Royals Add Nix to Active Roster and Drop Colon

kc-royalsKANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Infielder Jayson Nix has been added to the Kansas City Royals’ active roster for the World Series against San Francisco in place of rookie Christian Colon.

Colon sacrificed as a pinch hitter in the 10th inning of that game, then drove in the tying run with an infield single on a 12th-inning chopper as the Royals rallied to win 9-8. Concussion Lawsuit vs. NHL Filed in Federal Court

NHL-Logo-HockeyST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The consolidated class-action lawsuit by former NHL players against the league over concussion-related injuries has been filed in federal court.

Attorneys for the ex-players filed the complaint Monday in Minnesota. The case had been assigned to U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson. It’s a combination of several lawsuits previously filed.

Dan LaCouture, Michael Peluso, Gary Leeman, Bernie Nicholls, David Christian and Reed Larson are the former players serving as six class representatives. They are seeking a jury trial for unspecified financial damages and NHL-funded medical monitoring for neurological disorders.

They are alleging that the league had the knowledge and resources to better prevent head trauma, failed to properly warn players of the risks, and promoted violent play that led to their injuries.

Parents of Duct-Taped Boy Don’t Want Charges

gavel-morePITTSBURGH (AP) — A lawyer for the parents of an autistic high school soccer player in Pennsylvania who was duct-taped to a goal post in a prank this month says the parents don’t want charges filed against the two students involved.

Instead, attorney Phil DiLucente says, the parents want the two Highlands school students to apologize, do community service and get autism awareness training. He says a resolution is being worked out.

He and the parents of 16-year-old Austin Babinsack met with local officials Monday. The names of the other two students have not been released.

The teen was duct-taped Oct. 5 and freed about 20 minutes later. It happened during what students say is a tradition of toilet papering the houses of senior players during the week of the final home game.
