NPCC volleyball falls in four at Northeast CC

Norfolk – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team were defeated in a tough hard fought game to the Northeast Community College Lady Hawks in four sets 26-24, 23-25, 25-23, and 25-22.

“I’m disappointed in our ability to finish. We were in control in both sets one and four and let them come back” Lady Knight Head Coach Alexa McCall said. “We have to be able to get out of serve receive and defend our serve better.”

Luisa Hernadez led the Lady Knights in kills with 15 and defensive digs with 23. Amanda Kroeger added eight kills. Antonya Schaffert had 21 defensive digs and Carlie Wytulka added 19 defensive digs and 17 set assists. Taylin McNair led the Lady Knights with 21 set assists.

The Lady Knights had a total of 24 blocks, led by Shaylee Johnson with eight and Wytulka with seven.

The Lady Knights are back at it tomorrow night when they travel to Columbus to play the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II 10th ranked Central Community College at 6 pm.

Knights volleyball finishes 2-2 at Ramada Inn Invitational

Columbus – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team went 2-2 at the Ramada Inn Invitational in Columbus.

In the first game on Friday, the Lady Knights defeated the Bismarck State College Mystics in three sets, 25-15, 25-23, and 25-21.

Luisa Hernandez had 10 kills to lead the Lady Knights. Hernandez and Shaylee Johnson each had two service aces. Johnson also had four total blocks. Carlie Wytulka had 29 set assists. Jordynn Simpson had 11 defensive digs to also lead the Lady Knights

Lady Knight Head Coach Alexa McCall said, “I was pleased with how we played in the first game. I thought we stayed aggressive and that helped us out.”

In the second game of the day, the Lady Knights were defeated by the Fort Scott Community College Lady Greyhounds in three sets, 19-25, 18-25, and 21-25.

Hernandez had 13 kills, followed by Amanda Kroeger and Aly Camacho with seven kills each. Carlie Wytulka had 13 defensive digs and 32 set assists to also lead the Lady Knights.

McCall said, “In the second game we played tough against a good team but just couldn’t keep serve long enough. We made adjustments and worked hard just came up short.”

 

In the first game on Saturday, the Lady Knights defeated the Williston State College Lady Tetons in three sets, 25-11, 25-18, and 25-7.

Luisa Hernandez had 11 kills, Antonya Schaffert had eight defensive digs and Carlie Wytulka had 21 set assists to lead the Lady Knights attack. Shaylee Johnson had three solo and six assisted blocks.

Lady Knight Head Coach Alexa McCall said, “We played well against Williston and really put some things together. I thought we served well and played aggressive.”

In the second game of the day and the final one for the Lady Knights, the Lady Knights were defeated by the Kansas City Kansas Community College Lady Blue Devils in straight sets, 17-25, 23-25, and 26-28.

Hernandez had 12 kills. Wytulka had 14 defensive digs and 32 set assists for the Lady Knights against the Blue Devils.

“Against Kansas City we were just not quick enough and didn’t get chances to go on any runs.” McCall said, “They are pretty athletic and we just played a little sloppy.”

The Lady Knights are now 13-18 and will travel to Norfolk on Tuesday, October 10 to play the Northeast Community College Lady Hawks. Game time is 7 pm CDT.

NPCC volleyball set for challenging weekend in Columbus

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team will travel to Columbus to take part in the Ramada Inn Classic at Central Community College on Friday, October 6 and Saturday October 7.

The Lady Knights will play the Bismarck State College Mystics to start their part of the tournament at 1 pm on Friday. The Mystics are 18-4 and received votes in the recent National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Volleyball poll. They are on a five – game winning streak.

Liza Doppler has 179 kills and Caitlyn Inman has 177 kills to lead the Mystics in kills Sam Anklam has 381 defensive digs. Jessie Oja has 367 set assists and Alyssa Beck has 345 set assists to lead Mystics.

At 5 pm on Friday, the Lady Knights will play the Fort Scott Community College Lady Greyhounds. The Lady Greyhounds, 16-7, also received votes in the recent NJCAA Division II poll.

Megan Turner leads the Lady Greyhounds with 279 kills, which is 16th in Division II volleyball. Katie Gorman has 611 defensive digs and Hanna White has 516 set assists for the Lady Greyhounds.

The Lady Knights will next play the Williston State College Tetons on Saturday at 9 am. The Lady Knights defeated the Tetons at the Pizza Hut Invite in Sterling, Colo. in four sets.

The Tetons are 10-10 on the season. Katie Nice has 194 kills to lead the Tetons. Brittany Hawman has 320 digs. Anna Zuniga leads the Tetons with 538 set assists.

The final game of the tournament for the Lady Knights will be at 1 pm on Saturday when they play the Kansas City Kansas Community College Lady Blue Devils.

The Blue Devils are 9-6 on the season but have won five in a row.

Katherine Heeter and Randi Johnson each have 131kills to lead the Blue Devils. Kelsey Rankin has 383 set assists and Kelli Sleefe has 235 defensive digs to lead the Blue Devils

The Lady Knights are 11-16 on the season.

Luisa Hernandez leads the Lady Knights with 290 kills, 12th in the nation, and 359 defensive digs. Carlie Wytulka has 565 set assists to lead the Lady Knights.

“I think we have some good match ups this weekend that will push us but also I think we should be able to come out on top.” Lady Knight Head Coach Alexa McCall said. “We need to put things together that we have worked on and control things we can control and I hope we are competitive.”

HIGHLIGHTS: Knights volleyball opens new month with sweep of rival McCook

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team completed the season sweep of the McCook Community College Lady Indians by sweeping the Lady Indians, 25-20, 25-17, and 25-16 on Tuesday night at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium on “Pink Out Night” and “Mentoring Night”.

“We needed a win for the team so I was glad to see us play well and put some things together,” Lady Knight Head Coach Alexa McCall said. “We are entering our last month and this is a good start. I thought we did a good job of getting them out of system and we played pretty scrappy defense.”

The win broke a six-game losing streak for the Lady Knights, who are now 11-16 on the season and3-1 in the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference.

The Lady Indians drop to 12-13 and 1-4 in the NCCAC.

The Lady Knights will be in action again on Friday and Saturday, when they travel to Columbus to participate in the Ramada Inn Classic. The Lady Knights will play Bismarck State College and Fort Scott Community College on Friday. They will conclude the tournament with games against Williston State College and Kansas City Kansas Community College.

NPCC Knights basketball team to host Haunted Hoops

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Knights basketball team will hold their annual Haunted Hoops clinic on October 29, 2017 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

The clinic is for boys and girls from grades 1-6.

Registration is $45 if registration is postmarked by October 20. A late registration fee of $5 will be added if postmarked after Oct 20.

The registration includes a Haunted Hoops T-Shirt. If the participant wears the T-Shirt to any Knights game, they will be admitted free.

The clinic will focus on academics, goals, and basketball fundamentals. The participant will have a pizza party with the NPCC Knights players and a picture.

Enrollment is limited, so get your registrations in early.
