to 2018 class

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Knights Softball team signed five players to a national letter of intent recently for the 2018-19 season.

They are Megan Hernandez-Belew from Broomfield, Colo., Natalee Hall from Loveland, Colo., Kylea Wall from Loveland, Colo, Sienna Pfaff from Salem, Utah, and Maddie Liddell from Glenwood, Iowa.

Hernandez-Belew, an outfielder went to Legacy High School. Hernandez-Belew played for American Freedom

Hall, a pitcher, attends school at Loveland, High School.

Wall, a catcher attends Thompson Valley High School.

Hall, and Wall both play for the Rocky Mountain Rush club team.

Sienna Pfaff, an outfielder, attends Salem Hills High School and plays for the Nemesis club team.

Liddell, a utility player, attends Glenwood High School and plays for the Midwest Slammers club team.
