NPCC Lady Knights volleyball goes 0-4 at Johnson County Invite

Overland Park, Kan – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights finished 0-4 at the Johnson County Community College Invitational over the weekend.

The tournament draws some of the top Division II teams in the country.

In the first game of the tournament on Friday for the Lady Knights, they faced the host Johnson County Community College Lady Cavaliers. The Lady Cavaliers, perennially contend for the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II crown. The Lady Cavaliers defeated the Lady Knights in three sets, 25-18, 25-22, and 25-23. Luisa Hernandez had nine kills and Amanda Kroeger added eight kills to lead the Knights. Taylin McNair had 15 set assists and Hernandez had 12 defensive digs against the Lady Cavaliers.

In the second game on Friday, the Lady Knights faced the number eight rated Cowley County Community College Lady Tigers and were defeated in straight sets 25-22, 25-22, and 25-18. Mikenna Curlee led the Lady Knights with seven kills. Carlie Wytulka added 10 set assists and Hernandez had 13 defensive digs.

The Lady Knights opened Saturday’s action of the tournament by playing the Des Moines Area Community College Lady bears and were defeated in five sets 19-25, 25-19, 14-25, 25-22, and 15-5.

Hernandez had 17 kills and 23 defensive digs for the Lady Knights, followed by Neci Sundquist with 11 kills. McNair had 25 set assists.

The 12th ranked Kirkwood Community College Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Knights in four sets 25-16, 19-25, 25-11, and 25-22 in the final game of the tournament for the Lady Knights.

Hernandez and Sundquist each had 14 kills for the Lady Knights. Wytulka had 19 set assists and McNair added 18 set assists. Antonya Schaffert had 28 defensive digs in the game.

Lady Knight Head Coach said, “We played some good competition this weekend and I think we did some good things. We just let teams go on bigger runs and couldn’t keep serve.”

The Lady Knights are now 10-16 on the season. They will return to their home court on Tuesday, October 3 to face McCook Community College in a Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference matchup. The game is designated as “Pink Out Night” and “Mentoring Night”. Game time is at 7:00 p.m. CDT

NPCC volleyball drops rubber match at Northeastern

Sterling, Colo. – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team travelled to play the Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen at the Bank of Colorado Events Center and fell to the Plainswomen in four sets 25-11, 16-25, 25-10, and 25-13.

The tone for the match was set early on. The Lady Knights took the lead 1-0, but the Plainswomen went on an 8-0 run to take the lead 8-1. The Plainswomen continued to dominate the set and led 23-6. The Lady Knights Shaylee Johnson served the next four points to make the score 23-10 in favor of the Plainswomen.

The second set was a little closer. The Plainswomen jumped out to a 5-1 lead, but the Lady Knights rallied to take a 17-11 lead and held on to take the second set.

In the third set, the Plainswomen started the set on an 11-0 run to take control of the set.

In the fourth set, the Plainswomen remained dominant by taking a 10-0 lead in the final set.

The Lady Knights are now 10-12 on the season. Luisa Hernandez had 12 kills for the Lady Knights. Antonya Schaffert finished with 13 defensive digs and Carlie Wytulka had 18 set assists.

The Lady Knights will travel to Overland Park, Kan., to participate in the Johnson Community College Invitational this Friday and Saturday.

NPCC Lady Knights volleyball team travels to Northeastern on Tuesday

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team will look to win the season series against the Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen on Tuesday, September 26, when they travel to Sterling, Colo.

The Lady Knights and the Plainswomen have split a pair of matches this season. The Plainswomen won at North Platte on August 30 in four sets. The Lady Knights defeated the Plainswomen in the Pizza Hut Invitational on September 15 in a hard fought five-set win. Northeastern holds a 41-69 lead in the all-time series record.

The Plainswomen are 10-5 on the season. Sara Antic leads the Plainswomen with 135 kills. Sofjia Pajevic has 388 set assists for the Plainswomen. Bailey Schumacher has 209 defensive digs.

The Lady Knights are 10-11 on the season.

Luisa Hernandez leads the Lady Knights in kills with 221 kills. That number is among the leaders in National Junior College Athletic Association Division II volleyball. Currently she is 16th in that category. Hernandez also leads the Lady Knights in defensive digs with 275, followed by Antonya Schaffert with 254 defensive digs.

Carlie Wytulka has 482 set assists, or 6.03 assists per set, followed by Taylin McNair with 224 set assists or 4.98 assist per set. Shaylee Johnson has 79 total blocks and Aly Camacho is right behind with 78 total blocks.

The game time for the match is at 7 pm CDT.

Knights volleyball drops tough Region IX-DII match to No. 3 Central

North Platte – The National Junior College Athletic Association Division II third rated Central Community College Lady Raiders came into the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium on Thursday night with a 18-2 record. What they found was a fired up North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team.

The s Raiders defeated the Lady Knights in four sets. 25-22, 20-25, 22-22, and 25-23.

“We played really hard against a good team tonight.” Lady Knight Head Coach Alexa McCall said. “The girls battled the whole game and it just came down to a couple little situations that we let out of our hands.”

“We passed pretty well and served well and when we were aggressive we had some good things happen.” McCall said.

The Lady Raiders, now 19-2 on the season, and 2-0 in Region IX Division II play. Maeghan Pieper with 13 kills. Paxton Thone had 38 set assists and Jessica Eurek had 21 defensive digs to lead the Lady Raiders.

The Lady Knights drop to 10-11on the season, and 1-1 in Region IX Division II play.

Luisa Hernandez had 14 kills, Antonya Schaffert had 17 defensive digs, Carllie Wytulka had 24 set assists to pace the Lady Knights. The Lady Knights had a 92.4 serving percentage with 11 service aces led by Taylin McNair with three.

The Lady Knights are next in action when they travel to Sterling, Colo., to play the Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen. The Lady Knights and the Plainswomen have split the two previous games this season. Game time is 7 PM CDT.
